I believe you are correct in that "we just don't have it in us". It's gone. And the world knows it. I always dig these, as you know. This one is particularly sobering. Party's over is the gist of it. What a shame as it really did not have to be this way. Ugh. Well. I was excited for my birthday. Was. smiley. Seriously though, wishing the best to all.
Edit: When Rush did the song "beneath, between, behind", they were literally damn near 50 years ahead of the curve.

Someone commented on your blog the other day that we are not a serious people anymore. I think that's what this all comes down to.

The West is convinced that they don't have to play by the rules, stealing is perfectly legitimate, lying is always appropriate because we are God's Chosen People-at least, we are led by (((God's Chosen People))).

Trouble is, the majority of the rest of the world doesn't quite see things that way. China is the main player in the world today. Russia supplies them with materials and energy for manufacturing.

We have ....dollars.....and chutzpah.

I agree, massive amounts of pain are ahead, particularly for America and Europe. It's a path that we've deliberately chosen.

For example, if my doctor tells me that if I continue to smoke cigarettes and drink booze in immoderate quantities, over a period of time I'm going to lose the functioning of my lungs and my liver.

I choose to ignore his advice and continue on with my self destructive behavior.

After all, it's my choice. Ignoring the xray of my incapacitated lungs or the sharp pains in my liver is my choice.

I know in my head if I cut out the destructive behavior chances are pretty good I can at least buy a few more years before taking the big chill.

But hey! It's so much fun to be a boozer, weigh 350 lbs, and smoke my head off, so f*ck it, right?

Take a look around you at the land whales, the sixty year old women with koolaid colored hair and a crazed look in their eyes. (Jean Carroll, cough, cough)

Contrast that with any typical street scene of any town in America, circa 1958.

There is no shame, no personal accountability, and no willingness to be an adult and be responsible for your decisions.

Hey, I've got a $50,000 line of credit with my Amex card. I DESERVE this trip to the Cayman Islands. My $24,000 Social Security income won't cover it, but shit, I'll just let my kids handle it when I die.

Don't laugh! I had a similar conversation with some friends last weekend over dinner.

My husband and I are considering relocating and perhaps buying a new house. I mentioned the out of control house prices as something causing me hesitancy. I also mentioned we'd probably pay in cash because, how the f*ck are we going to pay off a 30 year mortgage when we're both in our 60s?

GASPS from around the room! Well, that's your KIDS problem, not YOURS!

Essentially, we're all 8 year olds pretending to be adults.

End well this will not-h/t Susan.

Well I have no particular quarrel with someone saying "fuck it; let the kids deal with it" because, well, the kids can say "fuck it, go bite me!" when you start shitting your own pants.

Then you get to choose -- you blew all your money and pissed them off by being a douchebag, so that's fine. Go blow your own brains out in the woods somewhere or writhe in agony on your own, and when you bite it either way the kids have no obligation to clean up your financial shit. Oh sure, you NAMED one of them in the Will but they can say "fuck that!" and refuse to take the appointment; it's VOLUNTARY.

Sure, the vultures will come and take bites, but that's fine too.

I have no quarrel with this approach to life -- just don't expect anything approaching empathy out of me if you do it. What you're going to get is scoffing or even LAUGHTER, so there you are.

I saw this when I closed on my house. I was 42 and paid cash. The 80 year old seller's kids brought large cashier's check to pay off mom's mortgage. They had all contributed and looked none too happy.

I would not have done that @Phoenix800; let it rot. I don't get how that works; why would the kids do that? Who gives a fuck? Yeah, I get it, Mom "can't sell" if she's upside down but who cares about THAT? So, her credit gets wrecked -- and?

As a kid many many years ago, I remember being told the story of "Nanook of the North". In fact I even saw the silent film as a young student in a Parochial school. What I learned as a very young person shocked me. As I recall, (my memory may not be so good) the elderly, at the end of their lives, are put on an ice flow to relieve themselves of being a burden on their families who don't necessarily have the resources to take care of them (on a sliding scale, I'm sure). Learning this - put me in a dark place. (As a young person, you don't realize that at one point, you will be the one to get onto the ice flow, after saying your goodbyes).
Think about that. The medical system will collapse. The money isn't there. If you need regular medical interventions or life saving drugs, you may be faced with "saying your goodbyes" and "stepping onto the ice flow". (Our host has kindly warned us that we should chose to "get healthy" -- loose weight, get the carbs out of the diet - keto, paleo, carnivore ...)

What will the young do about their current state of affairs within and outside of the USA?
I've done some searching about this group after a trip to Florida and its none too pretty. They seem out of touch and delusional with no concept about what and why things are happening to them and around them.

There are young adults who think working in an office is slavery -

There are young adults who think working 9-5 can't meet their needs and is a dead end life ~

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCEcexlX....

These young adults are not speaking the language of anything that KD posted in his video. They could not answer any questions about the economy or foreign relations.

So it seems best to plan for the depression. A vote between the narcissist and the demented.
Or just turn your back to it all. Within one generation, you and your family will be replaced by a migration tsunami.

