I am not behind in my mortgage, nor is my home particularly large or likely to be underwater any time soon. I paid 105K 16 years ago and the current balance is about 50K. I am seriously thinking of bringing a quiet title suit for my deed of trust, then contacting the credit bureaus notifying them to properly list my loan as an unsecured promissory note. Of course, this will increase my unsecured debt to income ratio, probably precluding my getting credit anytime soon. I wonder of the writer of my (unused) HELOC would help me, as they would move up in priority of claim on my house (provided they kept my HELOC in-house).
