Even if tariffs were inflationary to some extent I dont care. Id rather pay an extra few hundred dollars on imported goods if the benefit is it cuts the income of China. Less income for China means they have less money to spend in their arms buildup. It also means more expansion of local manufacturing which could come in handy if a WW2 situation arises where factories could quickly become arms factories and their skilled machinists etc could make those factories assembly lines hum turning off weapons.
And sell the idea of tariffs to the general public as being green. Western factories have filters etc to keep pollution down so when the left complains just say you are saving the environment to shut them up.
