Of course that's fraud, but nobody cares about fraud -- and hasn't for 30 years when it comes to education; they take the money, they take the salaries and then they issue a credential that doesn't even require showing up -- just the passage of time.

It's all bull**** and the entire CPS edifice should have been shot 30 years ago. If you either can't or won't do the work then if you got nothing I could actually rely on it to mean something.

I have a National Merit award on my wall (still) which was generated from my PSAT score. I had to actually show up, take the test and get the score to get that. It means something for that reason. In addition my diploma wasn't issued by a paper mill; if you earned an "F" you got one, and that was that.

Yes, I remember being terrified of the stories of students being held back. I wouldn't have wanted the teacher to report anything adverse to my parents.

Now, I'd bet that never happens and that the kids don't even know it is a possibility.

Here's the other thing that goes along with it: Where is it better to get the "F" and the consequence? In school or afterward when trying to earn a living?

Obviously, the former. It might motivate you. If it doesn't motivate you then you're no worse off for having gotten it. If it DOES motivate you then you're materially better off.

If you get it LATER you wind up in the street when you can't make the rent.

Invisiblesun...as a former teacher at an inner city Detroit public school, I was told over and over and over that I had no business teaching black children as I didn't understand their culture or the proper way to teach them. Really? I didn't understand how to teach math, reading, history, etc etc? Detroit is another school district that had a high per-capita spending per student. To this day, I don't have a clue as to where the money went. It certainly didn't go to maintain the schools. I taught 4rd grade. My text books were for 8th graders. They books were over 10 years old. Children ate their lunches on the gym floor because they didn't have a lunch room with tables or chairs. The only extra curriculum class offered was computers using very outdated computers that rarely worked. I had a 13 year old student (she turned 14 right after Christmas) who refused to do any classwork because she was planning to be a famous model. Oh and I had at least a half dozen boys who planned to be either an NBA or NFL player. So, teaching wasn't even as much fun as pulling teeth. But, I never had to worry about kids being late. Their favorite pastime was arriving early and watching the prostitutes walk home. smiley

For as long as I've been working there have been women in the workforce, many in management or senior management positions. Nearly all of them were clearly affirmative action hires to "right the wrongs of the past" or some **** like that.

These chicks are unbearable to work for too. Rich Cooper's "Dating Professional Women" is a must watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CVm9Mbr....

The video is posted not to encourage you to date a professional women, rather, to know what the red flags of these nutcases are and how you will be affected if she becomes your boss. Drug use, alcohol, hormone fluctuations, menopause, these girls are CRAZY.

This is also why I know longer vote for any female politician.

Speaking of public education reminds me of the lady in Atlanta who claimed to have "closed the gap" in raising school performance of what are euphemistically called "urban" schools up to the suburban levels of performance. This lady (I forget her name) was in the limelight for a number of years. Then, it came out that the standardized tests the kids were given in her district were all faked and that teachers were paying paid overtime to fill out the tests themselves! I believe this lady is doing a stint in prison for fraud.

Otherwise I am very excited about the tiny remote possibility that the "free" market might actually have a chance to shine forth here. As with I'm sure many of us here, I think that would be great, those who want to live in the blue hives can do so, the rest of us can go to the red Galt's Gulch states and thrive. Although as someone else mentioned I also feel that the powers that be would definitely have to shut that down as it became more and more obvious. But hey, we can hope, right?

@Metalqueen "The norm for the vast majority of recorded history is NOT a stay at home mom and an off to work dad, it was life on farms where EVERYONE worked except the very young and the very old"

If we look at the last 500 generations, farming is pretty recent.

But the changes in the last four generations have gone exponential and I don't know what to call this age now, other than the "Age of Craze"!

At least, in the ancient hunter-gatherer civilization, the hunters hunted probably only animals.

Now, we are all game (hunted), hunted by a few Satan worshippers without religion or humanity.

Well to be fair when it was hunter/gatherer there wasn't much "staying at home"; you hunted or gathered because if you didn't you (and your young children) probably starved.

We can use the space here in Texas. Might be a good thing, if they leave. There are a lot of anti-abortion women in Texas. The people in the street are demons. Best they leave.

@Abelarlindsey: I think you are right on the head with the state laws. I think DC and West Virginia were the only States with legal abortion when Roe passed. I really doubt it will be totally illegal anywhere, but be limited in a lot of places. I have heard about extremes, where they are talking about killing babies. It will be time to break up this **** show, because I don't care to be associated with a government that allows that.

take their business to states where women are freer?
I don't foresee very many businesses doing that for one simple reason: There is a strong correlation between states that will allow women the freedom to kill their unborn children on demand at any point and economic factors such as tax rates, workplace union laws, and the overall cost of living, all of which has already caused many companies to move or expand toward red states.

Roe getting reversed might keep some of the most woke companies in the blue states where they already are (good!) but I don't think it will case many to move from red to blue. It just isn't an overriding concern to any business whose priority is anything but social activism.

Actually, 17 states (including my own, Washington State) had legalized abortion at the time Roe vs Wade was handed down. I don't think all 50 states would have legalized it like no-fault divorce. But I think a good 30-35 states would have made abortion legal, with varying restrictions, by the late 70's had Roe vs Wade never happened.

@Uwe

I prefer that "blue" people and businesses stay in "blue" states. I'm a red person living in a red enclave in the "blue" west side of the state (the east side is pure red). I want the red states not to be contaminated by blue people in case I have to move to a red state. Rather than fleeing to a red state, I prefer to break up our two states into red and blue areas.

Given the covid situation, particularly the vaxxes, abortion might disappear on it own regardless of Roe vs Wade:

That tweet about Pfizer vax pregnancies looks to be wrong. There were 270 pregnancies, but only the outcome of 32 were reported. Presumably the 238 unreported results were normal births without issue. Surely they should have confirmed regardless.

10-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage so the numbers seem normal.

The move from hunter/gatherer to agrarian societies pretty much enabled the recording of history. That is why I used that as a starting point for the point I wanted to make.

The same dynamic applies to hunter/gatherer societies, perhaps even more so. Everyone who can do so contributes. The old "men hunt and women gather" is mostly true as well, but there is enough folklore and mythology about female huntresses to understand there were exceptions to the rule. Whether due to some females have talent for the hunt or out of necessity we do not know.

The larger point is we are much more likely headed to the "everyone contributes to group survival"-including kids-than a domestic model from the last century. And the end 13 years of sitting in school as a holding pen for youth can't come soon enough...
