Gen, well thought out and well stated!

You know... I could expand my small business, hire workers to generate more income for myself and others, open more spaces at antique malls to generate even more profit, and start doing antique/collectible shows to further increase my gross and profits. But... all of these actions would directly or indirectly provide more income to Uncle Sammy, and the only way to wean Uncle off his gluttonous appetite for more money is to starve the beast. Having been in business for myself for the last 14 years, I know what income levels trigger various increases in taxable income, B & O taxes, and reporting requirements, so I consciously stay just below those levels. I take advantage of all legal business deductions... car mileage, food and rental costs, supplies used in business, and so forth. And no... I don't live in a cardboard box under an overpass. Being smart in business, yet still starving the beast, can provide comfortable and enjoyable living.

I value time with friends and family, my health, my interest in doing the antiques thing, road trips, playing sports, my church time, being a musician, doing historical research, and the pleasure of being in business for myself far more than generating extra income for a government that is extremely addicted to control, power and money.
