I count/pace them in my vehicle constantly and you are correct. I compare them to the exit numbers on interstates when we roadtrip just to see how close the local DOT's actually get, understanding that they can't be 100% accurate due to geography. Most exit numbers are in the ballpark, give or take a tenth or so, but I've seen some of them up to a half mile off.

Also, if i/we wreck out or happen across an incident I can call it in accurately.