Slightly off-top, but in honor of tomorrow's Stupor Bowl I bring you the following ditty in honor of Travis "Mr. Pfizer" Kelcesmiley:

Mr. Pfizer, what you've done to your head
Oh, Mr. Pfizer, how many more dead
Your life to me seem so tragic
With your millions and all
You killed all those people with boosters
Yeah, you're waiting on Bourla's call

Mr. Pfizer, it is you I abhor
Mr. Pfizer, with your pharma support
Covering up jabs that are deadly
Forced all over this earth
Conceived in labs that are secret
While hiding all the stillbirths

Mr. Pfizer, won't you ride my black hearse
Mr. Pfizer, how I wish you the worst
Approaching a time for the gallows
I heed that siren's call
Approaching a time that is drastic
Lining all your backs to the wall

Was it politically sent
I wanna see you drop dead
I wanna see
I wanna see you drop dead

If you are unfamiliar with the melody here it is to follow along:smileysmileysmiley

There have been times and places that one's family name meant something. Of course this is less relevant in the low-trust society we are gravitating toward; nevertheless, I can relate to the considerations which @Phoenix800's tale suggests, and moreover I can respect someone for taking this action even when it inures to their ostensible detriment.

Joe Biden blowed up. He blowed up good. He blowed up real good .He's the demented puppet representing black jesus' third term. All other presidents left town when their terms ended, but not black jesus. He stayed fir a reason. Prosecutor Hur reduced to words what any observant adult has seen; Biden has lost his marbles and the capacity to form criminal intent. Allowing Biden to go to a presser was a mistake by his handlers and calls attention to the fact that he shouldn't be in office.

USC 15 and state equivalents won't be enforced because national and state governments are on the take. Voting harder won't get us out of our economic straits. We may be facing something worse than the long depression. And what will the illegal aliens who have broken numerous laws to get here do when hard times hit and they don't get what they believe they're entitled to?

I now have an inkling on who may have been the sole positive fave vote of a previous posting of mine when so many of you gave negative reviews. I will now give up my caring on that matter.

The interesting thing I found on the TuckerPutin interview was when asked about the Nordstream pipeline Putin mentioned several other pipelines still exist to flow Russian natual gas which have been voluntarily shut down and at any time can be restarted and have cheap energy once again flowing. People willingly handicap themselves and destroy manufacturing juggernauts because it is the 'right' thing to do.

OT...the average credit card balance is approximately $6600. Make no payment on it for 180 days and your credit score probably gets lowered. Somebody loses and somebody benefits. If you can't pay it anyway the worse that will happen (absent a lone wolf from a credit card company) is that a court will issue a judgment against you at a lower interest rate of around 10% of judgment amount. The owning creditor may even agree to accept a greatly reduced payment to close the matter. For the record, never have I accepted one of these post agreements.

An example of this thinking was given in 1890, when Rep. William Mason, arguing in favor of the Sherman Antitrust Act, said: "trusts have made products cheaper, have reduced prices; but if the price of oil, for instance, were reduced to one cent a barrel, it would not right the wrong done to people of this country by the trusts which have destroyed legitimate competition and driven honest men from legitimate business enterprise."

Even if they were not price-gouging, they cut work needed on both labor and entrepreneurial side. That's why bureaucracy both corporate and government will get even more vicious as they destroyed those jobs that someone might take if they decide not to serve the looters -- it's a vicious loop that's tough for society to come out of. But now it seems even tech workers are getting fired, after they wrecked the working and middle class they are next.

This was a sobering drunken podcast. Excellent as usual.

The core problem is that since Alan Greenspan ignited the printing presses in the 1990's and began blowing bubbles as policy, we have not given up the bubble eCONomy that has been in effect for close to 30 years now. Our politicians, clearly, are clowns. They have very little understanding of macroeconomics and have a forward thinking time scale of about a week. A year, 5 years, 10 years... fuck that, someone else's problem.

As a result our society has become deeply self absorbed and narcissistic. There was a report on Zerohedge of people taking car loans that are resulting in payments of $2500 a month or greater. A sane society does not allow this. The predators are feasting on everyone. There is a massive predator class running our government, the regulators, and the courts.

It's going to take alot more pain to get the public woken up. When that happens look out.

Disaster plan ordered for Bayonne, Hoboken, CarePoint hospitals, citing fear of abrupt closure and significant financial distress Published: Feb. 10, 2024, 4:00 p.m.

https://www.silive.com/news/2024/02/disa....

"The state Department of Health ordered CarePoint Health System to submit disaster plans for its three hospitals this week, citing the possibility of the facilities experiencing a disruption in services or be forced to close abruptly because of the networks financial crisis."

"Plus, the state Legislature is working on getting the health network short-term, stop-gap financing, said state Sen. Raj Mukherji.

All three CarePoint hospitals are critical safety net hospitals that serve the most vulnerable among us, Mukherji said. Its our duty to make sure that they have the support they need to survive, and we are working on short-term stop-gap financing while they contemplate transactions that could help them survive long term.

The disaster plans must include procedures in the event the hospitals would need to be evacuated or if services were to be interrupted, including the facility where patients would be relocated."

To piggyback on Raven's comment some, MN Governor wants to ban medical facilities from refusing treatment for people that haven't paid their medical bills. Rural hospitals are closing or cutting back on services (several no longer handle births), I'm sure that idea won't help any.

@Packetcap,
Remind the "assholes" that when one can no longer wipe their own ass, they will be taken out to the ice flow with their favorite folding chair, a handle of cheap whisky, and a blanket. Adios MF'r, it's people like that, who created the shitstorm we're headed for.

I may buy one of those 150Hp woodchippers! I can rent it out as a "fertilizer deployer". Cleaning will be a $100 per use, as I have to powerwash all that shit and guts off the unit. Video tapes of "said asshole" accidentally being pulled into the feed rollers, so they can record what happens to assholes that demand the young'ins pay for their shit! I know a few pussies, that became Stasi's during the jibby jab, that should "look into the guts of a woodchipper while it's running". I'm still mad as fuck at those assholes. I'ld like to see them as compost. In my eyes, they should be forbidden to be buried in any cemetery ... as they are worse than swine.
