I am not going to get into defending what some perceive to be "disrespect" towards my mother. I used her as an example. I am around she and her friends a lot and to a person they want everyone else to take a hit except for them. They vote Republican because Republicans promise to keep their "benefits." Frankly, I don't think anyone is "entitled" to anything regardless of how much you paid in. Until we reach the point where people are willing to accept that simple fact nothing will change. The word "entitlement" carries a lot of hidden meaning, but you take what you get and nothing more. People who don't pay anything but expect to receive something feel entitled and it happens at the top and the bottom. Don't kid yourselves. How many people on this board that receive social security retirement would be willing to reduce their take by 50% and take on a part-time job, live on less or tap their 401k more? I didn't think so. I am 57 and have worked all my life. I won't receive a dime from social security in 10 years. Not one dime. But ask the people who receive it now if they would take less so the system would stay solvent a little longer and you will get a blank stare. 2011-08-21 19:43:07
