Playing the wrong game there Joe, aren't 'ya?

You have to admit that our so-called "experts" at State didn't foresee this one.  It puts the US and the rest of Europe into an entirely-untenable situation, but isn't far from what I expected -- recognition of the parts of the Ukraine that were and want to be Russian as, effectively.... Russian.

By "recognizing" their Declaration of Independence the label aggressor can no longer be applied to Russia since an independent nation can ask for military assistance and there is no harm or foul (Kuwait anyone?); if any of the other fine folks start shooting to stop it Russia's response to that is now defensive.  Reports are that they have done exactly that, inviting in the Russians as "peacekeepers."  How true that said request was made is, of course, unknown.

The White House is naturally threatening "sanctions."  Not sure what they think they can actually do that will matter.  Barring trade with the seceding territories (which Biden has said he'll do via E/O) is an effective zero as there's no US trade or investment there now.

And let's not forget: A couple hundred years ago we basically did the same thing, did we not?

Yeah, we did.

I'm sure there are plenty of people will opine that "oh you can't do that!"

Well, if you're an American then the only reason you live in America and are not a British Subject is because you can do that -- and our forefathers did.

So was that "check"...... or "checkmate"?

It would be nice if our leaders cared half as much for the future of our country as Putin would appear to do for his.

From my essentially completely uninformed perspective our current leaders vs their current leaders is like the old creepy guy being weird in the locker room at the Y vs a powerlifter at a hardcore gym.

The PantsShitting Prez told us bombs would be dropping into Ukraine faster than he can fill his Depends. Everything he touches turns into shit. Whatever sanctions are imposed will be sure to hurt the American consumer more than Russia.

Russia wins without firing a shot (so far). Not acknowledging the new Russian provinces makes Biden look like an even bigger asshole than he already is.

Seems to me Putin is getting richer by the day since Brandon seems hell bent on destroying our energy (specifically oil) industry. Those beloved Arab dictators are getting richer too (also at our expense)....but I digress.

Brandon appears to be the best thing to happen to Russia in quite some time.

And since the dems and their lapdog media wagged the dog for the last 5 years with lies and "The Russians are coming!" fear porn......I am guessing that at least half the nation knows what happens when the boy cries wolf. A hundred times over.

Are those in charge really this stupid? Are the voters that elected him even more so?

Don't answer.....I already know.

Biden is clearly out of his league with Putin. Demonizing Putin and threatening sanctions can only get you so much. There simply is not much the US can do that will stop Putin from taking what he wants. It must be frustrating for this superpower but 20+ years of failed wars and our treasure spent does not leave the US with many options. Couple that with allies that watched the disastrous and incompetent Afghanistan withdrawal and the allies will bolt at the first sign of trouble.

Nuclear war is not an option and Putin knows that. Plus Putin is not afraid of our diverse and inclusive fighting forces.

Like all great empires the sun will eventually set on them and they crumble.

Isnt sanctioning part of Ukraine the same as recognizing the independence of that part?

I think Bidess team is in over their head.

Our leaders are terrified that a state like say...Texas...were to follow their lead and declare itself an independent Republic, which may very well happen because the current state of play is unsustainable.

A wild though,

What if the next one to recognize those territories as independent is China? the United Nations will start to resemble the League of Nations....

I would be delighted if our leaders cared one-tenth as much for our country's future as Putin cares for his. That would be a big improvement over the grim reality ... they actually hate us and actively want to destroy our country.

And Biden Admin immediately issued sanctions against the DPR and LPR which is a diplomatic recognition of the two states as independent.

And further, sanctions against the states work to the benefit of Russia by forcing the two states into further dependence on Russia.

The globalist are making their move. They want war in that region and you can bet they will deploy every trick in the book to start one. Putin knows what he's dealing with (devil worshipping, evil pieces of shit) which are the same mother fuckers causing havoc all over the world. These evil bastards won't give up, they won't ever stop until we crush them. Prepare for worldwide civil unrest as they ratchet up the violence against all freedom loving people.

China wants to buy a 100 million metric tons of coal from the Russians. I think the Russians have finally gotten serious about building that natural gas pipeline to China (I don't know why they didn't do this 10 years ago). Both of these will more than offset any losses from NordStream2 not going on line.

How much you want to bet that China will also extend diplomatic relations to those two breakaway states? Biden just got checkmated by Putin.

And, yet again, the lamestream media fucking get it wrong. "Putin Declares Independence for Parts of Ukraine." Even the Epoch Times. Shame on them.

He RECOGNIZED their independence. Get it right, idiots.

Donuts to dollars they will.

Our own president Dubya started us down this path with his illegal invasion of Iraq and his designation of "enemy combatants" to get around the Geneva Convention policies with regards to the treatment of POW's.

And 9/11 itself was blowback in response to our interventionism in the middle-east during the 1990's. Funny how everyone ends up biting our political and expert classes in the ass. Of course they are far too arrogant and narcissistic to ever learn a damned thing form all of this.

LOL! Love it! There are some interviews on line with our Excellent Executive Border Czar in Chief, Chlymadia Harris, telling a reporter, "Putin's already made up his mind!"

Reporter-"What will be the response of your Administration?"

Chlymadia-"Sanctions."

Reporter-"But...but you just said he already made up his mind."

Chlymadia-"We believe sanctions will affect his decision."

Reporter-"But...but...you said he alrea...never mind!"

Priceless!
