Simply, stunningly unbelievable. What did they think they were elected to do ?
After a betrayal like this, politicians will need to find some other way to pull the wool over the eyes of the masses.

They will rebel - eventually.
The implications of the betrayal by the political class need to sink in, and someone needs to articulate an alternative.
This will take a while yet.

Screw peaceful protests. Oil up the ****ing guillotines and off with their heads, they don't seem to be using them much anyway.

Wow - just wow.
That said, the (relatively few) people I know in Ireland don't treat The Independent (or it's companion paper in the UK) as a reliable source. My own experience of the UK version is that it's rather substantially left of center (reading about events in the paper I was actually at left me thinking I and the reporter were witnessing different events - and barely on the same planet).
Such a stunning sell-out and betrayal wouldn't be surprising of course, but it might be useful to wait and see precisely whether the deeds of the New Irish Gubermint are in fact the same as the Old Irish Gubermint.

I am not surprised by anything anymore.
Well I do take that back.
I am surprised the USA citizens are asleep as USA burns.
How can certain politicians, namely certainly American politicians act surprised as they advocated then wrote legislation for all this crap to occur. Then these certain politicians have the unmitigated gall to never mention what they did and don't want others to mention what they did. These certain politicians want to blame others for the failed policies of a certain administration.
When will the public stop being enamored with millionaire Charlie Sheen. By the time they wake, they won't like what is in their reality.
When will the politicians be honest??
When will America get honest and ethical with the citizenry.
When will the citizens demand honesty and integrity?
When?
How can America ask integrity of Ireland, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, and a host of other countries when our government is filled with corruption, cronyism, lying, obfuscation, deception, cheating, fraud?
When will we take a page from Egypt?
When?
We are Egypt

Sorry Karl, this needs to happen to keep US ports competitive with the rest of the world. Americans do not need to be held hostage through the monopolized US ports.
Fact, the Longshore and harbor workers act creates two classes of US citizens. Harbor workers and everybody else. It cost two or three times as much to provide a longshoreman workers comp than it would if it were covered under state acts. This tax is past on to the rest of US citizens who have their goods imported.
What do you call it when (in the boom years) the Union offers openings for 1000 workers and 300k apply? We call that grossly over paid. Yet this monopoly tax is foisted off on the rest of average Americans.
The Longshore union has a local called Ship Scalers Union. How many ship scaler companies in the ship scaling union? Zero Yet if you try to paint a ship, the Longshoremen will stop work claiming it is a Longshoremans job. That means they will threaten to shut down the unloading operations. This costs American jobs.
The only way to free Americans from this monopolistic tax on Americans and open US cargo up to Mexican ports and let the longshoremen and others eat the lunch they served themselves.

I hope the people of Ireland stand up for themselves. Perhaps an event over there could be a model or inspire us Americans when our time to stand comes.
Good catch on this article Karl. I really can't find anything on the net concerning the 180 stance coming out of Fine Gael/Labour coalition Government.
Seems like the Irish don't know they've been screwed and bent over by Fine Gael yet.
Should be an interesting week ahead with the planned day of anger in Saudi Arabia. We could see buck-ten a barrel this week.
I just love it when the bankers grand plans go to hell in a hand basket...

Thank you KD!
This time is one that historically parallels The Thirty Years War. TPTB ran this bubble to the end, and it took 30 years, and now, we shall enter a 30 years war time, parallel to what happened in the 1600's.

Quote:Simply, stunningly unbelievable. What did they think they were elected to do? Oh c'mon. This was hardly unbelievable. It was completely expected, and in fact, there were murmurs of this even in the mainstream media before the elections took place. That it was just a bunch of grandstanding and that the incoming jerks were "limited" in what they could do. Big surprise, they're not going to do ****. Banksters rule the world. Again.

I don't think it was COMPLETELY expected. I'm pretty sure the electorate made their feelings on the matter known well in advance of the voting. That the politicians barely in office are going to completely ignore that sentiment is what is ...interesting.

