3) Gag the damn low-fat doctors and actually do real science about diet, obesity, metabolism etc. I personally would love to know why my couch-potato bro-in-law can eat pounds of carbs 5 times a day and never gain an ounce, while I have a snack-size bag of popcorn a day and will put 5 lbs on in a week.
Actually there is some good research going on these days, you just never hear about it unless you hang out at the low carb blogs.
And as for why some people can eat carbs and some can't, the obvious answer is that you're insulin resistant (whether due to genetics or long term carb abuse) and your brother in law isn't (yet?). And it's people like your BIL who are most likely to say "eat less and move more" because they view themselves as paragons of virtue - they're slender and you're not. Instead of understanding that they won the genetic jackpot they like to view themselves as morally superior. It isn't true, they just got lucky.
