We literally had an all-hands meeting yesterday about the importance of properly tracking our lot numbers on raw materials and manufactured GMP products. It is critical to every investigation of why things fail. My group always incorporates the manufacture date into our lot numbers and I hate seeing lot numbers without that. The first most important thing we ask in a deviation investigation is, when was it manufactured?

I can see in those Moderna lot numbers a 20 and 21 that is consistent and must refer to the year of manufacture. It seems to skew to higher fatalities in the 20s. 'A' likely represents the Alpha of the virus. I'm not sure what the rest of their lot number means, maybe the L M K A J is associated with a specific site location.

For Pfizer the EN/EL looks more dangerous than EW.

The point is, the lot number contains a short-hand code that conveys useful information if we knew what it meant.
