Important Public Service Announcement. For those who are diabetic on insulin. It is possible to get long acting (NPH) and short acting (Regular) insulin over the counter at Walmart for around $20 to $30 per vial. You have to go to the pharmacy counter because it is not in the regular isles. Also, you need to work with your doctor for dosing and how to mix long and short acting insulin in the same syringe. There is an article in Juvenile Diabetes Foundation website that provides additional information. No one should die because they don't have the money to purchase the new (patented) insulins that no one can afford with out health insurance. It is somewhat more difficult to manage diabetes the "old fashioned way" but people (diabetics) don't have to die for the sake of money.
Also, if you are on specialty drugs (usually very expensive), be aware that many manufacturers have discount coupons and programs to help defray the expense of these medications. Many times, income is not a limiting factor, but folks have to apply for the program. No one can afford $60,000 per year say for example Humira for rheumatoid arthritis - unless you are a millionaire or billionaire. I am not making any judgement as to what medicine folks may be on or why. You will want to do some on line research and ask your health care provider about this topic. Many folks do not even know these programs are available to ask the key questions. I hope this helps.
