From what I have read, AMD performance will also be hit to patch the Intel exploit.
Not if Tom Lendacky's kernel patch is any indication. It omits setting the "CPU bug" flag if the vendor is AMD, which keeps the "PTI" feature flag from being set, which keeps the code from being patched at runtime to implement the feature.
You can still turn the feature on with a kernel command-line option ("pti=on"), even on AMD chips. That would be a good way of benchmarking the typical performance loss for a specific load.
I don't know what Microsoft's Windows patches look like, but I'd hope they do the same thing.
