The bar to gain letters after your name, whether they be "BS", "MS" or "PhD" has dropped so low in the last 30 or so years that all said letter prove today is that you can pay the tuition and fees required.

I've read a decent number of theses over the years and the lack of anything ground-breaking in virtually every single one of them is eye-watering. More than one of said letter-bearers I've had the misfortune to work with or under has been personally responsible for the destruction of either divisions or entire firms due to what can only be described as a belief in skittle-shitting unicorns.
