I don't remember what school lunch cost. Maybe 50 cents ? I graduated in '76 so...

Anyway. Most of the kids at school qualified for free lunch. My family just barely didn't. We got by, never went hungry unless you just refused what was cooked. For my last two years, they gave everyone free lunch. There were 650 kids in the high school and giving 50 kids free lunch was cheaper than paying the old lady to collect the money.
Don't worry, they put her on the other side of the counter to collect the money if you wanted extra milk.

There was no menu or anything like going to Luby's. Lunch was whatever they cooked. Eat it or don't, bring your own, whatever.

If you wanted seconds or thirds, your plate had to be empty. Real good lunches. Man, those old women could cook. The enchiladas were better than any I've had in a restaurant. And if the lady on the serving line liked you, you got a chicken neck with the Spanish rice. :)

Then they started free breakfast. Yeah, no. A couple of frozen waffles or pancakes with a carton of milk wasn't worth waiting in line. Besides, we had breakfast at home... before the 1.5 hour bus ride.

As for homeschooling, isn't that a lot like Mom and Dad helping with and making sure you did your homework?

With Home Schooling being technically proficient is far less important than imparting a love for learning. If mom and/or dad sit down with their high schoolers and show they want to learn they can get them through chemistry, advanced math and physics. My son and daughter both now in their late 40's still find thing they want to learn about and pursue those topics.

As others have posted their are lots of Home Schooling Co-opts where parents offer a class in a technical subject like chemistry or physics.

I was on the bleeding edge for Home Schooling high school age students back in the mid 80's. Bleeding edge because we were turned in to CPS and truant officers twice by family and were shunned by church members.

My wife, a high school grad only, did most of the home schooling. I picked up the heavy lifting for math and science.

One more comment re: the drinking age since this seems a good thread to do so.

Driving into PA a few years ago drivers were greeted with a "Report Underage Drinking" billboard with the a phone number. A snitch line for "the crime of the century", huh? Fucking totalitarian bullshit. And anyone who actually called said snitch line has no grounds whatsoever for complaint if they were snitched out for violating "lockdown", failure to wear your "mask" properly, or not submitting to your "vexxine". It's a slippery slope isn't it, assholes? Enjoy the authoritarian hellscape you created.

Oh, and fuck PA. Fix your damn roads (worst in the US) instead of worry what otherwise legal adults do in their own time... smiley smiley

@Nadavegan: School should end at age 13, max. The smart kids should go to college and the rest learn to do something. John Taylor Gatto said public school was used to keep people children. The country would take 100 steps forward, if they did that. I could have done college at 13, if they had put a couple of introductory courses in. Maybe it would have been 5 years instead of 4, a year getting up to college level. Math is the hold back, for most. I could have done college algebra at 14, though it would have been hard.

Who has mapped out the utilities that service DC?

Given the population density they certainly start and transit thru other jurisdictions.

Any chance those can be *legally* diverted/disconnected?

So why is this trans shit falling out of the sky all of the sudden? Why is the propaganda so intense coming from all quarters, including media, sports, Hollywood, etc.?

Likely because its an election year and the bully club of transgenderism is being wielded by both sides. The Ds can motivate their SJW base to donate time and money to the cause while the more excitable Rs can once again be fear stroked for the added donations as well. After all, they are coming for your children! Right? So youre told.

Quote:
The propaganda is so effective that I have read up to 10-20% of students are now gender confused. Maybe someone should check the water?

Oh come now. You know that literally everything that falls from their lips is a lie. They say 10, its likely 4%. Inflation they say is 7? You know its likely 15%. Bidens approval rating is 28%? Its probably 22. 70% of those eligible took the experimental injection? Its more likely 50%. And so on.

But its very likely environmental damage, from micro-plastics to estrogen finding its way into the food and water supply, and the decrease in protein consumption also plays a role. You didnt really think the ongoing multi-decade war against meat has anything to do with climate did you?

Quote:
Studies show that mens testosterone levels have been declining for decades. The most prominent, a 2007 study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, revealed a substantial drop in U.S. mens testosterone levels since the 1980s, with average levels declining by about 1% per year. This means, for example, that a 60-year-old man in 2004 had testosterone levels 17% lower than those of a 60-year-old in 1987. Another study of Danish men produced similar findings, with double-digit declines among men born in the 1960s compared to those born in the 1920s.

So if they cannot get testosterone low enough, perhaps they can convince some men to castrate themselves instead. We all know steers are much more manageable than bulls

Next I believe the transgenders are being promoted so heavily as they will provide a tripwire, a canary in the coal mine for the Cabal; once they start getting cut down in the streets, this will be a sign that the population is reaching a steady boil and it might well be time for the Cabal heavies to decamp to wherever their bolt holes are, or to their new host if possible.

