Now Seniors Get To Feel The Bezzle

If you remember just a short while ago I reported on what certainly appears to be a very clumsy scam pulled by the BLS in their so-called "inflation" reading published on the 19th of February - where the numbers they presented simply didn't add up, and as a consequence put forward a false CPI, or inflation number.

Curiously, we haven't heard anything from the BLS on this "error".

This, of course, is only an "error" in that it is not the actual means by which the BLS is "supposed" to report "inflation."

But the BLS has twice in the last 30 years revised their methodology, both times with the intent of understating "inflation."

Why?  Well, a big part of the reason is that the law says that various benefit programs are supposed to be indexed to inflation.  By intentionally understating inflation Senior Citizens and others on various fixed-income entitlement programs funded by government get intentionally screwed.

The Senate yesterday rejected a $250 one-time check to Seniors and others who have been so-screwed for the last two decades:

President Barack Obama has called for Congress to approve the payments to make up for their benefits not increasing this year, but the Senate defeated it 50 to 47.

....

Social Security payments for the elderly and disabled will stay flat this year for the first time since 1975 because they are tied to consumer prices, which decreased amid the worst economic recession in 70 years.

Of course the real problem doesn't lie here.  As is usually the case the media won't talk about the fact that the current inflation rate, if measured under the "old" methodology, never went anywhere near zero.

How much does this "count"?  Tremendously so.  Over a ten year time frame understating inflation by 7% results in your Social Security payments being half of what they would otherwise be.  If the understatement is by just 3% you get a 35% underpayment at the end of a ten year period.

Of course what the media reports is the "one time" payment was rejected, but what they don't report is that seniors have been screwed for three decades by intentional book-cooking in the government.

And by the way - no, there is no possibility of the government "fixing this" and paying what the law says they should.  The money doesn't exist.

But this scam, along with dozens of others, is how our fabulous government managed to run its Ponzi Scheme for as long as it has - a Ponzi that is now collapsing, irrespective of what you're being told by the vacuous bobbing heads on national television.

If you're a senior and been paying "membership dues" to AARP, you might want to ask them why their much-vaunted "lobbying" and "public education" campaigns haven't focused on this for the previous 20 years - and why they sold you down the river.

Hope you like your kids (and they like you) Seniors, because the government tit is rapidly running dry.

I tried to talk to some Friends a week or two ago about this.

I was treated like the biggest ******* for bringing it up.

Considering that until just recently nearly all senior citizens received significant more money from Social Security than they ever put in to the system (with interest), maybe the scammers are getting scammed.

I'm 53 and will not be counting on social security to exist at all - This is truly a clear case of one of the boiled frog syndrome.... Seniors slowly became more and more reliant on SS for retirement as politicians used the increases as vote getters

I agree with 2banana. Why should today's senior citizens get anything when tomorrow's won't?

Same here. I spoke to a couple of higher ups, at their request, about the Federal Reserve, inflation, and fractional reserve banking.

Their response? "Tinfoil conspiracy theory". Hmm. All of that stuff is extremely well documented and factual.

I think people call something a 'conspiracy theory' if they don't like the info or if the info threatens their reality and beliefs, regardless of facts.

People will accept that the gov lies, but there are certain things that they think the government was 100% truthful about and anyone who challenges that is labeled tin and thus ignored.

It's everywhere in this country and I think our media perpetuates this mindset.

Me, once I've been lied tom, I tend to be extremely skeptical of anything that issues from the mouth of the liar. ANYTHING.

The $13 trillion was balance sheet fakery.

$13 billion is actual cash and has to exist.

Do you get it yet?

I suspect we're already playing that game. The winning strategy is to make sure that everyone with a position you've unwittingly taken on all the risk for sits down, and then to sit down yourself.

We've lost a couple rounds so far.

Be nice to your kids because they are your old folks' home - and they don't have to open the door.

Maybe you should have thought of that before you butt****ed your kids and grandkids by demanding government spending that couldn't possibly be met, eh? smiley

Tesla, I've been telling my parents the same thing for years now, but they refuse to cooperate. They simply refuse to retire. They are active and healthy seventy-three-year-olds who still enjoy what they do. Perhaps just the knowledge they can walk away any day they want to is enough for them. They aren't tour the country in a motor home types. All the kids and grandkids live within twenty minutes, so they aren't moving to The Villages or Arizona. And they both remember my grandfather who retired at 65 flush with cash and just "sat on his ass in front of the television until he died." My grandfather lived 27 long years after he retired and he was bored, grumpy, and did absolutely nothing productive all those years.

I always thought it would be a 'bond market dislocation' that would cause .gov to bounce some checks (or not issue them). It sounds like they're damn near out of actual, spendable funds NOW. So ALL of these billions and trillions being tossed around for 'bailouts' are really just debt 'promissary' type crap?? I knew they were...but haven't thought about the timing of when it would become obvious that we're broke.

Answer: When you can't/won't shell out $13 billion to the entitlement class that actually votes.

I've been thinking about how much tax receipts must ACTUALLY be down due to REAL unemployment. Is our Uncle Sam about to say: "Well, that was a fine dinner we just enjoyed....heh, does anybody have any cash on them? I seem to have lost my credit card."

p.s. Mad props to johnny crab for the Schopenhauer quote...'father of pessimism' wasn't he? Shame on you....think positive...lol

**** the government and **** the younger generations. Anytime the govt wants to give me back the 16% I paid in for 50 years self employment with interest and leave me alone I'll do just fine. And for the younger generation they should have had to start work at 9 years old earning their own money like most of us did. NO way in hell the spoiled little ****s will take care of their parents. Most everybody I know who has kids under thirty they are living at home and still sucking off the parents or grandparents.

Most people I grew up with fought all the time to keep the govt under control but we had every ****ing ******* in the world telling us we couldn't deny the little ****s anything. Hell you got them screaming about how many are on welfare and going hungry and at the same time they are all to damn fat. **** it!

Well my 9 kids and 19 grandkids didn't and won't grow up like that.

Randy....Jubilee will come indeed. BUT, it won't be felt at the level where we sit. It will be saved for all the governments around the world. THey will forgive each others debts and look to collect at home, what they could not colect abroad. More taxes for the rest of us to pay for the sins of the world.

You're not going to get any of it.

It was not "paid in", it was a pure tax.

That you failed to comprehend this despite multiple court decisions over those fifty years saying exactly this is nobody's fault but yours.
