Ukraine had always been a territory of Russia or Poland up until the fall of the Soviet Union. One thing to remember is the young adults have grown up in an independent country, so may have a very different view than their elders in the government. While the Ukraine has definite divided loyalties, many would rather side with Western Europe. I think there is much mistrust towards Mr. Putin. Ukraine could easily lose what independence they have gained under an authoritarian Russian overseer.
I admire there grit in standing up to their own government.
