I'm sure he knew the risk, yet he made the video anyway.

Are there enough people willing to risk it?

The video has now been semi-censored by Youtube, where you have to log in to see it now. That effectively kills it from going viral on social media sites.

I noticed there were only metal detectors at the two airports I went through recently - one of which was LGA, which as I recall formerly had both types of machines. I read some of the travel blogs, it seems many of these machines are being removed, or at least not used. I hope that is a result of the "opt-out" movement.

Since the nudoscope/radiation machines were first installed, I always "opted out" (sometimes loudly) on principle. The privacy issue is my main objection to the bull****, but the reason I was prepared to verbalize is medical: I do not want any unnecessary radiation, since I've had some abnormal growths removed in the past few years (true). I can handle being patted down and allowed sufficient time, never missed a flight because of it. I never got "groped" although I did encounter some aggressive control-freak TSA agents with bad attitudes - I simply reiterated my objection civilly until they handled it my way.

I opted out for business trips as well as personal ones, though I seldom fly anymore, it's just so unpleasant. I finally acquired a no-underwire bra and did not set off the medical detector on my most-recent trip.

Monday, one of the signs made me laugh out loud, it said "Thank you for participating in security." As if!

From watching the vid, you could tape a packet of c4 under one arm and a firearm on the other side... I feel so safe.

Terrorism is the money bomb for law enforcement, and law enforcement is not going to let that die.

I remember a few years ago while vacationing in Europe, the wife and I were departing Majorca to fly to Barcelona. The security checkpoint consisted of a single metal detector looking like it had been left outside in the rain for many seasons. The security officer had his legs propped up on the counter while smoking a cigarette reading the local rag. That metal detector was beeping and buzzing like R2-D2 in Star Wars as most of the airline passengers crossed through it. Reaction from security: zip, zilch, nada. Number of reported “terrorist” problems at Majorca = zilch.

The American government is a bunch of magicians. As long as they can cast the illusion, in this case via TSA, of the practice and policy of safety the sheeple will buy it hook, line and sinker. It doesn’t matter that individual liberties are being stripped to the bone.

Government also does the same thing to hide the impacts of unemployment and cover-up the depression by issuing electronic food stamps. Imagine how far the line would stretch at the soup kitchens if 50 million have to show up.

At my local airport, you can usually put yourself into a line with a metal detector if you look far enough ahead.

When directed to the body scanner (twice now), I have opted out and my wife has as well. We take the search with as good humor as possible under the circumstances.

I CANNOT believe they run kids and pregnant women through those things. It makes me cringe to see that.

I know of little the Gov't does, aside from tax collection, that doesn't become a fuster-cluck. I just came back from a pleasure trip to southwest Florida, where I drove the 1,050 miles both ways, at considerably more cost than flying. I wish more people would do so & maybe the airlines (after losing the revenue) would convince CONgress to put a stop to this tomfoolery. Cheers.

Reason: wrong use of adjective considerable

Yes. I agree the metal detectors could be brought back but the scanners will never leave. That would be admitting failure. Unfortunately, the average American won't see this video and still believes we are safer to have the body scanners, body searches, and the Patriot Act. I have college educated relatives that believe we are safer and don't mind that they have to use the body scanner or that their phone calls may be monitored by Big Brother. All in the name of safety. We need the TSA and Patriot act for our security. Blah, blah, blah. I have talked my self blue in the face about these issues to no avail. We are dealing with true ignorance. Just like most people believe the bailouts were needed. I'm afraid less than 5 percent of Americans have a clue. Might even be 1 percent. The sheeple believe everything they hear on TV. No questions asked.

How 'bout ya print the youtube url on some stickies...like the ones for your address labels, and stick the damn things all over the next airport security area you visit...I suggest the last bathroom just before the checkpoint will be a good place.

It's the top story on WFAA.com (ABC 8 in Dallas)
Quote:
The TSA calls Corbett's video a crude attempt to circumvent security. The government wouldn't say what its machines can or cannot detect, but said the capabilities are under constant review.

"Imaging technology has caught many items, large and small," the TSA continued, "and it's one of the most effective tools available to detect metallic and non-metallic items."

I guess we can thank John Mica for creating the TSA, his self-described "bastard child."

Old, but another take on fooling the scanners.

Blog by former FBI Special Agent, more on the TSA incompetence, back scatter equipment etc.

http://gmancasefile.blogspot.com.au/2012....

Quote:
The report goes on to state that the virtual strip search screening machines are a failure in that they cannot detect the type of explosives used by the “underwear bomber” or even a pistol used as a TSA’s own real-world test of the machines. Yet TSA has spent approximately $60 billion since 2002 and now has over 65,000 employees, more than the Department of State, more than the Department of Energy, more than the Department of Labor, more than the Department of Education, more than the Department of Housing and Urban Development---combined. TSA has become, according to the report, “an enormous, inflexible and distracted bureaucracy more concerned with……consolidating power.”

Quote:
...I was bypassing screening (again on official FBI business) with my .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a TSA officer noticed the clip of my pocket knife. "You can't bring a knife on board," he said. I looked at him incredulously and asked, "The semi-automatic pistol is okay, but you don't trust me with a knife?" His response was equal parts predictable and frightening, "But knives are not allowed on the planes."
