Say Hello To "Four More Years" (Mittens-Ryan)

There are a few hard, fast rules in politics when you're playing on the top of the ticket.

The first is that picking someone that's dumber than a box-o-rocks may cost you the election, as the electorate may think about your untimely demise and whether they can live with the other party in the left seat.

The second is that picking someone who's smarter than you are isn't that good of an idea either, because then the electorate may wonder if they made the wrong choice for the top of the ticket.

And the third is that picking someone who's hated more than you are sometimes works politically, especially if you've got a bunch of rabid people who hate you (and who doesn't at this level of political activity?); their fire may be drawn to the VP pick.

Of course that can backfire and cause your opponent to concentrate his fire on you both.

That appears to be headed Mittens way with Paul Ryan as his running mate.

The Republican presidential candidate called his new running mate a man of  "steadiness" and "integrity." Speaking Saturday morning, Romney praised Ryan as  an "intellectual leader" of the party, one who understands the toll the debt is  taking on the country but is optimistic about the future.

Uh huh.  That would be nice if it was true.

Unfortunately it's a lie.

And Ryan is one of the liars-in-chief in the House.  If you need your memory refreshed may I recommend you read the following links:

here (discretionary budget, welfare reform, retirement security and more)
here (voted for and supported TARP)
here (Medicare, cost-shifting at gunpoint and more)
here (more Medicare lies)
here (Ryan's fraudulent -- for the second time -- budget proposal) and of course
here (Ryan's lies about the sequester ex-post-facto creating exemptions to it)

and that's just the last year or so of my coverage of this venomous, traitorous snake.

The problem with Ryan is that he's not a "conservative" at all.  Beyond the fiscal mess documented up above -- a mess he not only helped create but is promulgating and continuing, along with the explicit and implicit support of frauds up and down the line in our financial system via TARP and other schemes he also supports blatantly unconstitutional laws on top of it, including The Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps, retroactive immunity for telecommunications firms that broke the law on warrant requirements and more.

This is a man who literally wakes up and looks for a tiny as-yet-unused corner of the Constitution with which to wipe his ass after the obligatory morning stop on the commode.  Paired with Romney, who supported and signed a ban on guns that looked scary while governor of Massachusetts, to give Ryan the tie-breaking vote in the Senate is unthinkable.

This nation and her people need both a stick for our teeth and a good belt of whiskey, for indeed, given this "choice", here it comes.

Uber Right-wing, annoyingly white, white guy picks Uber Right-wing, white guy as running mate...too bad that combo only picks up ~30% of the vote.

If Mittens really wants to win, he needs to stop trying to energize/pick-up the vote of people that are already going to vote for him and start aiming more for those in the middle; especially apolitical women.

On the plus side..maybe...Ryan is Catholic...is that enough to appease the Religious elites faced with the prospect of a Mormon being the most powerful man on the planet? Don't underestimate religion in this. Christians (in my circle of voters anyway) are not thrilled with the idea of a Mormon being elevated to such a high level; but is that worse than 4 more years of Obama?...we'll see.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing "right wing" about the romnoid.
He IS Obama.

I'd say a Fourth Rule should be, "Don't be the same damned thing, or worse, as the guy you are running against."

In reality yes, perception no; perception combined with denial easily trumps reality.

Mittens and Ryan are the Great White Right Christian Saviors to dyed in the wool R's.

I understand and agree with what you are saying. Being practical, what other choice do we have? Even the libertarian candidate is disappointing.

Great, our next potential president made his living from distressed companies. Does this mean we should prepare to go massive short everything if he wins?

Sometimes I really hate it when I agree with Karl.

I may vote for Johnson so that the Libertarian candidate gets as many votes as possible. Right now it is either Johnson or candidate "B" on my ballot.

Actually, there's a hell of a lot of conservative and libertarian leaning people who cannot possibly vote for these fake pretenders.

