Thanksgiving? For What?

Today's the "celebration" of "Thanksgiving."

Merchants see it as the day on which you both eat and drink too much, immediately followed by the obligatory trek to shop, whether on your computer, phone or in person.

Various punditry tells us that either this was the "liberation" of a land inhabited by savages or the brutal oppression of a peaceful and prosperous people living on a land where "white boys" came and slaughtered them all like vermin.  Neither is true in the absolute and yet assignment of one position or the other -- especially the second -- is now "mandatory" or you will be canceled.

As I've written before many times the true story of Thanksgiving is both more-complicated and at the same time simpler.

The facts are that Thanksgiving is a solid refutation of collective action and thought, aka "socialism", as it was only Bradford's recognition that if he didn't cut that crap out everyone was going to die that led to there being a "Thanksgiving" at all.

Each year we are told more more lies about how "collectivism" is "good."  We just got done with another example of it at COP27 (I think its 27) where Biden promised to throw money at other nations because "we" allegedly are causing the sea level to rise and weather to become more violent.

There is, in fact, no evidence for this claim.  Oh, I know you say, there is.  Nope, there is not. Never mind the fact that CO2 is essential to plant life and the more there is the faster plants grow.  Since humans require plants -- from plankton on up -- to eat and thus survive and the population has wildly expanded one should take note of why we have been able to put this many people on this rock successfully.

The answer as to "why" is in fact the use of carbon-based fuels, without which half the population of the planet -- or more -- would die.

So do enjoy your turkey today as you are one.  You, along with everyone else (myself included) have allowed the lesson of Bradford, who quite literally had to face his own extinction before he woke the fuck up and stopped being stupid, to head in exactly the same direction Bradford was for you and yours.  Let the record show that the last few years of this lesson of collectivism, put forward first with an unwise set of actions manipulating a virus and then a plethora of lies in response to it, from lockdowns to destroying the education of our children to paying bounties for literal toe tags and shoving untested and now-known dangerous drugs into the bodies of over two hundred million Americans have gone quite-literally unanswered with not one head being posted on a pike, legally or otherwise.  These acts directly led to some 400,000+ dead from the jabs thus far on top of the half-million or more killed by said bounties in the United States alone yet this has failed to sufficiently impress on you what collectivism always does and always has and thus "COP27" was allowed by us all to proceed, never mind the deliberate destruction of forward progress on carbon based fuel and use in the United States that continues unabated.

That million dead bodies generated by both the Trump and Biden administrations over the last two years are a mere down payment on what is to come if we do not remember the lesson Bradford taught us all and enforce a full and complete stop and reversal of all brands of the insanity that, the historical record shows, nearly killed ALL the Pilgrims.

Agree with your comment on Bradford's problem but see urge you to visit the story of the real first Thanksgiving at Berkeley plantation outside of Richmond, VA.
Natives determined it was in THEIR BEST INTEREST to help/trade with whitey. Sounds like freedom to me.

As far as the vax, can't help but remember the swine flu vaccine was pulled from the market after less than a dozen(I think) adverse reactions.
IMHO trials should ensue and appropriate punishment (death penalty, life in prison?) meted out for those found guilty.
I'd pull the lever without any qualms. If my wife drops from her one shot and has any indications it's from the vax, bad things will occur. So help me forces of the universe.

All the politicians hate it when I wear my shirt with that phrase and the Seal of Virginia on it. I have a doctored one that has lots of blood spurting from the Tyrant at the point of Virtue's spear.

So long as safety (looking inward, vice outward to national invasions) and sustenance is the purpose of government, none of this will change for the better. The safety apparatus cannot predict criminal identity, but it can be directed at known problems. Thus, personal safety absolutely cannot be assured by such a system, but what can be assured is that known agitators can be ferreted out any time an order is placed. Ironically, that is not in service of what the populace believes it to be. Organization is therefore stamped out, which is one reasons why there are no movements to correct big problems. Here we are.

If the system worked as designed and constructed, i.e., management actually followed the rules, the national experience would be remarkably saner and healthier. You have to have a moral and religious people for that, though.

Help the individual and the collective will look after itself. That's the awkward truth that collectivist types don't want people to know.

I have a VA state seal shirt, too (unannotated). I don't think anyone has ever noticed it.

Eventually people will learn the lesson(s), but we may have a long ways to go yet before that happens.

@Evergreen no you don't.

You DO, however, need a few percent willing to hang those violating the Constitution.

The difference between "kill" and "murder" is that murder, as a subset of kill, is undeserved by the deceased.

