Phil Angelides Says It: STOP THE LOOTING / START PROSECUTING

Well look what we have here!

Meager resources have been applied to investigate the financial assault on our country, which wiped away trillions of dollars in household wealth and has resulted in 24 million people jobless or underemployed. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which Congress created to examine the full scope of the crisis, was given a budget of $9.8 million — roughly one-seventh of the budget of Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.” The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations did its work on the financial crisis with only a dozen or so Congressional staff members.

Despite their limited budgets, both inquiries turned over rocks and exposed disturbing financial practices, and both entities referred potential violations of law to the Justice Department.

Yep -- even when there was under-oath testimony, such as that from Citi Financial's former chief risk officer of knowing sale of garbage loans to investors, nothing was done about it.

As for the items turned over to the Justice Department I would have liked to have seen that list made public.  It wasn't, but it should have been in all of its glory.  After all, this inquiry was paid for with public funds.  We deserve to see the entire report and all referrals, don't you think?

No one should seek or condone prosecutions for revenge or political purposes. But laws need to be enforced to deter future malfeasance. Just as important, the American people need to believe that a thorough investigation has been conducted; that our judicial system has been fair to all, regardless of wealth and power; and that wrongs have been righted.

Indeed Phil.

I've wondered if we were ever going to get something more than a whitewash.

I wasn't impressed with the final report, as in my view it did not go anywhere near far enough.  But it is what it is, and it is also now history.

Nonetheless there's plenty there if anyone cares to go dig up the truth and complete the investigations necessary to develop that which will support indictments.

If anyone cares.

The American people should demand that our government, in fact, does care.

The distressing fact of the matter is that our government, in fact, does not care and our government has become a massive, ineffectual JOKE. These folks are bought and paid for. The country is ruled by the financial industry. Period.

We need 1,000,000 in the streets this spring.

Have you had enough yet, America?

What a weird concept...that laws have to be enforced.

here's a distinction. Americans are entitled to "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom of Assembly" and various other freedoms as enumerated in the Constitution.

Are they thus entitled to SEE OTHERS prosecuted when those rights are abridged?

Apparently not. We are not entitled to SEE illegal aliens deported when they violate border control law. We are not entitled to see the prosecution of crimes, the enforcement of laws.

Selective law enforcement. It's always been this way. Now it's just shoved up your ass and blatantly out in the open.

What is interesting here is that the author is Phil Angelides - the chief investigator for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. Whether that commission did a good job or not, is perhaps an open question - what is not open to question is the fact that the commission made an unknown number of criminal referrals to Justice where absolutely nothing has been done. Nothing. Angelides has got to know that this little missive is going to***** off Obama big time. The man was the Democratic chairman for California, California Treasurer, and ran for governor. He just took a dump in his president's punchbowl. He won't be asked to do any more work for the Admin., etc. In other words, Phil will pay a price for sounding this alarm. Are we listening?

Phil, I suspect, knows the math as I do and is well-aware of the ass-reaming that's headed for us at Warp 8.

You might not see it yet, but I assure you that it IS inbound.

Karl,

I have asked this question of you before a few years ago. What do you see as the state of things (economy/society) when this bubble of all bubbles pops? How bad will it get?

As an ethical parent do I teach my children and grand-children ethics?

As a responsible parent do I teach my children and grand-children survival skills?

It seems to me that ethics and survival skills may be at odds with one another in today's American environment. Most important for me is the survival of my lineage and why would I teach them to live ethically in an unethical world? If government continues to set bad examples they will eventually discover an ungovernable populace but one that knows how to survive governments brutal mishandling.

Other than perhaps not having had the idea yet, what is prohibiting a group of well funded and fed up citizens from founding the "Federal Indictment Commission(copyright)" {Federal - like FedEx of the FED} to insist that the law breakers get prosecuted? Even though there a couple organizations similar to this concept (http://libertylegalfoundation.org/, [http://art2superpac.com/),] their scope, funding and human resources are scarce.

Imagine, if you will, a nationwide, coordinated and well funded organization whose staff went to see the all of the elected or appointed officials in charge of actually dispensing and disseminating justice through the system by oath of office to demand and insist that justice be done. These people would essentially be lobbyists but the special interest would be We The People instead of corporations.

We the People hold the true power. The problem is that We the People have lost our sense of community. Very few folks want to stand up to .gov alone, especially if it is in front of a crowd, very few folks participate in local or state .gov, let alone fed gov. While I was thinking about this post, I remembered something from grade school civics (back when civics was an actual class) - America has a participatory form of government.

As Americans we have a right, a duty, an obligation and a responsibility to participate in all levels of government. Whether we are sovereign citizens or natural persons, at the end of the day We the People are accountable for the actions of our governments (local, state, fed). The time has come for us to exercise our authority over our governments and hold them accountable to their oaths of office to uphold the law and to prosecute the perpetrators and punish the guilty to the full extent of the law.

A national database that tracks allegations, indictments, prosecutions and sentences would be an excellent tool to use to point resources towards to ensure actions are taken.

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore" has been my motto for a long time. I write my congressclowns frequently and get form letter responses. Those clowns only care about money, power and reelection. What happens when people feel as if their government no longer represents their interests? Does "No Taxation Without Representation" sound familiar?

Time to stand up and show them who is in charge.

Most governments are going to go broke. If they print money to any great extent in relation to their debt, it will be worth toilet paper outside the country and goods will go to the moon. Karl has anwered this question over and over again. We will get a balanced budget whether we want one or not.
