I think, I don't remember personally, I was just a little boy, that my Mom breast fed each of us kids for a couple or three weeks and then onto the bottle. Colostrum.

With my little brother, she used the Playtex bottle system. That was some cool stuff right there. I was pushing all of six years old. But she let us "make" the bottles and make the formula. It was just canned milk with a little water to thin it. There was a bottle warmer that plugged into the wall. About four inches deep, a little pot sort of. Cutesy looking with some kind of teddy bear on the case. Put the bottle in, add some water, and plug it in... when the light goes out the baby food is ready.
You always gave the bottle a shake and dribbled some milk on your inner wrist to check the temperature. And maybe have a sample to see if the hole in the nipple was large enough. More than once Mom would heat a sewing needle with a match and make the holes larger.

Somehow I and my two younger sisters managed to not kill little brother. Heck, I remember teaching him how to walk.

This was all while Dad was in 'Nam. So Mom had four kids and a house to take care of along with the yard.

Good times.

@ Edward.fish,

You millennials vote OVERWHELMINGLY left, and are willingly throwing the rights bestowed upon you by prior generations. I did not say the millennials put Brandon in office. I said you support Brandon. And you do. Or did you miss the voting numbers?

Your generation votes the "squad" and marxist democraps like Warren, Brandon, Obammy, etc.

Deal with it. You are apparently cool with tyranny. Ok.

Now you will get what YOU voted for. The worst part is.....you fail to grow up. Instead you double down on leftist ****ery.

If you think things are bad now.....stay tuned.

You would do well to start looking in the mirror instead of others. You think you are the only ones who had to suck it up and move on?

If you choose to continue down the path to socialist misery.....become an adult, and admit it. It's what you want. LOOK HOW YOU VOTE.

I mean it's worked out so swell for you millennials thus far, hasn't it?

Its the Republicans fault. If we had a 6 month paid maternity leave as Europe does, mothers could stay home and breastfeed their babies as it should be. Republicans are evil.

PS Goats milk from the Amish up the road is now popular. Havent heard if theres a goats milk formula shortage. Anyone?

@ Franco and Trailing,

You may not know this....but doing nothing is always the first course of action when one is doing a decision diagram. Many times in life I had to stand pat given the issues at hand.

And yes, I am not willing to do more than I already do (vote) because fully half this nation hates itself (a.k.a. democrats) and hates me, hates you, and hates our sacred God-given rights. And the young vote overwhelmingly for that party. So that is apparently the future.

But if you think you can change those idiots with your actions, by all means you go right ahead and show us how it's done. Please let us know how you do.

For me, doing nothing is actually doing a lot. Doing nothing and letting reality take it course will cause far greater positive change, and more quickly, than anything you may actually do.

Don't believe me? All those things TG has been warning about has fallen on deaf ears. Ok.

Now Mr. Reality has FINALLY arrived. What is Mr. Reality doing?

Oh yeah....massive inflation, shortages, mental anguish, suicides, drug use, trannys in pools, pedophilia disguised as entertainment, indebtedness, and soon to be blackouts and economic calamity. Throw in the bonus of jab side effects, too. But hey....we got to virtue signal, didn't we? We fought "climate change" too! Oh, and no more mean tweets!

So no, I won't be throwing myself in front of a train for a people I no longer recognize intellectually, culturally or morally. Been there. Done that. Sacrificed far more than most of you reading this, back when this nation and people were vastly different (i.e. FAR better) than today.

I'll watch from the sidelines now. Someone else can carry the ball. I will support mine and other like-minded people, but that's where it stops until this nation gets its head out of its ass.

Separate a people from the consequences of their actions you get a nation of fools. The fed allowed this. For years. But they gave the masses want they demanded and voted for: freebies on the gov charge card. I have zero sympathy for the consequences. The voters did this. And will do so again until the pain becomes unbearable.

We indeed became a nation of fools. But the bill is now due. With interest.

