KD is right ... it's gotten to the point where even the legislative path won't work.

Before you read the rest, do some googling on "balance billing." It will make the following much more meaningful. And, yes, I am currently one involved from a consumer end. Chargemaster of $2700, repriced amount of $130. I am being told to pay the $2700 because of "balance billing," and yet it was an in-network yet not covered service.

Anyways ...

In 2017, in Ohio HB 52 was passed which mandated that healthcare providers provide a good faith estimate prior to service, except in the case of emergency. This was to eliminate "surprise billing" (google it).

On 12/22/16, in (relatively minor) Williams County Court of Common Pleas, a suit was filed by a plethora of provider advocacy groups (Case # 16CI000128) which requested an injunction for putting this law into effect because "providers of the state will be irreparably harmed." In 2/2019, the judge ruled for the injunction, claiming that the law, RC5162.80, "was unconstitutional."

On 3/14/2019, the State filed an appeal in Ohio 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (19WM000001, 19 WM000002 ... the case history nor documents is/are not accessible online).

Look at the original case and the behemoths against which the common man is going. http://pa.wmsco.org/eservices/search.pag....

Furthermore, in 2017, Sherrod Brown sponsored the "End Surprise Billing Act of 2017 -- S.284." It has gotten absolutely nowhere.

Hoping that the legislative route will work is just that. Hoping.

All of this coming soon to a theater near you (if it hasn't already).
