Karl is correct. Ukraine has already lost the way. All that remains is determining how much territory Russia wants to keep. There were articles a couple of weeks ago pointing out that members of Zelensky's cabinet were buying property in Sweden and Switzerland to evacuate to.
The West cannot supply the one critical component that Ukraine needs to win... trained military men. Ukraine was bound to lose as there was no way they could win a war of attrition. I agree with many here that this was just an opportunity to line our politicians and supporter's pockets.
What this war has done is expose Russia for the paper tiger that it really is. Yes, they have nukes and other powerful weapons (and thus never be engaged in serious war) but overall, their military is a lower echelon force lacking in command structure/leadership, overall equipment and tactics. I know that some here feel that our Military is woke and full of pussies, but we would clean Russia's clock in a conventional war.

I live in Silicon Valley, which of course is a very liberal area. I go out in my car to do an errand or two on most days. Of course I see many, many cars, and I pay attention. Since the Ukraine conflict began I have seen precisely one pro-Ukraine bumper sticker (and no pro-Russian ones). I have seen no flags or banners at all (of course I don't drive through all neighborhoods). The only pro-Ukrainian flag I have seen was one attached to a highway overpass; we drove under it on a trip north; it was about a hundred miles north of here. Despite the poll results that we are fed, I do not think that the media have convinced the American public that this is a war that they should support.
Haha - today is actually Womans Veterans Day! I didnt know such a thing actually existed until I saw some virtue signaler post this on Twitter.

The end result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was always going to be this. Ukraine never had a chance against Russia. They continuously poked the Bear in the eyeballs for years and laughed when the bear did not strike back, thinking the bear was weak.
Well? What do these so called "leaders" think now?
Funny how the US media never mentions the color revolution that the State Department ran in Ukraine, or how Kiev openly attacked the Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine. Never read that in the LA Times, NY Post, or any other newspaper. It's just another subject our "news" ran a giant gaslighting operation on.
Ask anyone screeching about Putin and Ukraine why they give even one single fuck about that place, seeing as how there are civil conflicts happening all over the world all the time. I was pressing a Karen about that two months ago and all she could do was use the comeback "YUO SOUND LIKE YOU SUPPORT PUTIN REEEEEEEE" Maybe, maybe not but at least Putin is a real Russian patriot who loves his country and can speak eloquently.
It's no wonder Western Media and Politicians do not understand the man... they simply have no concept of what it means not to be a lying swamp rat with high principles and a vision of the future that does not revolve around the Western system.

I agree with you--but all I see in the administration is ideologues who don't care about the consequences and think this is the time to usher in some nebulous better future where we drive Nissan Leafs powered by solar panels. Not possible? They stick their fingers in their ears and say, "La, la, la, I can't hear you..."
John Lott mentioned that he challenged Obama on this once, when Obama was still at U Chicago. BO was on the anti-fossil fuel kick even then. Lott said wind and solar wasn't scalable enough to replace them. Obama's response was, "You aren't listening. Wind and solar is the wave of the future."
Yes, it'll lead to massive unrest, but they probably haven't thought that through or think they'll get out of it ok.

We think speed is a virtue.
Maybe, and maybe not. But you can spend 1,000 $1,000 shells for the price of one $1m missile, and those 1,000 shells will inflict not just the casualties but also shake the troops on the other side psychologically in a way that the missile doesn't.

This thing is heading south and Biden and Company are doubling down on what doesn't work, what can't and won't work and choices/ decisions that will lead to the worst possible outcome.
What will stop them: midterm election losses, sky high inflation, economic collapse, losses in court and some such external events.
They can't be this stupid. At some point they would have to make a "good decision" in a sea of very bad decisions. I truly believe this is intentional. I will have food, water, firewood, electric and the basics of living in a sustainable place.
Alas ... Babylon.
Off topic ... I move June 16th (moving company) and I have reserved a 12 foot box truck for June 17th. Just in case. I am not sure if everything will fit on the truck for the Thursday movers. It will cost a small fortune in terms of moving expenses ... But it will be all good in the long term
I was not planning on moving 4000 pounds of solar equipment, but here we are. A number of items are simply not available - cannot buy. I have these items. Other items are on back order with supply chain issues. I am being given a wonderful gift. I know that. Still it is a great challenge to make this happen.
The funds should be in the escrow account at the title company anywhere between Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. I am beyond grateful to be getting out of the city (i.e., a large and growing suburb). This week will be a challenge, but after I am moved, I will have the time I need to get things organized.
My present location in a sprawling suburb will not be survivable or sustainable in the unfolding chaos. I will not be there when the shit hits the fan (and it will).

