Jim Grant: "Everyday Low Prices" Ending

Jim Grant gets this right: Bernanke is telling you that what you do every weekend - go out into the marketplace looking for low prices - is something he intends to destroy.

READ THAT AGAIN: HE INTENDS TO TAKE "FALLING PRICES" - WALMART'S ENTIRE BUSINESS MODEL - AWAY FROM YOU ON A PERMANENT BASIS!

Listen around 5:00 in here - if this doesn't explain how you are going to get screwed by QE2 in a form you can understand nothing will.

Absolutely NO ONE I know at work cares about ANY of this.

My response - save like a mad man. If MONEY is what people want - the government, politicians, banks, bosses, unions....THEY DON'T GET MINE. Starve the beast doesn't even begin to describe how I handle money lol.

I encourage EVERYONE who is incensed at QE 2.0 to protest by cutting cable (at least some channels), cutting minutes (or cell phone entirely), or having a no-gift Christmas. Let other rubes waste their cash.

Funny, I cut my cable Tv last month.

I had to explain to my 9 year old what that funny little box with the big dial sitting next to the Tv was used for. You know, the ones with N E S W

Karl,

FYI - if something you want a reader to see in a video is at say 5 minutes, then modify the youtube imbed code by adding "&start=x" where is number of seconds where you want the video to start. Do it in the 2 places I've demo'd below.

value="[url http://www.youtube.com/v/4MrJyxSpJE8?fs=1&hl=en_US&start=300">

src="[url http://www.youtube.com/v/4MrJyxSpJE8?fs=1&hl=en_US&start=300"

Grant, "(prime farmland dollar/acre) IT IS OVER 9000"
I could not resist.

Bernanke intends to do nothing less than saturate the globe with cheap easy dollars.
Hold strong, my plebes, in time the benefits will wash back to the US. smiley

Having followed him just a little more than casually for many years, Jim Grant is one pretty smart guy.

I like how he said [paraphrasing] "...Just because you contribute to a book about the depression doesn't give you the right to print half a trillion dollars...."

Given the choice of:

High unemployment/low inflation or

High unemployment/high inflation

What sane person would ever choose the latter?

Told a Aussie bud of mine who was AMAZED, the Aussie dollar is now par with USD. It'll all start to unwind again when oil hits 150+ again. Global trade will grind to a halt, and the next stage of the depression will begin.

Since Karl has asked to keep down rhetoric here. The best way to get through to people, is energy. Its something everyone can relate to and notice immediately. Everyone has equal stake in, and everyone understands how important it is.

Call the rise in oil, and draw down what the true source of the increase is. The 2007-2008 spike in oil was spun off as speculators gone wild, but no one really focused on where the money came from in the first place.

Nows the time to make that connection.

DXY below $74 will trigger it. Rising oil is nothing but a function of the devalue of the dollar with Treasury printing. Once the dollar, the world's peg, takes a gigantic poop, it's game over. Almost there.

Meanwhile, on my local news, they did a canned report on rising prices for groceries. They blamed it on increased demand from China - not one word on the devaluation of the dollar.

"protest by cutting cable (at least some channels), cutting minutes (or cell phone entirely), or having a no-gift Christmas. Let other rubes waste their cash"
Mayor, it's going to take much more than that.I started cashing my IRA in 2007.I finished last year.Less of a tax hit that way.I have no cable,no cell phone,no car payment,no credit cards, grow my own veggies, and I don't buy anything.I do however, save money for the kids Christmas presents,to buy in cash.I live in the proverbial "cracker box" that I bought 18 years ago.1380 sq ft for a family of five.I didn't buy into the "need" for a bigger home.
I've starved the beast as much as I can,but in the end,it doesn't matter now. With Ben raising the prices on stuff I NEED,like gas and food, not to mention the stuff that uses oil in one way or another, I'm STILL having a hard time saving and I make more than most in my area.
God help those that didn't see this coming starting around 2005-2006.

Even with all the money printing, isn't it highly likely we'll see a meteoric rise in the dollar at some point in a second sweeping deflationary phase before a Wiemar scenario?

Has there ever been a case where a country was hopelessly in debt, printing money like mad, but deflation still took hold and the currency strengthened? Japan?

I suppose the difference is that oil is denominated in dollars, is that the point?

RIGHT HERE is an EXCELLENT opportunity to trot down to the nearest WalMart, speak to the management about this issue, and pass out flyers to the customers as they enter the store:

IF THE FEDERAL RESERVE GETS ITS WAY YOU WILL NO LONGER GET YOUR LOW PRICES AT WALMART.

THIS is EXACTLY the kind of trigger that could serve to wake up the slumbering masses.

NOBODY has got time to sit and listen to hours of videos. LOW PRICES is one thing that just about EVERYBODY understands.
