How heartless? What if you were mistaken on them concealing info from you? Wouldn't it have been better for you to have them take the day off and get one of your trusted aides to give a "second opinion"? I just imagine some hardworking breadwinner with a bunch of mouths to feed having to tell the kids "no Christmas" because Karl got upset over nothing. I sure hope you did some due diligence and gave them a chance to own up to their mistakes, have integrity, work hard and be productive. Turnover is a very expensive business cost .... especially when you let people go involuntarily.