COP27 was about 20,000 enviro-junkies, politicians and so called journalists flying in hundreds of dinosaur burning jets to stay in a beach resort that relies on energy intensive desalination for fresh water.
Total wankfest with lots of stupid promises made as they lecture the rest of us on saving the planet. None of the attendees could survive without the benefits of modern life such as air conditioning. Send them back to the first thanksgiving and they would have all starved. That or the Indians would have scalped them for being such Gretas.

I can't stand black Friday but Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Rush Limbaugh used to tell the real story of Thanksgiving the day before on his radio program. I've probably heard it twenty times but somehow I still miss it. (Don't @me about Limbaugh... I know he had flaws)

We've hosted Thanksgiving for the last 15 years. Mostly immediate family come but once in a while a few extended family will show up. We always let our friends know that they are welcome if they don't have other plans or can't travel. We have had, over the years, friends that couldn't travel due to an ice storm, college kids from Canada, friends from Texas that couldn't travel for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, friends that were shunned by their family because they had Covid two weeks prior and this year a friend and her kids who were set travel yesterday but had her car beak down Tuesday night.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

@Tickerguy - From your previous ticker:
Tickerguy wrote..
No, it is that one man - William Bradford - saw the wisdom of private property and free enterprise, and the folly of socialist society, and through his wisdom - far before the Founding Fathers
- he took action to save his people and lay the groundwork for what would become America.

As we loll around the house this evening, plump with our turkey feast, let us hold in our hearts that much of what we have in this nation does not comport with this very basic, fundamental principle.
Our Constitution, written by men far wiser than us, has been twisted, contorted and tortured to permit all manner of socialism and communist action in the guise of "the greater good",
whether it be Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, government schools or prescription drug cards - and that it is our duty, as citizens of this great land, to do that which is necessary - and possible -
to turn away from that which has, in the course of human events, been proven never to succeed.

For me, the lesson of Thanksgiving is truly that failure is always right around the corner and must be actively converted into success by human action.
Yes it is hard. It is unpleasant. It is work. But there is no help for it. Only those that sow can reap.

Thanks to all here (especially our host) who take time to share their words of truth.

And thanks be to God!

Thankful for many things. Including this island of sanity in the gathering darkness.

A meme popped up on Facebook earlier this week which captures where my mind is this Thanksgiving.

Politics, like art, is a representation of society.

JFK said "ask not what you country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".

Today, if a politician ran on that credo today, they would get ridicule or laughter. A sick joke.

Our nation has changed. Massive amounts of immigrants have no idea why we have the rights we do, nor the history behind them. Look how they vote. They do not want freedom. They want freebies.

But even worse......our youth of the last two generations have been completely captured by the socialist left, starting with the hideously corrupt, depraved and venal public "education" system combined with abandonment by their elders. This is our collective (pun intended) future.

Besides, corrupted money eventually equals a corrupted society. The Fed truly is the root of all evil. Without their enabling, imagine how much fuckery and buffoonery would not exist now. Wars, welfare, bankster bailouts, etc......all put on our national credit card. The lies, the scams will never end. I just got my auto insurance bill, up 25%. My homeowners went up 30%. I could go on...but you all know the deal. Figures lie and liars figure.

But this is what happens when increasingly everyone is on the take, and "wants mines". Starting at the top, and has now infected our entire society. Student loan bailout being the latest example. Funny how no one asks what happens to the next batch of future student debt slaves? Will they get a bailout too? Reward the stupid by penalizing the productive.

Welcome to the third world. This is what it is like.

Oh well. It was a good run.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

@Whossane beat me to it. Limbaugh had his good & bad, but IMO he will remain the radio G.O.A.T forever. His annual Thanksgiving homage reflecting this Ticker was always enlightening and thoughtfully presented. Its worth your time to search for it if you've never heard. Man I miss that guy! Our nation has changed. Massive amounts of immigrants have no idea why we have the rights we do, nor the history behind them.

Many of them also don't comprehend Thanksgiving. I had someone working for me once from South America, and he mocked it as an awkward Thursday day off. He'd been here for decades and hadn't bothered to try to understand.

No "Thanksgiving" at my house. I won't be thankful again until every cocksucking m'fker that had anything to do with pushing the toxic jab on society is either dead or begging us for their lives not to be taken from them in the most public and painful way possible. Here's a special FU to the media and all the politicians that pushed and went along with it all. Also my sick fucking ex-brother in law that works for Pfizer and told my now completely brain damaged ex-wife that it was safe to take the shit his company made massive profits on without any regard to how many people they maim and kill. Until I see shit tons of the insane assholes dropping like flies I'll not believe in God or be thankful. As of right now, I still don't get hardly any recognition that the shit was a scam and dangerous from the jabbed people I know, even though most are having side effects all the way to serious health problems.