On Saturdays in March and April the I-205 bridge that connects Portland and Vancouver was full of idiots waving Ukrainian flags. I saw less of them in late May when we went into Portland. My wife and I laughed and joked about them just like we did with the BLM advocates in summer two years ago.
The Portland area is full of mushy-headed liberal types who seem to be into whatever the current thing happens to be.

"What this war has done is expose Russia for the paper tiger that it really is."
How has this been proven? I am not saying it is or isn't true, but how has this been demonstrated? Russia currently controls 20% of the Ukraine landmass, including the entire land bridge to Crimea. Russia controls all of the territory it had set out to annex.
Do you say this because Russia couldn't hold Kiev? Kiev was never the objective. By attacking Kiev quickly and then retreating slowly, Russia caused a certain amount of Ukraine forces to engage far away from the true objective in the south. Rather than being a "paper tiger", I would say this strategy was quite clever.

@TG Where do the Russians go now (Odessa has been talked about) and do they keep all territories captured.
Donbas is over, where to next. Whats your analysis moving forward.
Drezien hasn't eve mentioned the woman part. You are on the top of your game, as always. Kudos to you.

@ Packetcap,
I tend to agree with you about our military capabilities. How soon we forget that we were utterly unprepared to go into Iraq the first or and certainly the second time, and suffered tremendous casualties due to change in enemy tactics, especially use of IEDs. We used "modern" mechanized warfare (bust through and speed into the back of the enemy's defenses). All that we really did was bust through an open door, and allow our rear area units (softly protected) to get picked off. We conquered nothing by speeding through the desert, Basically walked into an ambush that lasted years.
The Russians seem to have learned that lesson. Better to slog through and take care of all business up front, instead of leaving enemy remnants behind in your rear to mop up and cause trouble later.
Plus, they are using the age-old concept of "shell shock" with massive arty bombardment, which is basically like putting brains in a blender. I knew vets from Vietnam who spoke of carpet bombing by B-52s. It wasn't the shrapnel that did the damage....it was the concussions from the blasts. That alone would knock down cement walls, even from a distance. This is also spoken of by returning mercs who got exposed to this type of fire. We in the west prefer smart bombs of course. And the last time mass arty was used against us in this fashion was probably WW2.
I would say this war is more like WW1 than WW2, complete with trench warfare and all. Just with a modern twist. The west mistook the slow speed of the Russians as failure, as our doctrine is speed at all costs. A common refrain is "who gets their first-est with the most-est wins". No doubt the Russians had their foibles (the enemy always gets a vote).....but their plan is unmistakably working. And they are only using a fraction of their military. I would not trust any analyst in the MSM as they are proven liars, as the results increasingly show. I am still waiting for the Russians to run out of ammo.

If these Communists and NAZIs, running the government, excelled at growing an economy and protecting citizen's FREEDOM, as well as they destroy an economy and remove citizen's FREEDOM, you might have a standing Republic, instead of a standing BANANA REPUBLIC.
Maybe Zelensky is recruiting the mentally ill, who had sex change operations and now identify as a female, so they will still have the physical strength needed in battle from their XY Chromosomes they were born with.
I was reading last night about the EU/ UK plans for eliminating imports of Russian oil. They are nuts.
If they proceed as planned, Europe and the UK are toast. Right now where I am in the UK, a litre of diesel is +/- 1.90. If I were a betting man I would be laying a bet on that price being 2.50 by Christmas. Mid-February this year I paid 1.50.
The demand destruction could be immense. Are the leaders of the EU/ UK really that stupid they don't realise this? Essential services will simply grind to a halt. As will industry.

Is that Ukrainian thing still happening? Old news, and so boring. My neighbors have already taken down their Ukrainian flair and moved on - its Monkeypox Season now!
The problem with Ukraine is no American cares because why would they worry about some stupid country south of Mexico? Now Monkey Pox is a whole different animal as you can take personal action like wearing a mask, social monkey distancing, and hopefully more mandatory injections. I really hope Monkey Pox takes off as I find the word monkey inherently hilarious and Id love the opportunity to work into conversation on the daily. Also, Ive added a monkey and a syringe to my Twitter handle so as you can see, Im really doing my part.

If it was a feint it was poorly executed, no military wants to have whole elite units basically destroyed like VDV was. I think it was a decapitation / regime change attempt. A gambit that depended heavily on highly competent manuever warfare. They miscalculated the amount of resistance and their own capability to pull it off. They have now switched to a firepower and attrition march through eastern and southern Ukraine and they are doing very well at it. They had similar issues in chechnya and Georgia and I think there was some legitimate surprise that their military hadn't made more progress in executing combined arms operations.
