Sorry, this one is a slam-dunk.

A lawsuit has pitted six landlocked states against Washington State over a simple question: Who owns the federal ports?

Washington State is denying the states the permits required to build a large coal export terminal along the Columbia River. The states have sued and Washington filed a motion for dismissal.

But U.S. District Court Judge Robert Bryan rejected Washington State’s motion, setting the stage for a legal showdown over who really gets final say over which products flow through the nation’s sea ports.

“We’re talking about the Constitution and the rule of law,” said Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, “One state can’t discriminate against another state’s commodities in this way.”

Washington state is flat-out wrong.

The Constitution prohibits states from penalizing, including by imposing tariffs or other similar measures including bans on transportation and similar, goods in interstate or international commerce.

“I think we’re on sound ground,” said Washington’s Democratic Governor Jay Inslee, “because we’re enforcing our environmental rules for clean air and noise and some other issues.”

No Jay, you're not.  The coal isn't being consumed in your state.  You simply don't want it to touch your state on the way through, which has no environmental impact.  If it wasn't coal but was fish, hogs, grain or something else, all of which go through your ports, you'd not complain.  Indeed you have ports now and they pass products.

This is black-letter in the Constitution; the Federal Government has sole authority to regulate interstate or international commerce.

**** off Jay.

I can envision a time where WA state would threaten to embargo all goods going to and from states that do not meet their progressive demands. They already boycott state government travel to certain states, now coal, and perhaps food in the future, to keep a state voting GOP, for instance.

I would think threatening to freeze the residents of a state by denying them fuel for electricity would be cause for .gov to put down this rebellion, instead of fighting a protracted legal case. I would enjoy the show if the other states just invaded that Prog paradise, even if only to liberate the eastern WA.

If China owned the port facilities, bribes would have already been paid and the coal transfer docks built by now.

This is EXACTLY why the "Commerce Clause" was placed in the Constitution. Spot on.

Drifter - I am shocked you would even think Jay Inslee and our other fine elected leaders would use their authority to do harm.....SHOCKED I tell you. You know OR would try and control the other half of the river. What a mess that would be.

I believe in order to stop outright idiocy like this, the smart people (we once had in this country) put Coast Guard is in charge of all navigable water ways within the U.S., but weed is legal in WA state. I think some of WA States law makers have been hitting the bong too much during work and they are now experiencing a Musk Moment.

Excuse me Mr Law maker are you always this stupid or are you just having a Musk Moment.....Oh I see, you are actually that stupid, but the pot just helps to enhance it.

The LEFT always think they know better. Their ego's are off the charts right now and they want to control everything. Just wait and see if they win the house or Senate and then the crap hits the fan. Their minions will feel empowered and the violence will soar. Should be interesting.
Did you see that Pima county in Arizona refused federal money to protect the borders simply because they don't agree with Trump's border policy. Video's of armed illegals crossing the border and they do nothing. The people making these decisions are completely blind to reality. Getting worse every week.

With apologies to anyone with someone special in their lives, I'm about to start a petition to rename this state "Full Retard".

democRats are generally morons, but Inslee proves time and time again he's near the bottom of the pile of idiocy.

A lazy, useless leftist idiot nobody's ever heard of, with fantasies of being President. Yep, true.

He specializes in avoiding hard choices and letting leftists run rampant.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance. - The Declaration of Independence

I think were on sound ground, said Washingtons Democratic Governor Jay Inslee...

When Democratic Governor started to think, he is telling everyone that someone pockets needed to be lined first; they never tells what they really think!

I think were on sound ground, said Washingtons Democratic Governor Jay Inslee - what a load of crap! I live in Washington State, and I quite frankly doubt whether Inslee is capable of even forming a truly rational thought. All of his mental power, such as it is, is spent trying to position himself as a possible Democrat candidate for the presidency. The guy is as dumb as a bunch of rocks, and that might be discrediting the rocks!