Transgenders also provide an excellent addition to the distraction mix to keep the mental circuits of the people occupied with, frankly, fluff of near zero consequence when compared to racial propagandizing like critical race theory, inflation that will soon have you unable to feed yourself, and that will have your parents eating cat food meatloaf, the ongoing literal illegal invasion, the intentional demolition of supply chains, and on and on and on. I can promise you no transgenders make the myriad policy decisions of the kind that are, and have been, impacting and destroying your life for the past 50 years - such as currency debasement, senseless NeoCon wars, 1/3+ of your income stolen and pissed away, and your country being stolen out from under you.

And you can counter-argue about our friend Dr. Admiral Rachel Levine who is apparently transgender but to do so youd have to ignore the most relevant fact about her. It isnt the fact that shes transgender, of that I assure you

Nadavegans excellently written (and copy-pasted from 4Chins) anti-trans fusillade illustrates another of the uses of the transgendereds; they allow the weak and powerless a safety valve they can safely vent their vitriol on. Would our friend Nadavegan unleash an equally well-written invective on the true oppressor and destructor of the West? On those that just happen to be the biggest and best funded promoters of the transgendered movement and of trans acceptance?

If he even has the IQ and perspicacity to know their name - I do wonder if he would name them here with such cavalier prose?

In any event, the answer is to get your kids out of public school, as our benevolent host has noted, for literally 2 dozen reasons, transgender exposure being pretty far down the list. Homeschool, private school, foreign school.

And heres a home schooling pro-tip from an article Im writing for one of those online publishing platforms where you can distribute polemics and perhaps earn some custom:

If youre not worried about getting into the good school district, like so many cattle clamor to do, you can dump the expensive house, its outsized mortgage and property taxes and go to the country, and build you a home. The lesser wage earner can then quit their job, ditch the extra car and teach. The best wage earner will have to commute farther to work, while the kids will grow up learning first hand about horticulture, canning, animal husbandry, riflery, and a long list of actually useful extracurricular activities.

You can plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, and try and find Jesus, on your own.

One big reason for shunning: Your good example makes people feel guilty.

They'll SAY they're concerned for the kids, worried that the kids won't be properly "socialized" blah blah blah. But the real reason is that YOU'RE doing the work and making the sacrifices to give your kids the best teacher(s) in the whole world -- namely, YOU -- while they, meanwhile, are relying on old Uncle Sugar, who by the way is now a perverted creep who's actively grooming their children to be served up like a tasty dish to satanic sex predators.

Simply by being you and doing what you're doing, it pricks other parents' consciences. Amd unfortunately, one of the ugliest things in human nature is that people will ATTACK those who awaken their own conscience and make them feel guilty.

Funny and deserving but not really practical unless they are the female student loudmouths promoting this crap. Then I say game on! Hit 'em where it hurts the most!

Participating in such delusions instead of fighting with the unabashed truth is generally only going to allow these idiots to add more pretenders (even if a joke) to their numbers.

Just finished watching "What is a Woman." Only 6 of the Western people on that show were in any way "sane" - two were the producer and his wife. Once these promotors got tied up into logical knots the rest started the name calling and "aggression issues" bullshit. I then find out how many millions pharma/medical makes of this mental illness and the drugs used as puberty blockers (Lupron) are the same used for chemical castration and being abusively used off label.

At this point my only real interests are protecting the girls from these want-to-be predators. In my day assholes that pulled this shit against girls were not able to return to school for medical reasons.

The teachers that support this nonsense should be seen as "grooming" agents.

Why is the community not turning their daily lives into a living hell? Shun them! Don't sell to them. Refuse medical care. Don't sell them food or gas. Too bad if their utilities are cancelled or they suddenly start to have broken utility lines.

If needed extend this to every teacher and administrator that refuses to speak out to stop the issue.

This whole "Pride Month" bullshit has turned into a month of grooming for the child predators in my opinion.

It really is amusing how people believe there's only one way to learn/be educated and that is through institutionalizing a kid for 12+ years.

My grandfather finished school at 14 and worked for the company town business as did his father and other family. He did pretty well becoming an engineer there and writing patents for the company machinery. Couldn't do that now without a couple of degrees and a boatload of debt.

I homeschooled all my kids. First thing people would say when they found out was "I could never do that" and then give me all their excuses. Of course, I would be thinking yeah you could never do it. Lol.

Why everyone thinks "teaching" high school is scary is beyond me. By the time my kids got to 9th grade I expected them to be responsible for their education. I ordered the curriculum if needed, I graded and generally acted as resource and would explain if they got stuck. But otherwise, I expected them to do the work. Once in high school I did not do anything resembling lectures. Got them the materials and they opened the books and did the work. One kid had a hard time with math and together we figured out what was needed to be successful. Another kid had such an easy time with math one year that if she could pass the tests she didn't have to do the homework. We often did art & music together because that's just more fun to do with others. They made their own schedules. The work had to be done by June 1. I didn't bug them to get their work done. For a few topics I bought them lectures on DVD (like from the Learning Company) but that was rare because I didn't want reliance on video. They also never used a calculator until they sat for the ACT. They love to tell people had they had to do ALL their calculations without a calculator.

