Obama managed to ram through Obamacare in the first two years.  It would have never passed after that.

Well, what did Trump ram through.  A big fat tax cut for corporations and a huge deficit.  He managed to kill the penalty for Obamacare (not having it), but nothing else.

No other real achievements legislatively.  Zip, zero and nada.

You can't pass legislation without both Houses of Congress. Further, Trump has refused to use his authority in the Executive to break the health monopolies -- which he could trivially do by prosecuting all the felony anti-trust crap (virtually every health and drug provider is exposed there.)  Doing that would have permanently resolved the deficit problem as well as permanently resolving the Obamacare problem.

But nope.  No such.  And now the legislative opportunity is gone too.

Never mind committee memberships and chairs, along with the Speaker's gavel.

So here it comes folks, because the $1.3 trillion debt addition last fiscal is going to be small in coming years.  That's assured.  There will no spending cuts and no more tax cuts, but the problem is that every dollar of deficit spending has become an actual net negative, exactly as I warned in 2011 when I wrote Leverage.  It is simply a matter of time, and probably not much of it either, before the market figures all of that out.  When it does there won't be a "2" as the first figure in the S&P OR DOW Indices.

So enjoy this morning if you're one of those crazies that tries to measure "success" by market indices.  It works for a while when you run 6.2% fiscal deficits.  But when you get a 2-3% GDP economy out of doing it everyone is losing 3% in real terms and unless you can continue to game of offshoring the inflation through ruinous trade policy (which eventually results in every "job" being a McJob as you eviscerate the entire "meat" of the economy) the game will be up.

Now, with an obstructionist House, albeit not fully decided as of yet, the "fun times" have ended.

I hope you've enjoyed the first two years Donald because the next two are going to be a ****ing nightmare.

Blew it indeed...we we're discussing exactly that last night. Now he has a bigger ****show to roll in.

I never expected much out of Trump, other than being a slightly better version of Obama or Hillary. The thing of nightmares is imagining what Hitlery would've done with 2 appointments to the SC.

For the next two years I expect nothing legislatively, assuming they successfully keep kicking the can of collapse. If I were a pundit I'd say Trump had a pretty good night. In 2010 Obama lost 59 House seats and 6 Senate seats. Still, a loss is a loss and effectively Trump's first term is over. Get ready for non-stop investigations.

Those that have power and wealth to lose will do everything they can to keep the wealth flowing to themselves.

On the other hand, those of us who are blue collar workers, will find it harder to keep food on the table.

We are not at "the survival of the fittest", or "maze runners" conditions.

We still got a long way to go before we get to the situations that most of the world find themselves.

I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and make a wild guess that you do not subscribe to "Modern Monetary Theory," in which the government does not need to collect taxes at all in order to fund government programs because it can have the Federal Reserve issue money for those purposes, and that the collection of taxes serves no purpose other than to control inflation by restricting the spending power of the working class.

It took me forever to type that because I kept falling off my chair. I keep threatening to send my medical bills to Dean Baker, at least the ones caused by falling on the floor from uncontrollable laughing every time I read the delusional tripe the NYT publishes for him.

Watching the healthcare stocks rally because they now know that they won't be touched for the next 2 years. Trump had his shot in reigning in some of the price raping and monopolies, but with the left running the house, that will never happen. They are the ones that got the ACA passed knowing very well that it was going to screw 25 million self employed people or anyone that had to buy their own coverage. The left will be running in circles trying to reinstate the extortion tax at all costs. They know that 25 million people may just tell the ACA to drop dead rather then pay insane premiums for no coverage. If you took the $800 a month you a paying for premiums and stuck it in a MSA, then after a year you now have almost $10k for medical emergencies. Hopefully more people wake up and drop coverage and destroy what's left of Obamacare.
They know that the house will spend the next two years attacking Trump instead to dealing with the business for the American people.
This election just verified how truly dumbed down this country has become. I was never really biased to either side until the left when bonkers on Trump. They spent two years using lies and frauds to attack this guy when most of them that were doing the accusing are the criminals. This country is totally screwed now with illiterates like Waters running major committees and making decisions for the American taxpayers. It almost feels like the intellect in this country dropped 50 points in the past decade.

Trump losing the House means nothing. As I've already pointed out: now Trump can run against the Dirty Dems; and whatever goes wrong (e.g., economic turmoil) can now be blamed on the House. In fact, I think this current situation actually helps Trump get reelected in 2020.

Florida didn't get Fairy ****ed, yet. I say "yet" just because it's only a matter of time. Once the Snow Birds die off it's over for the "Cracker State". So prepare accordingly.

I reside in Texas. And it's only a matter of time before Texas gets Betoed. But I'm glad it's not just yet.

Here's the bottom line: shrewd people are stockpiling whatever money, assets and resources they can gather up before an economic ****-storm hits. Washington, the States and/or local government aren't going to save you or me. Only fools believe in "modern day Fairy tales".

first-the country has definitely moved further left if not progressive with all our "diversity".

Second, when Trump abandomed changing Medicare and Social Security during the primaries , that was a clear indication of lack of change

Third, part of his probelms was due to his majority not exactly supporting him, thinking Paul Ryan and others. So while hte republicans controlled congress, it was not Trump Republicans.

next-I see where the social security wage base moved up 3.5% for 2019 while the benefits paid out moved up 2.8%--so will the real govt inflation rate please stand up.

Dec 7 is the debt ceiling date and we know its going to be kicked out again. No matter how you slice it.

Florida and Texas dodged bullets-not sure if AZ did, and there is the country moving hard left.

So like most others here see, the spending will ramp up, first the small things then the "Medicare for all" and other issues.

