What's bothering me right now is the possibility of a nuclear war with Russia and possibly China. I can't help but wonder if the horrendous scale of the covid-19 disaster may be such that the political class may be willing to risk nuclear war in order to distract attention from and to evade responsibility for the covid-19 debacle. I know this is not rational at all. But there are times when I think much of our political class is so consumed with narcissism that they may engage in irrational acts. David Goldman (aka "Spengler") has many personal connections to people in the state department and O-6 and above pentagon. He said on one of his Facebook postings that many people who he considered to be rock-solid rational in the past have "lost it" with regards to the decline of American power with respect to the rest of the world. He believes these people are not able to "handle" this decline psychologically speaking and that the political class may be having a collective temper tantrum over it.
