. . . CNN is now reporting that he is directly funding and operating Ukraine military communications.

Since it appears that CNN still retains some of its privileges as a mouthpiece of government, it would seem that said government might be inviting someone else to do their dirty work for them. Seems Musk's bid to get reimbursement for his Ukraine Starlink setup was denied? If that's so, then perhaps they're leaving him twisting in the wind. Well that's one way toward nationalizing Starlink without a fight.

My take on all things Musk-related: he has shown great alacrity for government gimmes, but not a whole lot of genius beyond that. His greatest gift is the grift. His major business lines, Tesla, Solar City, SpaceX, Starlink and now Twitter have all been heavily dependent on government largesse in various forms. So the government that gave to him can also take it away. He's not an independent actor, that is for sure. How that falls out? I dunno cuz a good part of the story is taking place behind closed doors.

But didn't I read that the "censoring " dept of twitface only hot a 15% cut in employees. Versus 50% in all other departments. Musk is in bed with the government, and no way no how is twitface going to be a free speech beacon. That dept. is still well staffed and will aid and abet in axing anything that does not parrot the party line on all matters. All the rest is a sideshow for the idiots who question nothing, even if it means illness or death to follow the narrative.

And as an aside, why aren't the yahoos up in arms about a massive layoff program by Suckerberg over at Meta?

How did these companies get so big that Musk and Suckerberg buy them for billions yet they are so massively employee heavy to an unsustainable level? Such that one of the new owners first tasks is to layoff soooooo many. As a business owner myself it is unfathomable that your payroll would be so horribly inefficient and bloated. But then again I ain't a multimillionaire gazillionaire so what do I know. Were they getting .gov money to pay the folks?

All major media mediums are nothing more than Pravda, and controlled through the backdoor by the communist government of the United States of BANANA REPUBLIC.

Only a stupid person attempts to convince themselves they are Free in a BANANA REPUBLIC.

The social media platforms are nothing more than an extension of the public schools to continue the brainwashing after school is over for the day to continue manufacturing Useful Idiots.

@Hobbled - The funny thing is that back in the teens, Facebook was a darling of the business press for having an extremely high revenue per employee amount.

Is there a more mysterious character on Earth than Musk? He said one thing that caught my attention, that he wanted to push the rock of knowledge forward. You have to respect that attitude, because few individuals will do that.

Tesla is part of Biden's inflation reduction act. More subsidies, cheaper cars. But it does nothing to lower the cost of a car. We are in the realm of double speak, where a President reverses the policy of lower diabetes drugs by the previous President so he can later call re-imposition inflation reduction.

I wonder what Musk is up to with Twitter. Effectively he bought a zero, unless Twitter is funded by the CIA, which requires he not do much to change the propaganda. He has smoked out the fascists, whether he intended to or not. Never buy a GM automobile, which should be called Obama Motors. The list of companies threatening to pull advertisement should go on everyones no buy list.

Quite interestingly, Twitter may have killed itself. There are now other platforms. If Twitter wants to remain a left wing echo lie chamber, let it. We are talking about the lunatic fringe, pretending to be the mainstream. No one has to go there, if they are interested in true discussion.

I think it is important Musk was born in South Africa. They left for good reason. Leftist games and revisionist history made for a hostile environment for whites. The blacks followed the whites to SA, a country inhabited by bushmen. They had no more right to live free in SA than the whites. Maybe Musk is onto the race baiting going on in America and what, for all rational purposes appears to be a call for European descent genocide.

I miss shit-posting on Twitter. There is little that is more entertaining than, after a few cocktails, trolling libtards of all political persuasion and watching their heads explode.

And I'm a tad annoyed that I'm now in the same perma-ban category as Kathy Griffin.

So, it this where the "Make Twitter a bastion of free speech again" starts, or does that happens after all the voices they don't like are deplatformed? I don't use Twitter so I get confused sometimes.

So Twitter is/was going to implode since no profit, the purchase was/is a dog and pony show, by a money printed government agent? All to give an appearance of legitimacy to the, beyond stupid American public.

Is Elon a chosen one, like Obama, a front man for the body politic all to advance the changes that have been broadcast since I was a tot; such as no more nukes, the sea is rising and big brother will save my ass?

Musk didn't "win" by competition.
Were the credits that were paid to Tesla not available to anyone? Could another automaker, either an existing one or a different startup not have taken advantage of the same largess by building cars that qualified for those credits?

Were NASA's commercial ISS re-supply and crew contracts not available to anyone who could demonstrate they were capable of putting a payload in orbit at a lower cost?

IMO, he did win by competition. He took advantage of opportunities created by government that nobody else was willing to try for. Is it unethical to win by suckling off a couple of government teats that nobody else seems to have noticed or made the effort to reach?

@Uwe - It IS wildly unethical when the reason you can claim to be "green" (and thus get the credits) is that you deliberately suborn and exploit literal slavery and environmental destruction in another nation, yet claim it never happened.

That cocksucker should eat a thousand suns for what he did, and I remind you that it wasn't just Tesla -- Solar City was another one where the fraud blew up in his face, yet cost him nothing and he kept all the taxpayer money he stole.