Trying to blame any sizable cohort of people for any one problem is stupid. Many people, events, and motivations have conspired to lead this country to where it is today. The problem is not one president, one vote, or one "generation." Spending time blaming people is absolutely pointless. This isn't a football game. This isn't red vs. blue. When the gas stops flowing and the brownouts begin, you will have only the people in your immediate geographical area to lean on, no matter what "side" they were on in The Before Times. That's what you should be spending your time doing.

@Dagan68

Thanks for bringing the crisis in the medical world up in this thread. Many here know how important it is to get healthy but highlighting that the quality of health care is declining at an alarming rate is an aspect many people are not aware of.

I was a Registered Dietitian from 1977 to 1987. In those days medical care was outstanding for what was known at the time. All the health care workers really cared and put the patients first. My girlfriend is a lab tech (and brilliant) and her daughter just had major surgery to remove her pancreas, spleen and gallbladder. She stayed with her daughter pretty much 24/7 in the hospital for 14 days. I was there several days as well. What I witnessed and what my girlfriend had to deal with was shocking. Many times, she had to step in and correct issues such as the proper way to collect hemoglobin samples or to make sure proper tests were run between blood transfusions for antibodies. Plus there was an obvious effort to discharge her daughter to soon. They did and she had to call 911 and have her readmitted the night she was discharged due to hemorrhaging. Some the nurses were excellent but many demonstrated they did not give a crap about the patients.

And as you say there are/were shortages. Several times blood samples were drawn in children's tubes because they hospital was out of adult tubes.

Two years ago I was in an accident and spent 3 weeks in intensive care and 2 weeks recover. All the doctors at some point said I would have died had I not been as healthy and fit as I was.

As for doctors I agree with your "under 40" comment and I will add I am sorry to say I am very cautious with young MD's that are minorities because we no longer know if they were admitted to med school because of their minority status and moved in front more qualified students.

So folks as Dagan68 has pointed out, get as healthy as you can because the quality of health care will only get worse.

Oftentimes, doing nothing is a good choice.

Don't get a clot shot.

Don't wear a face diaper.

Don't watch TV or give Hollywood money.

Don't support (financially, physically, mentally, or emotional) those that hate you.

Just say "no" and walk away.

If people did that 2 years ago with face diapers, this whole mess would have ended in a week.

Dingle, I totally get your feelings. Been there, done that. And I agree with damn near everything you write. However, the "do-nothing" (voting, as you put it, and I agree) has at best gotten us where we are today. I can make a strong case that it CAUSED the problems we have today.

I've already said what I've done and I did it through a hell of a lot of adversity. I don't mind patting myself on the back for it, either, because it's a hell of an achievement. Building a local, resilient tribe is not easy. It is back-breaking. And teaching a man to fish is rewarding in more ways than one.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Voting harder doesn't cut it. And when SHTF, I for one will not have votes cast for the fruits of my labor. It will be a dictatorship and I will be the dictator. IMHO, Americans have lost any claims to voting in the future. They voted their children into slavery and if folks like me have to bail them out, it won't be through republicanism.

Just my $.02.

Oftentimes. However, Americans frequently define "oftentimes" to mean "always". Churchill was unfortunately right: Americans will do what's right when they've exhausted all other alternatives.

Again, this is just me. But I won't provide a single calorie to folks who did nothing but vote. They will be deemed persona non grata and that position will be defended on multiple fronts. And since we can't go it alone in this world - we absolutely need community - I don't know what the suburban "vote harders" are going to do other than starve.

@Dingleberry -- Bull****.

But even if this were true, let's ask the real question: What has 'Republican' done to address the problem? -- They were handed government in the early 2000's, and what did they do to roll back Roe v Wade? What did they do to increase government accountability? What did they do to decrease government-spending, or at least enact fiscal responsibility? What did they do to roll back the NFA or GCA? What did they do to limit the size and scope of federal government? -- Ah, right, instead of anything like that they threw the younger generations into wars on foreign soil, pissed away money, and all against the literally-unwinnable (because there's no "victory condition") War on Terror.

