OK, I agree that nothing short of an N95 respirator will stop aerosols. And N95 repirators will only work if donned correctly which I've yet to see done. I've written news articles on the topic of respirators for the metal trade industry so I know whereof I speak. However, I don't get the thing about the fecal aerosol spread through soil stacks in absence of p-traps. Toilets don't have p-traps. Anywhere in the world. This is because the water always present in a commode's bowl blocks fumes. That is, the entire toilet acts as its own P-trap. However, when you flush, aerosols rise into the room and are hence more likely to be spread through the building's ventilation system (I'm sure that even in China they have fans in their bathrooms).