Karl you are smarting than that. We all here on TF know that Ryan is just and Lyin Pol, but the sheeple are so stupid that they think he is the great fiscal conservative that he has so cleverly painted himself as.

This is not the nation of our grand parents. It is a nation of dumbed down ignoramuses. And that is being nice.

Our choices suck ass.

I especially hate that Ryan is portrayed as fiscally conservative, that ****ing*****es me off.

But Obama IS a marxist communist mother****er and it's so blatant and in-your-face I am COMPELLED to vote against him, so I will be voting for R&R..

Not my happiest reality, but it is what it is, so there it is.

I don't like Ryan one little bit. While I can respect anyone who tells oldsters they deserve less free ****, Karl's laid out clearly his other many flaws. Plus he's a sanctimonious prick.

Debtpie, whatever happened to judging people not by the color of the skin but by the content of their character? This isn't the first time you've railed against Romney for being Whitey McWhitenstein. If you find him wanting for character or policy reasons, fine (although your pledge to vote for Obama calls into question whether character matters one iota to you). What's Romney supposed to do, get some tats and act like Slim Shady? Pick a goofball like Jindal just so you feel there's a sufficient melanin quotient to the ticket? I find your comments pathetic and probably born of some overwrought white guilt.

Perhaps. What if the stock market declines 2000 or more? People might change their minds and vote for the Repubs after all.
edit: because the sheeple think Obama's policies caused the stock market to decline so the sheeple would for for Romney/Ryan hoping the market goes back up.
Sheeple are not very bright.

The best possible result might be deadlock over extending the Bush-Obama tax cuts, thereby assuring that tax rates go up on everyone - not just the "rich", deadlock over the payroll tax "holiday", so that it, too, goes away and deadlock that stymies Obama's desires for more spending. Unfortunately that would leave Obamacare & Dodd Frank in place, leave Obama to nominate more Kagans & Sotomayors (or maybe a blind transsexual double-amputee midget from Borneo so Debtpie will feel less guilty for being alive) and leave Obama to continue trying to run the country himself using the "We Can't Wait" clause of the constitution as his justification.

Damnit Karl here I was feeling good today after listening to Ryan's speech. Ryan speaks well and he is right about one thing and that is the time to turn this around has to be now. So what do you do but bring up a bunch of FACTS which I have to admit I forgot about. If Obummer gets 4 more years we are doomed and if Mitt/Ryan win and don't do what's necessary we are doomed and based on the facts you presented Mitt & Ryan will probably not perform based on all their past actions. One thing I do know is that with Obummer there is no hope but maybe just maybe Mitt/Ryan could change. It's all I can hope for at this point.

I am sickened by the usurpation we are seeing and allowing. However, I will show up and vote against Eric Holder and his co-enabler Obama.

This country is in a heap of trouble. I have two little old ladies, whom I love, living with me. I won't abandon them. It would be lovely to feel I had the option to set up housekeeping elsewhere, because I likely would get out. As is, our country's imperialistic attitude has set us up for a terrible fall. Bin Laden said that we could be destroyed by a financial collapse. IMO, we might be heading for another form of destruction. We have troop movements inside our country. We have foreign troops training on the soil of the continental United States in and near our cities. It is obvious they are training for urban warfare. Early reports of such urban training from ten years ago included information that lines of fire were being mapped out for various cities by US military. Lines of fire don't translate to cities in other countries or even other cities in the same state. Two or three months ago, there were exercises in Tampa of all places. This included helicopter drops over the water. We've been viewing Videopro's posts about Anaheim. There are troops in camo and no badges engaged in crowd control duty against protestors walking on sidewalks. The protestors are even working against themselves by being so profoundly inarticulate that, if they get a day in court, any judge or jury would almost certainly take more offense by their verbiage than by the tyranny on display by the governments.

For your viewing pleasure:

http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewvideo/....

I'll vote against the devils I know and keep working to improve our lot in case we still have a country four years from now.
