@dingle-- the children of our 'elites' have their hand in just about everything. The Kerry's are making sweet cash in UKR too. Pelosi's son, too.

Everyone keeps talking nukes. We cant stop their hypersonic weapons yet: how about just making a half-dozen or so major power transformers go away with precision conventional strikes and then peace terms of their in return for sweet, sweet PRC- made replacement units?

Otherwise, without refrigeration or fuel (unless the carbon infrastructure can run itself, which I doubt) its bye-bye most of the USA population. If we retaliate with nukes the Russians still have all of theirs AND they have civil defense AND they refresh their ABM systems on a regular basis.

Yeah, I wouldnt trust those systems either but they might.

Yep @Jduwaldt.

Or hit the Pentagon with one. Or the White House. Or the Rotunda while Congress is debating a bill.

Or, if they want to get sporty, Andrews or one of our carriers. Just one.

Conventional and make a hell of a mess; effectively-zero warning and literally nothing we can do to shoot it down. Then Putin asks "How many more would you like and oh by the way one right into Hoover Dam and everything west and south of Lake Mead is ****ed both on water and power. Get out of this conflict now, and we mean it. Your move."

One would think that destruction of anything on the continental United States will not even make the news; the US will strike back so friggin' quickly it'll make our collective heads spin.

This is sheer madness. I cannot get out of the city fast enough. My home and the home I am buying should both close on 5/12. Ar least a rural area with acreage (i.e., well and septic system, wood burning stove, green house, garden area, etc.) would allow for a chance of survival. These demented fools will be happy with nothing short of WWIII and the unleashing of nuclear Armageddon. I am astounded at the stupidity of the American people. God Help Us.

It's odds-on that WW3 has started. I also think it is odds-on that it will be less destructive than the last one, but it's always possible in war for things to get really out of control. When the Syrian civil war started, with all its factions and foreign troops I thought to myself how remarkably similar it all felt to the Spanish civil war preview of WW2. The two sides, Russia and its proxies vs America and its proxies were visible if one looked closely enough. China remains a wildcard in my opinion, they and the Russians have a complicated relationship, they share a border they have had multiple conflicts over along with a flip-flopping of who is the junior 'partner'. China may very well be eyeing the Russian far east for its own expansion.
I agree that at some point it is likely we see a direct Russian shoot down or sinking of a US asset. I think it will happen in, or close to, the direct theater of conflict, an intelligence gathering plane or ship near the Black sea perhaps. That's when things will get really interesting.

I reached out to my 2 US Senators a month ago. Crickets, not even an auto-reply/ form letter.
No one seems to appreciate the danger we are in. And now this Act passes.
We'll have to hope that Russia just hits military bases and assets abroad, and takes the incremental "Would you like to have some more of that?" approach.
The Russians probably have one of our destroyers or aircraft carriers in their sights anyway, to avenge the Moskva.
It seems that Russia bringing the pain is the only thing that will get through. And even then, I think we're in for it. Our leaders probably think war is the better option rather than having the world see us back down to Russia right on the heels of the Afghanistan embarrassment.
We'll need Putin to somehow let the West save face to prevent the worst outcome.

Meanwhile, in ****tard Nation...

We don't have hypersonics nor a defense against them, but we do have trans-kids, diversity, and equity.

So there is that.

The problem that we have is that everything has been burocratized in the US, Defense department, all other federal gov departments, judiciary, congress, big business, and so on. Notably the defence department when it changed from the war department has permanently defined itself to fail. The US has lost every war since the formation of the Defense department.

Burocracies by their very nature are designed to continue existence by failing. The moment that an agency succeeds, it ceases operation. As long as any agency fails it is assured of continued existence and growth. Beware the military industrial complex.

The US will lose WWIII unless it can shed its governmnent with its burocracy.

We, the people, need to win the war at home. This is the only war that matters because if this war is lost, all else is lost.

In fact, the US government has been conducting a foreign policy against US interests, because they are under the control of the US Corporations that have only been only using/abusing the US and people of the US.

Let us start with getting the US Corporations under our control.

Stop giving them control and your money!

If we cannot bear the temporary inconvenience of not using a smartphone, even for a day or week or a month, then even God cannot help us win!

Russia and Putin are not stupid. They have had every chance and reason to escalate and have not so far.

I am not saying that Russia will not eventually escalate but it is very plain that the strategy right now is to break up NATO. They do that with Gas, Fertilizer, Wheat, oil, etc.

Right now economically everything is just treading water. China is helping out Russia by shutting down for Covid. The supply lines will only get worse.

All Russia has to do is keep staying in what they and most of Europe consider to be the Russian part of Ukraine. Finish with NATO/ Ukraine in the East, and make no mistake the UAF in the DPR and LPR is NATO. NATO weapons, NATO Training, NATO communications, NATO real time Satellite info, NATO "volunteer Officers" who are active duty UK, US, CA, etc Finish with the East and take Odessa and link up to Transnistria.

