Heh Tourists: It's October. You're Going To Drive. Now What?
[Comments enabled]

Let's make the choice clear.

You live within, oh, 2 hours of Atlanta.

You can drive to either the Florida Emerald Coast or the Tennessee Mountains, including Sevier County and Gatlinburg.

Both are beautiful.  I live in one and lived in the other until earlier this year.  Best beaches in the nation on the Emerald Coast, if I do say so myself, unless you're willing to go to Hawaii that is.  Yeah, I've been there too.  The Tennessee Mountains are breathtaking as well.

To some degree which you choose is a function of whether you prefer beach or mountains, obviously.  But you can always do one this time, and the other the next, right?

Ok.

Both are somewhat comparable in distance.

The Beach is probably a bit cheaper now, but not much, than Gatlinburg and Sevier County.  It's getting busier here.  Doing a quick survey of hotels, it's pretty comparable for nice places -- and the "more-budget" tier.

But Florida's Ron DeSantis, the Governor, just struck all the mask mandates.  No fines can be imposed.  No mandate can stand that has the force of law.  No constraints on restaurant capacity, no social distancing bull****, you can go to the restaurant or the bar, there are no plastic dividers up and no crap.  He did it today.  As of right now there are no mandates.

Sure, individual businesses can choose otherwise.  It's private property.  They can go out of business too when the restaurant or bar across the street says "**** that", runs at full capacity and has the band come back as well.  If you want to play REeeeeeeing Karen go right ahead.  You won't last a week.

The environment all through Florida is, as of today, normal.  2019 normal.

He did it after consulting actual science.  After spending the time.  And then... he did the logical thing, instead of pandering to bull****.

Mayor Larry Waters-cum-DeBlasio has a choice.  His mandate expires in three days.

But -- he has threatened to extend it.

As of right now, it stands.

So which do you choose?

WHERE DO YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY?

Do you choose freedom where your money is respected and so is your choice -- you can wear a mask if you want, but you can't force others to do so -- or do you spend your money where there are plastic dividers between sipping spots in the bars, where you are required to wear a mask any time you are indoors and you're threatened with fines if you tell them to **** off?

Well?

It's pretty simple, really.  You get to choose, and the distance is comparable.  The environment is pretty in both places, although different.  Both are beautiful.  The cost and hassle of the drive is about the same.

Beach or mountains?

Freedom or fascism?

Yeah, I live in one of them.  But if it was my money, even though I'm tired of the beach?

Where do you think I'd point my car this October -- unless Mayor Larry DeBlasio changes his mind in the next three days that is.

Heh Mayor.... I didn't expect it to come quite this quickly, but, well.... here you go if you don't drop the order or the Governor doesn't force you to and give you a cheap way out:

smiley

I love it when I'm right.

I wouldn't take that bet.

The fever has broken and the states that don't immediately follow are going to be ****ed blind.

Karl, its no bet, just my opinion of that scum.

It would be a godsend if at least one state is ****ed blind. What are the odds of that and when would that be publicly evident?

Here is the link to the Executive Order, https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads....

I like that it forces any local health authority that tries to restrict restaurants to less than 100% capacity to justify it.

I would like to see him go after the mask mandates in the big box stores (Costco, Walmart, etc.) as IMO that is a huge part of the problem.

It's a "crack in the door" smiley Let's kick it in.

All they can do now is trespass you. Which they have to do to EACH person individually and only THEN can you be arrested.

They won't. The box stores will fold within days. Just watch.

"Employees should resume unrestricted staffing of worksites and implement the final phasing in of employees returning to work. For vulnerable populations, teleworking can be considered."

In other words, Karen can finally be told that her six-month vacation is over and she can either show up for work on Monday morning, on time, sober, professionally dressed and ready to do her ******n job or not come back at all.

