 Court of Appeals Speaks: ENOUGH

Meh.

Only those that plausibly fall under common-carrier rules.

That's why the Texas law "works" from a legal perspective.

Immaterial to be the law at issue.

That won't stop them from trying. They just tried to claim that censorship is free speech.

There is a follow-on effect after these common carriers "lose".

The positions of these firms will be cemented in the new unrestricted speech model, and it gets worse. They will extend that towards freedom of expression and not filter out content and groups offensive to the general society which have contributed to the downfall of our morals, values and decency.

Remember that these firms are closely intertwined into the whole woke, alternative lifestyle and degenerate interests promoters.

YouTube did a lot to clean up its acts in the journey to be more "commercial".

Sounds like an old debate from an earlier era of the internet. Because it is the same debate and goal. This will be shown to be the ultimate head-fake. They got their access to the last of the internet holdouts, the families and children and teens, holding them with the social media dependency of habit and addiction. Ah, the smartphone. The tunnel to their minds and activities was built. Now it is time for the information flow.

It was this same safety cult which gave the impetus for the Apples and Facebooks of the world to make safe spaces. Safe from everything not approved by their leftist and communistic goals while playing the Karens with family friendly and easy. Now they will have someone else to blame for opening up the floodgates which they always wanted to do.

And, then they will go beyond mainstream to the other side of common, titillating, disgusting and degenerate, probably while charging a fee directly or indirectly, openly giving access to the safe-space crowd ...

... just like they always wanted to do.

Censoring speech and monopolizing business. Amazon just told its sellers they cannot sell for less on other platforms. Way past time to take Bezos inc down.

@Vernonb -

That's wildly illegal under 15 USC Chapter 1 and until people take HEADS for this sort of unlawful behavior by corporations if and when the government refuses to bring the criminal indictments (prison, not fines) it will continue.

@Tickerguy

Yep. Same thought. They are getting more brazen daily with this lawlessness.

Amazon`s actions force sellers to now eat the cost difference of using Amazon as their platform instead of being able to increase pricing due to increased expenses imposed by Amazon.

Caught this tidbit on news last night.

Its bad enough Smamazon steals business and undercut the pricing of their sellers.

Most however will only grumble instead of suing and giving the middle finger.

Exactly @Vernonb; Amazon distribution is only a "good deal" if the costs of using it (those imposed by the platform as a commission, warehousing fees, shipping charges back-billed to you as a merchant, etc.) sum to LESS than you can do any of those things which you need to do yourself.

If they do then its a good deal from your point of view.

Here's the common law of business balance once again, however:

If those costs are less than you can do it yourself through other means, either in-house or by hiring someone else, your pricing on Amazon will always naturally be less, because your COSTS are less. If you can successfully price lower OFF Amazon then the alleged "economies of scale" of a firm of Amazon's size which they claim is to your advantage is FALSE.

As such the mere presence of such a constraint is hard, factual evidence of Amazon committing said felony under 15 USC Chapter 1.

@Vernonb, Louis Rossman (Right To Repair advocate, among other things) was all over this Amazon thuggery yesterday and we can expect to hear updates and more from him.

I'm glad Jeffy's little LOTR farce is collapsing under its reportedly-$billion budget.

The balls they had to argue that not censoring speech will "chill speech" and therefor censor speech and therefor be unconstitutional... I say had because the court chopped them off...

But when you can argue that men can get pregnant and women have penises I guess not censoring people is censoring them.

I had a volunteer organization that I managed with a private group on FB. Covid shut that down and when I was able to start up again I chose not to. The benefit I received from the other groups I engaged in wasn't enough to trade my data to FB to and I basically stopped using them. I cleared my account out as much as I could and haven't posted much if anything in probably 2 years now. Once in a while I will look at market place or look at a link someone sends, but half the time when someone sends a link that requires me to login I don't bother. I ask the person sending the link to screenshot it for me.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out but I've said for years they're a public square and thus have different requirements when it comes to upholding 1A. Private businesses are free to do as they wish but when you become the defecto sign pole for public discourse then you can no longer ignore people's right to free speech.

I'm sure there's a way to make a system that allows people to focus on what they want and nobody to be censored but that's not what these companies want. They want to control and enforce their view and the view of their supporters on everyone and create an echo chamber to gaslight the public with...

The past 6 years have been incredibly revealing. A whole lot of people gleefully showed the world who and what they are and what they think of their neighbors, co-workers and families. The Karens have done all of us normal people a great service. When hard times come, we all know who we need to let starve to death in the elements. I imagine the score-settling phase of societal collapse will be horrific.

@Tdurden Honestly, there are a lot of corporations that have needed to be executed, but have lived on.

Pretty much every major German corporation that participated in their WWII slave labor program should have been disbanded and had their assets liquidated at auction. Yet they survive to this day. Might make corporate boards a little more cautious about just doing whatever the gov't says to just because it says so.

Which is probably why no gov't is terribly interested in seeing that.

RIMM did this. When I got my BB10 years ago my pw had a certain four letter F word in it and it would not accept it. My suspicion was up and I tried several other curse words and it wouldn't take it. No curse words and it let me set the password...

That's different.

The UI can make enforcement about the password Contents because it's still local.

But once that password is sent to the server it should be a hash. Unreadable.
Rangeishot 1k posts, incept 2021-11-18

@Ckaminski Nope. Passwords are generally transmitted as entered, it's how they're stored where hashing takes place. They're secured during transmission at the transport level (in browser-land, SSL/TLS).

You never trust the client side, so hashing anything there accomplishes nothing useful from a security standpoint. For a non-reversible hash, the client can't generate the salt because that would have to be provided to the server (so that later logins could produce the same hash), and for a reversible hash the server would have to know and send the salt. Neither extra steps add any security.

If your transport security is compromised, you've got bigger problems anyway.

It's likely that all large social media sites are either started by or co-opted by government entities for data gathering and behaviour modification/propaganda. People get their news from social media. It's the equivalent of the television for the boomers.

I really wish Trump has section 230d them, including Google - remember how they manipulated search terms to deflect Hilarys crimes?

I am not sure if many of you understand how much social media is destroying society because it is enabling the most vapid and narcissistic behaviour from women.

Women's brains cannot handle social media because they are hard wired to jockey in their social circle and agitate to the top. However, due to social media their "circle" is the whole world and they compare themselves not just to the top 1% of women, but also fake realities.

It's similar to how porn messes men's minds.

Women are no longer dating 7/10 men and below, or never settle/marry/have kids as they attempt to trade up to the good looking influencer (that they know they deserve!)

Meanwhile, men are struggling to establish careers (partially because women have taken their place), they can't afford property, and with all those headwinds they can be excused for choosing welfare and video games
