Lastly, if you are planning on making jogging a central routine in your exercise profile make sure you get fitted for proper running shoes. Over the past 2 years, I shifted my routine to more outdoor running and as a result of incorrect fitted running shoes (I was running in New Balance that were too narrow), I've developed Morton's Neuroma in both feet. I've recently switched to Brooks wide width and my feet thank me on a daily basis :-). I will also get fitted for a custom orthotic next month.

Wine: Shoes schmoes. God gave me what man was intended to run on; why would I want to fuck up the mechanics of what he designed? Do you really believe that all these smart people are smarter than he is?

Karl is correct. I have run for 40 years in just about every condition. The human mechanics for running are perfect. The only real thing you need to do is protect your feet from injuries from glass, nails, and such. The worst thing for your feet are high dollar, lots of support type shoes.

From an earlier post a while back.

About four years ago I developed Plantar fasciitis (heels feel like they are on fire) I went to a foot doctor who prescribed Orthotics (expensive shoe inserts for added support). They helped some, but I still had some pain.

Then by chance, I got pink eye and when I went to see my regular family practice doctor he noticed my top of the line shoes...he said those are bad for your feet, you know. Turns out he was a runner too. He advised I go read a book, "Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen (Vintage) by Christopher McDougall (Mar 29, 2011)

http://www.amazon.com/Born-Run-Superathl....

It is a good read, even if you do not plan to run.

It changed my running life for ever. Today, I do not have Plantar fasciitis, my running times are faster than they have been in twenty years. I do not wear Orthotics anymore. I removed all support in my shoes and run on the flat base.

The book explains a lot and like I said it is a great read that includes amazing feats of running along with anthropological information about how man is the best running machine on the planet and why.
