anecdotal observation....

went to a small, high end mall in STL (visiting family) with a neiman marcus, saks as anchors...williams sonoma, pottery barn, j. crew, some high end jewelry stores, etc...

the high men's clothier was closed ....this was on a friday night at 6:00 pm...saks closed it's doors at 7 p.m......now you would *think* these stores would try to remain open at night (especially weekends) i walked through saks and it was absolutely empty....the parking lot was relatively full, but it seems everyone was there dining (2 excellent restaurants there) but no one was shopping...(guess they're all spending down at WMT <g>)we were the only people in pottery barn and williams sonoma.....i won't go into the number of empty storefronts and other commercial buildings we saw on the way....much too depressing
