That has happened several times through history and in every case having lots of money and political power was worth bupkis. Those filled with said hubris wound up in the trench with their brains blown out or head cut off exactly like all the ordinary proles that were slaughtered as well.

In the end every human is equally easy to kill and, with very, very few exceptions getting someone or their family members is in fact very easy if someone REALLY wants to do it. As soon as the will is there in some group that gains power and decides you're not useful anymore you're fucked.