The fact that Karen is the size of a house, smokes like a chimney and would be no match for Wuhan flu does not make her part of a vulnerable population, and she will be easily replaced in no time by a younger, thinner woman with a much better attitude. She had six months to start eating sensibly and take up strenuous exercise. She's fatter and lazier than ever.

I avoid businesses that impose mask restrictions despite my state, county, and city having no mandates.

My uncle is a little more "direct". He walks right into WalMart without a mask, they ask him to put one on, he says "no thank you", and keeps walking. He says the WalMart he goes to never chases him, forces him to wear a mask, or otherwise. He estimates that 50% of the customers there now are not wearing masks.

I have liberal relatives who have recently have become more vocal on FB whining about how more and more people not wearing masks. They are paying attention. I am not.

I think we are reaching critical mass as to COVID fatigue and restriction push backs.

Side Note: I recently had lunch with a banker who is best friends with a mortician. The funeral home picked up a body last week of a man who had been in hospice for 6 months with cancer. Cause of death on the death certificate? COVID 19.

Just got back from having dinner and drinks at one of local haunts. The manager and all the staff were in celebration mode over DeSantis return to normal decree. We left feeling like it was old times.....nice to feel some progress out of the madness of crowds.

The big box stores (or at least walmart) *MUST* leave how to enforce the mask thing up to locals. Our local store did away with all the bull**** (crazy lanes/mask guy at the door/etc.)

They claim it's company wide, but evidence says otherwise.

Dos it really matter? The 4th estate (press) has everyone terrified and business can not survive 50% occupancy. Their business plans are based on normal occupancy. Maybe the PPP stuff will buttress the Karen loss? Now that I mention it, we are so ****ed as the money printing will continue - Dollar is forecasted to lose Half it's value next year if not more.. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/23/us-faces....

As I compilate places to go it's like Washington county Maine, Yukon Territory, and others places with zero people.

Another thing...

As I said, we don't have any state, county, or local mandates here. The big box stores are requiring masks. Our population is so low and the gross sales that comes from our state are so low we are inconsequential to them and they don't care. Maybe things tipping in FL will have an effect.

Food/drink establishments announcing their permanent closing here are pretty regular now. Can't imagine what it's like in states with continuing draconian restrictions.

How about neither/nor?

I can't even reserve a campground at Vogtle or Blackrock Mountain or even freaking
Ft. Yargo, 5 miles away from home. Too many people from SC, NC, AL, and FL.

In FL, I'd rather stay on the Atlantic coast, where I have lots of family to mooch off of. Otherwise, that city tax crap gets old.

I don't care for the Atlantic Coast. Never really did. The beach is uninspiring and really neither is anything else, other than in a few places around the Cape. There's some nice area there, the rest is just too ****ing busy for me.

Meh, New Smyrna Beach is OK. My memories of the Gulf-side may be marred by memories of drunken frat brothers yelling, "PCB Bitches, Yeah!", then belly flopping into what was hopefully water.

My point is, that I can't get a campground reservation at just about any GA state park, when in any non-Kool-Aid-BeerFlu year I'd have little problem getting a site. My oldest is pestering me about going camping, and I'm considering driving down to Waycross. Drop him off 200 ft away from the camp-site and turn off all the lights. It's a dark site, so either the unencumbered stars will enthrall him, scare him, or a gator will eat him.

I think there was a point to all of the above.

The fatigue and the calling bull**** on the whole scam is really taking hold. I hear it from everyone. I think the lack of having to step over dead bodies on the sidewalk and knowing anyone that is sick or died.

The trace contact quarantine of healthy kids - happened to my nephew. He is a high school freshman. What ****ing bull****.

I know the screaming will be epic by the media. WTF is Florida doing?

Prediction. New Yuckers who go to Florida for vacation are required by Dictator Cuomo to quarantine upon return to NY and submit to a PCR test. Me thinks a lot of EZPassNY toll transponders are going to be left home along with personally registered cellular telephones.

Maybe DeSatan got diagnosed with something terminal and figured why not.
