When I was an undergrad, one of the courses I had to take was on the history of Engineering. One of the topics presented was that historically (1800s and earlier), there were generally 4 professions. The marks of a profession were:

* highly respected by society
* worked for themselves
* set their own wages
* set their own hours

The professions in those days were clergy, lawyers, engineers, and doctors. The engineers who built large bridges were world famous; everybody knew their names.

Clergy have lost respect, especially due to the many scandals they have been involved in.

Engineers are no longer professionals, because almost all of them now work for somebody else.

Most lawyers likewise work for somebody else.

Doctors have now destroyed their own credibility, by their actions over the last 2 years. Not only that, but most also work for somebody else rather than have their own practices.

Slightly off topic, any connection if blood type plays a role in severity or bearing on symptomatic versus asymptomatic disease? Reason I ask is daughter home from college due to positive test but no symptoms for ten days. Me being immunocompromised, show no signs or symptoms. Son who is O- comes down cold like symptoms. So, it got me thinking that two out of five of us are O- and have shown past and present symptoms of something. In my wife's case (O-) she's had the ***19 twice. Or could there be other underlying reasons aside from blood type?

Feel something coming on? Take 2,000mg Vit C every 3 hours. Many times, the "feeling of getting ill" is gone in 24 hours. During Christmas covid, it was about 3,000mg every 3 hours.

@Thegreatunwashed Cruise ships are better understood as floating resorts. Much of the activity is within, not out in the sun. The pools, hot tubs, casino and dining areas are interior. Speaking as a redhead, I can easily avoid getting too much sun on a cruise.
Perhaps the only key feature is the exclusion. Just like real estate, you are paying for the right of non-use. If the unlimited chow line wasn't 10 miles out to sea, it couldn't operate.

the FAA and the FDA follow the same model. Let the manufacturer create the tests, and supervise the testing. Perform little to no review of test results, just take them at their word.

I agree. Also, consider that the passengers on that ship were likely heavily skewed toward the elderly, probably most with comorbidity. Still, only 20% (+/-) affected.
