With a CME @Pilot you get PLENTY of warning so if you get ****ed by one you deserve it -- its stupidity rather than nature, in that you DECIDED not to cut the grid ties and ground the gear. Obviously with a nuclear attack you may not get that, PARTICULARLY if someone sticks an evil thing in orbit, leaves it there for a while and then sets it off at an opportune time (a LAUNCH is obviously detectable.)
What DOES bother me a great deal is moving critical communications infrastructure (e.g. ATC) to satellite-based (e.g. Starlink) from terrestrial communications. There is NOTHING you can do in the event of an incoming CME when it comes to satellites; they either can withstand it or not, and that's that, and what's worse of course is that they are intentional emitters and signal sinks, so it is VERY likely they will be damaged or destroyed in a large-scale incident and if they are it takes quite some time to replace them.
THAT is stupid.