Where were "Republicans" on reshoring jobs? (That's right, they were sucking off corporations and allowing the blatant H1B fraud.) Where were they on reshoring manufacturing? (Oh, that's right, they were busy "abandoning the principles of the free market to save it" with TARP.) Where were they in the "Great Recession"? (Oh, right, they were bending over allowing Obama's Czar to pull all the bankers together to make them an offer they couldn't refuse.)

Then we got Trump; the man who demanded loyalty yet allowed his supporters to be physically beaten, allowed the riots, and ultimately showed his true disregard for his supporters by pardoning a bunch of ****ing rappers rather than the January 6th "rioters". -- And, just so you understand his uselessness, consider that he patted himself on the back for avoiding the TPP and exiting NAFTA, then signed the USMCA... which had it's own author say that it's "TPP+NAFTA".

And no, I reject your assertion that we're overwhelmingly leftist.
Hell, I ran for Senator and got 10% of the signatures required to appear on the primary ballot. -- No, before you dismiss this, it was I, me, literally by myself obtaining every signature... because family, friends, and the local Republican Party office refused any help whatsoever. (See: http://edward.fish/index.php/2018/01/05/....)

Yes, I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of MILLENNIALS! present in the Congress. Look at how numerous and overrepresented they are. Look at how they flood the leadership of that august body with their foul and insidious philosophies (which can in no wise be credited, in any part, to the public schools... which, it must be noted: they, too, were in charge of during their education!) which are destroying our country... No **** and well put.

Either the Republicans are inept at stopping what has been happening for the last 30 years or they are in on it. My bet is they are 99.99% in on it.

Talk about not looking in the mirror and seeing how those who voted for the Republicans ****ed things up and blaming someone other than themselves... Damm, pot meet kettle.

Both party followers believe the other party is to blame when they really have themselves to blame. They are two sides of the same coin forged from solid 100% pure unadulterated stupid.

100% of Congress and the Senate were for the lockdowns, the ***** spending and the *******s, 97.5% of Republicans are for war with Russia, which pretty much matches the 100% of Democrats that are for war with Russia. See a trend??

Both parties have been in power just about equal time as jobs have been offshored for over three decades. If the Republicans were actually going to do something about what is happening, what the **** are they waiting for, a few more decades to pass???

If you vote for the two parties that have put us where we are right now, you are part of the problem.

Replying to Whitehat's comment on page 1 as it hit a note and sparked a memory.

My dad was one of the many team leaders for design of various systems on the lunar module, which was designed and built on Long Island (New York) by Grumman Aerospace.

The component he was responsible for was the reaction control system. When they needed something unique fabricated that was beyond the capabilities of their own machinists, they could find shops throughout the region that could build/fabricate anything. During on visit with a vendor, the guy told my dad, "I don't even have to leave the city, I know where all of the best machinists, factories are just in the city"

Well...that was in the 1960s.

I googled reaction control system, and the first few links are of NASA working paper published long after the design, testing redesign, testing, building, flights of the lunar module took place.

If you didnt know any better, you'd assume that NASA did the hard work in achieving that milestone for our country.

That taking credit for something one didn't actually do, kind of reminds me of Bill Burr's rant against Steve Jobs:

@Proverbs16.33 -- No, you have it backwards: this is good news.
Think about it, a single person was able to get 10% of the way to appearing on primary ballot without help.
That means that 30 or 40 people could get someone on-ballot... I mean, that's not "there" --and maybe not 'halfway there'-- but it's a huge step.

Things are not as bad/irretrievably-screwed as is presented.* (They want you to roll over and die, not fight.) -- I've said before, that we can turn things around, even now, by turning away from our wicked/selfish ways and towards Jesus.

*In light of Jesus, things are actually hopeful: for if the Resurrection happened then His promises of the remission of sins to all who believe on Him are True... and the certain doom of damnation is replaced by the certain glory of salvation.
