My hairdresser told me last week that about 50% of the households on her block have stopped paying their mortgages. When they all get together for parties, her neighbors reveal that they have lived in their homes for at least two years without making a single mortgage payment. Some are unemployed and others have jobs but decided to stop paying. She tells me that they laugh at her for continuing to pay her mortgage.