THERE WILL BE NO PITCHFORKS IN IRELAND
The Irish people do not have the fight, and don't even know how badly screwed they are getting!!!
hi I'm from Ireland and new to this forum
Although it is good to see Fianna Fail to get punished for selling the irish people down in the river, there is almost no chance Ireland will take Iceland's lead and tell the banksters to go to hell.
Irish politicans do not have the guts, the people of Ireland are surprisingly clueless as to what action should be taken and are also scared and don't quite understand how badly screwed they are getting. The paid for media onslaught of how it would be financial 'armageddon' if ireland were to default on it's debts has worked to perfection.
It is not a coincidence that ireland has not rioted like Greeece and so many other countries aroung the world who are getting screwed have (and we dont have guns btw). There is an attitude that 'we must just do the best we can' and 'not complain' it's a strong part of the irish psyche. Although at times this psyche can be good, right now it just seems as if ireland is rolling over without a fight.
People would largely think that a return to the punt would be 'a step back' and other such silly media programmed nonsense.
Regardless of who is in power, the banksers can sleep safely, it will be business as usual and ireland will continue to be a 'good little slave' for the banking cartels
Of course i do hope i am proven wrong

Peope here (ireland) wont' be outraged, that's the hilarious thing!!
People here are so petrified that we think that fine gael have no other choice!!!
and that we will be lucky if the IMF give us a better deal!!
This is the reality on the ground here in ireland
Some people seem to think that ireland will explode like greece or worse if they keep pushing us, that's not the reality here unfortunatley, we rolled over and there is no 'pent up anger about to explode' anytime soon

This is all very true but why is capitalism suddenly seem as a threat.
If an American entrepreneur find a way to have a Mexican partner to produce a better or cheaper mouse trap - this seems OK but when it is a cheaper truck or lower cost sea-port - this is wrong ?
The solution seems simple: By law the Mexican firms must switch to American trucks and American fuel at the border. But this will require "bigger government" to supervise all this.
So no solution is as simple as it may seem. Could it be that the mexicans be made to pay for the extra government work ?

It's not cheaper - it's the age-old subsidized model.

Yaldor wrote..The solution seems simple: By law the Mexican firms must switch to American trucks and American fuel at the border. But this will require "bigger government" to supervise all this. No, it's not. If it's acceptable to allow Mexican truckers operate without following all the regulations American truckers are subject to then it's acceptable for Americans to operate without following them as well. Throw those rules out and let everybody compete on a level playing field. The solution to the government using the force of law to create a privileged class is not more government - the answer is less government.

What happens when a Mexican Trucker Kills an American?
Do they go to jail or get sued, or do they have "special status"?
Wait for it; states will ban anyone who doesn't have a CDL from operating within their borders. The feds and states will get involved, meanwhile you polarize people further.
The Irish are not one to stand for this kind of betrayl, historically or otherwise. They'll burn these men at the stakes, mark my word.

If (rate of inflation) * (total unencumbered currency) > (total unencumbered currency) per year; the difference is guaranteed to default per year. Covering the difference via debt causes exponential inflation; Interest reaches unsaleable levels, monetary base contracts, then collateral values and banks collapse.

The Irish have no other source of funding than the ECB for its banks and the IMF/EU for providing government with funds to hand out and keep the bureaucracy running. Government is only alive and well as long as it can keep hand outs flowing.
No surprise at all here. The Irish do not have an alleged independent FED to monetize its deficit and keep its financial sector in business by printing money, so how could anyone possibly believe that a new Irish government would start by saying: 'Look, guys, we know you are the ones that keep us in business but we don't want you to do that anymore?'
Of course the newly elected Irish government will have to pretend that all is new but that is a well known feature of popular elections - for instance you promise hope & change, and you will always deliver on those two, as everyone may hope, and change is the only thing that is absolutely sure to happen ... as the French say: plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

On the Mexican truckers, i find it funny that the same favor is not extended to illegal immigrants or is it if they are driving an 18wheeler?

Now, this may be a way of uprising outsmarting pitchforks: "A small town in northern Spain has decided to reintroduce the old Spanish currency - the peseta - alongside the euro to give the local economy a lift." That is to say - people simply decide to reintroduce the currency that was abandoned in favor of the EURO by the European elites ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-1....