Transnistria is the place I see as the probable place that the conflict escalates, probably this fall.

What happens this fall and winter will depend on Germany and France. I dont see how they can survive without Russian gas unless they open up their own gas fields. If they do that then yes, it will escalate as Russia will not have the energy advantage anymore.

Good grief.

Has the Ministry of Disinformation informed us yet that we have always been at war with Russia?

What a horrible path this administration is taking.

Putin is too ****ing smart to be goaded into doing anything he doesn't want to do.

He has said what he wants and why he wants it and so far I don't see where he has deviated from those stated goals.

While I agree that this lend/lease/ is monumentally stupid I have to believe that unless we are willing to go to the next step-full on declared war-nothing here will deter Putin and force him out of his general plan of action.

We effectively sank one of his flag ships. What did he do in response that we know of?

If he sank one of our flag ships what would we do in response?

The American people do not seem to be as stoic and purposefully as the Russians. The average Boobus-Americanus response to a sinking of one of our ships would be warmongering hysteria to support even further involvement and rash moves on our part.

No, I think Putin is just fine playing whack-a-mole for a while until he either has worn us and our allies down or until someone on our side takes his patience and stoicism as weakness.

We shall see.

If you are hitting the Hoover Dam, why not reroute the Mississippi while you are at it? Given the lack of infrastructure maintenance, The Mississippi might choose to just do it for us regardless one of these days. We keep relying on the hard work of those who came before.

Quote:
The mighty Mississippi River keeps on rollin' along its final 300 miles to the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleansbut unwillingly. There is a more attractive way to the Gulf150 miles shorter, and more than twice as steep. This path lies down the Atchafalaya River, which connects to the Mississippi at a point 45 miles north-northwest of Baton Rouge, 300 river miles from where the river empties into the Gulf of Mexico southeast of New Orleans.

One of the reasons the German U-Boats were so successful at sinking ships off the US coast was that we refused to blackout the city lights at night. All our ships were illuminated by the skylines, easily found, and sunk. One supposes not inconveniencing or scaring the average population took precedence, even back then.

Quote:
U-123s lookout saw the bright lights of the Coimbra bearing down on the submarine. The British tanker, like the Norness, transported oil to Britain. She made an easy target against the brightly lit coast. U-123 torpedoed the tanker, and within minutes the explosion sent a fireball 650 feet into the sky.

In other good news, we have sent so many Stingers and Javelins to the Ukes that we now do not have enough for ourselves, and cannot make more any time soon, either. We would never need them ourselves, would we? One wonders if part of the overall enemy plan is to further draw down all our military supply inventories. I would hate to be in Taiwan right now.

Seems like we'd know fairly rapidly if one of our big cities got sunshined. Major broadcasting stations are based in those, have far reaches into the hinterlands via cable channels.

Sudden offline broadcast news networks out of a big city would start the word of mouth network going rapidly, and it would show up in alt-media fairly quickly if not in major electronic media sources. Maybe even via ham radio if any operators left.

TPTB would want the general pop to know what evil Russia did so they could rally the gen pop to go fight over there to extent that would even be possible after such a hit or hits. And of course undergo any sacrifice necessary here to support that effort. food rationing, medical rationing, gas rationing, etc. Get margarine instead of butter (oops, one made out of petroleum, the other made by different methane emitters-decisions decisions). WWII revisited.

Some suspicions out there that Roosevelt had advance notice that Hawaii would be hit and let it happen as excuse to enter war against Japan and get support from the populace. History is known to rhyme.

And after the first major shipment gets blown up, does congress decide to authorize sending a military escort to protect the next one? Does Biden do it without congress? This can heat up real fast.

This is a chess game on a world scale. Russia vs Nato.
Ukraine is the chess board.
Russia made the first move, which was a pawn.
So far, it seems
Russia is still only using it's pawns.
As far as media reports on Russian losses, and retreats,
it is common for pawns to get sacrificed.
It also seems to me that Russia
is still in the developing stage of the game, and Nato, wanting the quick win,
is going for using more and more powerful chess pieces.

I am NOT for either side. I am neutral regarding this game.

I feel bad for the common man over in that country, and
I hope the whole world doesn't turn into the chessboard.

I'm thinking that Putin may use a hypersonic against a heavy arms shipment by sea once it reaches that region. While militarily-trategically a sound move, I cant see the Russians attacking a facility within our borders. At least not yet.

As far as the Mary Poppin singing Minister of Disinformation appointment, that she was previously involved with Ukraine says it is a loud signal from the admin to Zelinksky to "keep on the script or we can turn on you."
