 The Idiotic 14th Amendment Argument

There's some argument on that @Flappingeagle - you are broadly correct, but you can bet the fur will fly immediately if Biden/Yellen try to play the "maximum pain" game.

Actually I sort of look forward to them attempting it. They might generate a no-bullshit revolt.

@Ckaminski
Quote:
The sea change in gun rights over the past 20 years has me hopeful that the holes in USS America can be patched before she flounders.

There have been setbacks in places and shit like red flag laws, but more states are constitutional carry now than ever before in our modern times...

But I am a pessimistic optimist so take that as you will.

Actually the framework for that goes back even further. Justice Thomas was a driving force behind the Bruen decision, and he was confirmed 30 years ago. And many of the Senators who voted to confirm him were elected 10 or 20 years earlier. So it is not a stretch to say that this was a 50-year effort.

Few people think in 5-year terms, let alone 50 years. Part of that is the instant gratification culture. People expected Trump to "fix everything" on his first day, which of course did not happen. And ironically, Trump was only elected because enough people were dissatisfied with Obama not "fixing everything" while in office.

It is important to neither be excessively pessimistic, nor excessively optimistic. But rather, to be grounded in reality.

Like Norm Hooten said, "It's never as good as it seems and it's never as bad as it seems, but keep your head and there's always a way out."

Then you have this idiot:

Quote:
The US doesn't actually have to pay off its $31 trillion mountain of debt, according to top economist Paul Krugman, hitting back at the idea that government finances can be compared to household balance sheets in an op-ed weeks before the US possibly defaults on some obligations.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news....

How many people listen to this idiot who is called a top economist. I put Krugman in the top category like the other idiot MAD Jim Cramer is a top investor. That definition of top is not the Webster's Dictionary as top.

We need a lot of pitchforks, tar and feathers. Too much taxpayer money is being spread around to undermine the taxpayers.

Imagine if you will a federal budget that cuts all the funding that makes its way to the likes of ANTIFA, Planned Parenthood, NEA, BLM, NPR, PBS, USAID, and the rest of the subversive organizations with funding from the taxpayer. Along with unnecessary funding of the Depts of Education, HUD, InJustice, HHS, Homeland Security, DOD, CIA, and the rest of them. We would be in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Rod Serling where are you when we need you?

I guarantee McCarthy will cave at the last minute and pass either a CR or some other vehicle to avoid a "shutdown", which we all know is also a farce. Only "non- essential" government services are shut down. Remember when Obama intentionally closed down parks and other government areas to inflict maximum pain on people, in an attempt to put pressure on the Republicans? It worked then and will work now when they put some more Republicans pushing granny over the cliff in a wheel chair ads on TV.

I don't know about that.

If McCarthy is perceived as "caving", there is a good chance he loses his speakership over it, since a single GOP member can call for a vote to oust the speaker because of the rules package they passed.

Throw into the mix a very unstable and unpredictable Donald Trump, running for President, who is, well, unpredictable and an attention whore if nothing else.

And then you have Ron DeSantis, who is going to run to the right of Trump.

So McCarthy has three different vectors that can take down his speakership if he caves.

McCarthy's message is a simple one. The House passed a Debt Ceiling bill. The Senate needs to vote on it. When passed, the President can sign it. I'm going fishing.

Blackpills for dinner tonight--

McCarthy will cave at least with a 30 day CR and then he will have to rely on House Dems and just enough "401(k)(R)s" to pass a clean increase which will end his speakership anyway

McConnell wants a deal and will help pass anything that does not stop the gravy train

If we do happen to hit the ceiling and spending gets cut then the shock troops of the left will be released--the playbook of summer 2020 will be the guide

Trump will be federally indicted by the fall probably without bail so it may be tough to campaign from MCC--maybe they will give him El Chapo's cell or Epstein for that matter--they may let him look out the tiny window at Trump Tower like the sadists that they are

Maybe President Newsom will pardon Trump Napoleon style since Jr is banging his ex--anyone that thinks Trump or Meatball Ron or anyone that goes by (R) will ever be in the White House again is smoking better shit than me

oh well hope springs eternal with the dawn of a new day but I have no confidence in the catfighting (R) factions of the House to stand by their man--oh don't forget that "their man" McCarthy is all aboard the Ukraine money train also

It is my opinion that Speaker McCarthy has the upper hand here, and has it by a mile.

Let us hope he realizes it. It could change the country for the better in a way few can imagine.

@Bluto, Republicans have no chance in 2024. The fix is already in. Unless something spectacular happens.

That is the whole point. He didn't wait around until the Dems would force his hand at the last minute. There is a bill on the table. FJB and Schmuckey can't say the Ultra MAGA House REPS are holding them up. Now they are the holdups. They are going to sit on their hands until the last minute and try to force a deal. If McCarthy has any gonads and common sense, he will Schmuckey to go pound sand and pass the House bill and tell FJB to scribble his FJB on it to make it law. He can honestly say you to both of them did nothing for weeks and FU.

If he doesn't then he will be a lame duck leader until the next election.

BTW ~ Sarah is knocking it out of the park with her most recent paintings.
Posters should definitely check out her website.

And yes, I do own several of her paintings.
