I understand this example where there's no domestic alternative. However, if an imported widget originally costing $1,000 is competing against a domestic widget originally costing $1,000 or more and the import is slapped with a $1,000 tariff, what's holding the domestic widget company back from raising its price to $2,000 or just below? And, if the domestic widget company does increase it's price as a result of an import tariff, isn't that inflationary since the domestic price increase doesn't directly flow to fedgov?
