So who's going to be held accountable for this one?

You know, that "Presidential" and "Severe" alert stuff on your phone -- especially the "Presidential" ones you can't turn off?  Somehow I suspect a ballistic missile, if it really is coming, fits into that category.

That is, if it's really coming.

But it wasn't.

Nonetheless someone sent it to everyone in Hawaii -- without first verifying that the threat was real.

Isn't it a serious felony to call in or communicate a false bomb threat?  Indeed it is.

What about when the false bomb threat is communicated by the government?

Where are the ****ing handcuffs?

Looking forward to the inevitable stern FCC press conferences, congressional bloviating and meaningless staff shuffles that will result.

Might even approach Janet Jackson boob exposure levels of FCC action.

According to CNN it seems the initial alarm was followed by a second one:

"It was a mistake made during a standard procedure at the change over of a shift, and an employee pushed the wrong button," he said.

The warning went out to television and radio as well as cell phones, Ige added.
Ige also tweeted that he is meeting with top defense and emergency management officials from the state "to determine what caused this morning's false alarm and to prevent it from happening again."

The governor's remarks come after Hawaii Emergency Management Agency Administrator Vern Miyagi headed to the agency's 24-hour operations center to find out why the false alert was sent out, according to an email to CNN.
"The warning was a mistake," Miyagi said.

A second emergency alert was sent to phones in Hawaii 38 minutes after the initial message confirming the false alarm.

CNN was told by a viewer in Hawaii that both the initial threat warning and the message of false alarm more than 30 minutes later came across the TV warning notification system.

Media comments about Trump having access to "the final button" are coming in 3 2 1 ... (not defending him, just saying ...)

This *COULDN'T* be as simple as "pushed the wrong button"

It has to be a little more complicated than that to trigger emergency alerts like this, or accidents would happen all the time. And they don't.

I'm beginning to think this failure was a little more scary than that and they just don't want us to know the facts. So dumb it down and make it "oops, somebody hit the big red button when they shouldn't have."

Yeah, like they really did think there was an incoming missile -- and only realized it was false after about a half-hour, which incidentally is about the time that if it's real you've already been incinerated.

Yup.

And at what level was it believed to be true? Just the emergency alert people? Lets hope that's the case, because if it was believed at higher levels... The rabbit hole gets a lot deeper.

Yeah, pushed the wrong button my ass. I highly doubt the system which sends those out is that simple.

Methinks there's more to the story...

Damn good thing it happened while markets were closed.

Big question: Would CNBC tell us to BTFD before the threat was discredited?