Most people are too "intellectually challenged" to see and understand whats happening.

side topic on Healthcare:

when I was in Corp Finance, we used to self insure Maj Med, workers comp and life insurance (subject to an "umbrella excess loss" policy just in case)

We hired and ASO-administrative Services company to handle claims and paid 3% of claims to them and we have internal people workiing with the ASO on claims to make sure logic prevailed.

not only did we same $ on th etime value of miney by paying out the cash after the claim vs paying insurance up front but we did control spending and "fees".

I have been out of Corp Finance for 20 years now so I ask the question:

with Obamacare, do the big companies which can self insure have an unfair cost advantage over the smaller companies which have to buy expensive policies?

Yep and Sean Hannity at Faux Snooze and the rest of these delusional MAGA Maggots needs to wipe the semen off the edges of their lips and trade in their knee pads.

Trump got exactly what he deserved and this is simply a preview for his likely tenure as one term president. There are consequences for lying and he screwed with the wrong people that supported him in the past that refused to tolerate his lies, crony support, and obfuscations.

Im wondering if he''ll simply have a temper tantrum now and quit before the 2 years are up or if the dems will try and impeach him thus giving him another excuse to quit after essentially further wrecking the country financially. Of course Dems controlling the house now just gives him another excuse as to "why things cant get done." Curious how this plays out.

Was it all Trump's fault? If I had republicans blocking my reforms I'd would have called out everyone of the sorry bastards by name on National TV and in a Radio address long with the Republican party leadership.

Screw this oligarchy.

Meanwhile back at the border.....

It will be interesting in how they start the new year. Will they go for Trumps throat? Massive investigations? Or will they try to throw Trump a bone to save their precious ACA? I don't get this market rally today. I guess the market believes that gridlock means that they can continue looting the treasury for 2 more years without any interference from Trump. Will mad Maxine go after the Fed? That's the only thing I would find entertaining but know that she doesn't have the intellect to do much damage. No matter what, the little guy loses and these morons that elected the left are just too stupid to see that.
Just hoping the extortion tax stays dead and millions of Americans dump the coverage taking the ACA with it.

So I was scolded today by two co-workers for not voting. I told them I don't subscribe to the philosophy of voting for the lesser of two evils and with two young children and being a single dad, I don't have time to stand in line to vote so others can feel good about our "democracy". I work in Corp Finance for a major corporation, and we would never "self insure" for ANYTHING related to health care. Not touching that liability with a ten foot pole.

We did get nice pricing on HMO coverage... but with the Obamacare "Cadillac tax" on low deductible HMO insurance, the company is dramatically increasing deductibles to try to offset the increases in premium, and to avoid the Cadillac tax. In a few years I'd wager a guess that what was once a very nice offering of HMO options for employees will be reduced to pricing and deductibles that are very similar to, if not exactly aligned, with your garden variety Obamacare terms... UNLESS... something gets changed in DC.

i actually thought it over and i subscribe to greenrebellion view.

now those who pose as rulers of the USA will spend their time bickering and fighting and will have less time to abuse and oppress americans

i never really believed trump could do anything remarkable. even assuming he was honest in his promises, which is a big assumption, the chances of achieving anything against the will of the whole government apparatus were zero.

this confirms my theory. the productive people will never have a voice as the parasites have invaded all power centers, and any rapresentative of the productive people will be destroyed, or made powerless, or will ultimately have to conform in order to survive.

I put a lot of the blame on Paul Ryan for the loss of the House. He had the chance to get some things that needed to be fixed and pissed it away. Too many House Reps are inside the beltway cronies do not like Trump and didn't want him to get credit fixing immigration and health care. They could have done a better tax bill as well as a good tax simplification and reform bill, but the DC cronies like their gravy train and losing control of the House is a small price to pay for big campaign contributions.

John McCain buried healthcare reform when he proudly snubbed Trump and his fellow Reps and voted NO. Mitch McConnell got lucky with the Dems shooting themselves in the foot with the lying pink-hat pussy parade making up stories about Brett Kavanaugh. Since Mitch "the Turtle" McConnell found a spine for once he saved his job in the Senate. I hope he gets replaced as Majority Leader, but it won't happen. Some how Lindsey Grahamnesty found a spine after his "friend" McCain assumed room temperature.

Trump has some blame with his unedited Tweeting and fighting stupid battles. He is in there shaking some things up, but he could have gotten more done. He has shown he can draw the crowds. His next test is this invasion caravan. If he stops it from entering the USA he should get re-elected.

Trump should start ramming healthcare and tax reform down the Dems throat once the new Congress convenes. The House Reps seem to be better fighting when they are in the minority. Trump should get a few of the House Reps that back him to introduce Tax simplification, Healthcare cost reform, and immigration and birthright citizenship reform in the House and let the House Dems trash and not pass it. He should have huge rallies showing they don't really care about the middle class surviving in this country.

Maxine, Jerry Nadler, and Adam Schiff are going to play to their shill base, waste a lot of time and taxpayer money, to issue subpoenas and have dumb hearings into the Russia scandal Mueller can't find any evidence Trump had any collusion with the Vlad and crew. The press will eat it up along with their loony base. Hopefully the majority of USA voters will see them for the loony toons they are and all their shill behavior will backfire on them. They will be back in the minority in 2020.

The new Attorney General should have investigations on the Dems (Hilliary, Bill, Kerry, Obama and crew) and their emails and treasonous deals with our enemies such as Iran and others.

Meanwhile Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg his trying to kill herself again trying to keep herself healthy. USSC Justice No. 3 may be closer on the horizon than we think.

Gridlock for Trump can be a good thing and he can be a savvy SOB if he wants. Hold on to your hats it will be a bumpy 2 years.
