I had an African passed out on the lawn in front of our office today. Maybe 25 y.o. Not an African American.

Early staff arrives around 6:30, they called 311 for a welfare check. No one showed.

I arrived at 7:45, guy appeared to not be breathing, had a bleeding bump on his head. I went out and checked on him, was joined by several school moms who'd dropped their kids off nearby (we're across an arterial from an elementary school.) He did not appear to be breathing. I called 911, two school Moms checked for pulse, eventually found one on his carotid but not wrists.

A few minutes later FD parameds showed up, then fire truck then ambulance. During this time he was eventually roused, could barely speak any English at all. Did not know what state he was in, could provide his first name only. Paras and ambulance crew checked his BP and EKG which was a mess (I'm not a doc but I know a F'd up EKG when I see one). Eventually packed him up and took him to one of the hospitals and I'm sure eventually detox. He was decently dressed, pink oxford shirt, Dockers, new shoes. He could've been right out of a shelter with new clothes for all we know.

I spoke with the FD crew, they said they would've liked to have just brought out the detox van but they'd already hit their monthly overtime and weren't allowed to accrue any more. It's the 13th of the month.

This one wildly drunk man (half gallon of Malibu rum, fifth of some other vile drink, we found his bottles after he was roused) required the response of six FD employees, one Cop Shop volunteer and an ambulance....for almost an hour.

Pretty much the whole time, I was thinking, WTF did this just cost me and my community? And how many more times will you be a suck on civilization?

@Tsherry -- first mistake was calling 311, wellness check, 911, a Priest, whatever. Just leave them there until they stink, get up on their own or cause some trouble which is then fixed with self-help. I have been a proponent of this for decades, and curiously, up until rather recently here people did not appreciate my approach. My how the attitude and tune have changed.

See the Narcan BS and helping addicts was something they could not reject as many of their White, native family and friends were also screw-ups due to the bullshit and fucked-up priorities of the overall country and people's families. I disagree with the ordering of priorities. For far too long foreign enemies have been killed en masse, whilst domestic enemies have been treated with kid gloves. Americant politicos and politicians should suffer decimation before foreign murders. Unlike Boobus Americanus, the Brazilian killer has proven to be cunning and dangerous. He should be employed to select a crack group of his kind to go and hit a high profile target in a month or less. This operation would be similar to the assassinations of Bonnie and Clyde. The latest appropriate target would be that Americunt guvernur in New Mexico. The incentive for the Brazilian killers to succeed in the task are one way tickets to south of the border. Failure or deviation from task would result in being shot on sight.