In high school they all worked. Sometimes multiple jobs.Sometimes 20 hours a week.

And they participated in independent sports leagues, practicing year round and traveling nationally and internationally half the year.

They did ok- they got into Hillsdale and did just fine there.

Sounds overwhelming I know. But I started small. With my oldest in kindergarten. A COUPLE hours a week that's it. Until about 3rd grade. No kid needs "school" all day when they're 5 or 6 or 7. The rest of the time my kids played and followed me around or we hung out with others.

Whatever skills you use now in other areas of your life you can apply to homeschooling. And if you don't think you have any to apply then figure it out and get them.

I've seen some of these math disasters called math teachers. It was once the purpose and need to get an correct answer as quick as possible. I was schooled in Trachtenberg Mathematics. Before calculators and computers speed and mental quickness were a necessity. Slide rules were a useful tool but I never had one.

I'd hate to see some of these teachers on a submarine or plane in a life/death situation trying to navigate in real time with simple vectors without an electronic toy. The less we use the brain the duller abilities become.

All this identity crap is just another excuse to avoid the teaching of real SKILLS within the grooming system.

I was another person who suffered the nanny-state's protecting me from alcohol in the 1980's. I was legal for beer and wine when I turned 18 (for 11 months when the age went to 19). Then I was legal for 11 months when I turned 19. I continued to drink "illegally" for 13 months until I turned 21. The stupid age rise only encouraged illegal and more reckless drinking rather than 'saving lives' as MADD claimed it would do.

I said at the time that the drinking age rise and seat belt laws (another BS nanny state project that started in the 80's) were camel's noses in the tent of freedom.

Here in North Carolina we have nanny stated ourselves from driver and toddler/baby only seat belt requirements in the 1980s to driver, kids up to 8 years or 80 lbs and passenger seat belt laws, to now EVERYONE in a vehicle must be buckled at all times. I say a big FU to the nanny state. If I am dumb enough to drive without a seat belt on then let nature takes it course, it should not be an excuse for government to take more of our freedom and impose an unlawful tax in the form of a fine.

With all the nanny-state group think of the past 4 decades, It's no wonder we have a large portion of our population that thinks it has to ask permission to take their mask off. What ever happened to the freedom-loving American people?

So a funny update - in NC you have to give standardized testing to your homeschoolers, like Standord, OLSAT, or I think there are a few others as well. You proctor the tests, send them in, and receive a grade report.
Part of that scoring report gives the "grade equivalency" where your student is testing. I.e. a 4th grader can be doing math at a 7th grade level, reading at a 5th grade level etc.
These scores are basically averaged/normalized per some formula against all the other students in your state who took the same tests.
anecdote 1 - a couple years ago I got an email with the tests for that year basically warning people that the bar was about to go way UP, due to public schools discontinuing one particular test, thereby removing their scores from the pool, and leaving only private schools and homeschools to compare scores. That speaks volumes in itself regarding the performance level in public schools.
Secondly just talking to a family member yesterday who received their family's scores, and while their kids are what I would consider average in general, they all tested at least 3-4 years above their current grade level including one 3rd grader whose science scores were high school level. They weren't bragging, nor are the parents geniuses, more so incredulous for how low the bar was for comparison.
So for those who think they can't do it, it's not as hard as you may think...

I had the displeasure of driving through NC a couple weeks ago notices about that law were up on the electronic highway signs all over I-95. Another state that needs to stop with the nanny state bullshit and fix their damn roads. Got caught in a backup around Dunn due to interstate being narrowed to 1 lane. Construction in this area has been going on for over 2 years! smiley

I was in my town's library. Up on the second floor they have a "pride" bookshelf in the area where the teens like to congregate after school, and another one in little kids section. I'm talking the toddlers to elementary school section- it has a small bookcase with various "pride" books, a little rainbow flag, etc., right in the middle of the story-time area.

Simple answer - bring in your gas powered chipper/shredder. Start it up! Feed each book into the feeder and watch as that SHIT is turned into something valuable and useful. Perhaps use it in place of mulch out front, around the bushes.
Inform any employees who come and investigate the noise that same will occur with EACH AND EVERY PIECE OF FILTH they bring into the place.

Glad I went to school in the 60s. There were still teachers that challenged you to actually use your brains,

When my son was in high school 25 years ago he was struggling with algebra and asked me to help. I started working a problem and he exclaimed, "NO! That's not the way we were shown." I responded, "Be quiet and let me finish."

I completed the problem and asked my son to check the answer. He said, "That's right."

He then showed me how he was taught to work the problem and it took at least 3 times as many steps. I can only imagine how the libtard teachers instruct the kids these days. Edumacation has been devolving for quite a while now.
