About 20+ years ago, Randy Weaver was at a (Columbus) Ohio gun show.
I remember waiting in line to get a copy of "his" (rumor, his daughter helped/wrote most of it, but whatever) book, I'd heard he would be there that weekend.

I can't claim to see inside his head, even looking (briefly) in his eyes as he shook my hand and thanked me for buying his book. Every few people he'd say (it's fuzzy being that long ago but something along the lines of) "if you could share this with others that's worth more to me than than getting extra copies." I assume that was due to having a limited supply and the line just kept lengthening.
I will also say it's hard to fake emotion (not impossible) but he kept looking at the line that never seemed to get shorter, and seemed overwhelmed so many folk had showed up to meet him and (maybe) get a book.

He was the definition of "wanted to be left alone", so anybody contemplating that as a possible outcome or strategy, in the future needs to remember, "they might not."
Also, as (more than) a few folk have pointed out, "wanting to be left alone" is part of the reason we're in this situation.
