Aquapura, I'm not sold on the 401K balance having any effect based on these numbers:

Ages 20-29
Average 401(k) balance: $13,200
Median 401(k) balance: $5,000

Ages 30-39
Average 401(k) balance: $46,200
Median 401(k) balance: $18,500

Ages 40-49
Average 401(k) balance: $111,100
Median 401(k) balance: $39,200

Ages 50-59
Average 401(k) balance: $188,000
Median 401(k) balance: $65,300

Ages 60-69
Average 401(k) balance: $212,600
Median 401(k) balance: $67,600

I more so notice prices going up in large percentages. One inconsequential example, that still pissed me off, was the price for a 4.5 oz back of my favorite chip went from $2 to $2.29. 15% increase.

We all know what happened to meat a while back.

McD's order from last week: 2 sausage mcmuffs and a hashbrown... $6.30ish. WTF!

Thanks for the chart Burke13

I will sum it up in one short word: INFLATION

Mises said inflation shows up first in the stock market. I'm seeing it in the price of some food. I always attempt to buy some things when the price is right and freeze them. Bacon and butter are 2 things. $3 to $3.50 are my extremes in bacon and $2.50 a pound for butter. Despite limited freezer space and the fact I don't use a lot of bacon, I added another 12 pounds to my supply. Costco had butter 4 pounds for $6.99, $1.75 per pound. 8 more pounds in the freezer. I have never seen Costco over roughly $10 for 4 pounds and I think it is still under that now. But, I had to buy some butter, because I forgot it on this trip. Over $5 a pound at HEB in San Angelo. Bacon is around $5. My quit price has always been $4.

People who buy and sell stocks always have the same amount of money on the sidelines. That is a fiction that varies only through expanded money supply filtering through the economy and margin debt. I suspect you judge the bubble by how much margin debt, in relation to money in accounts. Liquidation always requires cash from accounts. Expanding prices also give incentive for more debt and requires an expanding amount of money in accounts to handle the volume. The reverse is also true, which is why we see stocks reach bottoms, as margin debt is liquidated and eventually the amount of money will support the price.

I used to read Doug Noland religiously and I should start again. Within a month of the 2009 bottom, Noland had announced they had successfully reflated the economy, despite his doubts they could. He knew this by action in the stock market.

What makes the stock market a racket isn't values, but timing. Those who control the action of money pick the bottoms and load up. They have access to credit and cash. This is what Mises meant.

I want to talk about what you want and not want to do in preparing...

do not bother stocking up a ****ing freezer if they cut power it's useless and you're dead instantly...

Don't bother ****ing around buying gas generators, the charter of that motor means that you have something to protect most likely food it'll get you killed!

the hardest pill for folks to swallow is that mutt that you love so much you're going to have to whack the little bastard and I'll tell you why because it barks, also it requires food if you can feed that dog someone's going to notice that your dog is being well cared for that means you have food and when people are hungry oh yeah they're willing to eat a ****ing can of Alto if not the dog itself!

Furthermore for sanitation purposes if you're stuck in the city and you notice that your water pressure starts to go down you need to grab your **** and you need to go to a very remote spot...

and the reason being is because that is going to be a sanitation issue when you do not have water to be honest Creek water and river water is better than having zero water for sanitation purposes.....

also sanitation will be a huge problem throughout the cities and the reason being is because of garbage even in small towns...
Yeah trust me the world's going to smell a lot different coming up if this **** goes down, but that also means an influx of mice rats other assorted filthy characters did spread disease that alone could cause a comeback of the plague...

You're going to want to get the **** out of there!!

to hunt and fish your way through is not a bad idea at all however you want to do that as quietly as possible...

When hunting consider alternatives to the gun even something such as a slingshot perhaps a quiet high-powered bb or pellet gun... Trap whenever possible...

if you go shooting up the woods everyone's going to be more than aware that you're more than likely getting food and especially if you're not originally from that area the locals May shoot you because you're considered stealing their food supply!!

Truth of it is, is you are actually better off in a group of people then you would be playing lone Wolf card, the reason is for strategic purposes...
You cannot stay awake 24/7 365 this is not a movie, you cannot see a hundred and eighty degrees around you at all times so you're going to need people to cover points you're also going to have to guard in shifts!!

The only actual advantage that lone wolf has is speed you may be able to move quicker however you may also make more mistakes and get killed quicker!

When talking even in your house even in the basement you want to maintain low tones you do not want to announce the supplies that you have you do not want to announce did you need more food or that you're going to get more food which means if you have a woman that's chatty Cathy that never shuts the **** up then asks way too many questions and needs a detailed account of everything you are doing or they're going to follow you around like a ****ing moron you're going to have to sit her down and tell her to shut the **** up stop asking so many damn questions I know that sounds mean I know that totally sounds rude but you don't have time to explain you need to do more doing than talking... you ain't got time to give her a detailed account of the hunting trip you're about to embark on you just need to go get the food bring it back and be done with it!

Your children are probably going to notice the slight difference in your demeanor and or attitude in general, you do not need to become a complete *******, but if you're one of these mister softees you better turn that **** around right now because those children are going to have to actually follow directions that this next potential world coming up doesn't have timeouts and do overs!

If you own your home and you have the space and the ability to install things like a wood stove you had best do it however you also need to be extremely cautious about using it...

If you have a wife and kids or you yourself is one of these furnace Happy freaks...
but I'm going to tell you here right now put some ****ing clothes on when it's daytime morning noon till after dark you need to dress warm and you're going to have to use blankets I don't give a **** if you got to wear a coat in the house that you're only going to have a minimal fire in that stove and you know why?

You may have guessed you can serve firewood but that's not the reason..
the real reason is because in the daytime your smoke is more visible than it is at night so you want to have your big fires at night and heat your house up as much as you can possibly get it even if it's a little too hot and uncomfortable that way you can retain a lot of that heat during the day or the next day and yes I'm referring to mostly the dead of winter...
so what you might want to do is get up before sun up and throw a few logs and of a stove and let his burn up and then after the sun comes up open your damper wide open and let it burn is smokeless as possible and then turn the damper back down to maintain that bed of coals through the day and only throw a log in once in awhile...

There again any unwanted individuals coming down a road or through the woods they'll see that smoke and they're going to head right towards it if anything they're going to stand on the sidelines and case the joint for a while to determine what your habits are...

so that's another thing if you have a habit of loading your stove at 9 after a couple of days of doing that switch it up and do it at 8 maybe wait until 10:15 and you're going to have to just bounce around on your times never ever have a consistent schedule because you will be stalked!!

the most important carry a loaded gun on you at all times no matter what the task is...
you could be gathering firewood let the children do a lot of the work you stand by on watch via you were gone have your wife do so as well...

You could be sitting in the house reading a book make sure you have your gun by your side...

if you are one of these people who must open the ****ing curtains or blinds in the morning maybe you just opened it up for a little bit in the afternoon well don't do that anymore stop doing it right ****ing now....

You want to keep the interior of your house concealed as much as possible and you also don't let idiots hanging out next to your windows in terms of if you yourself or one of these I've got a glock out the window every time I get up to do something okay don't do that stop doing that if your loved ones are all about hanging out near the windows you tell them to get the **** away from there the same with the doors....

and whether the world goes to **** or not never ever leave your children unsupervised particularly outside or any considerable distance away from you!!

This is just a short comprehensive list trust me there's more strategic things that you can do!

Some commentary I read today.

It is simply not true that investors are ignoring the massive economic shock of the pandemic. The picture is being distorted by equities, and within that by a clutch of US tech stocks in the grip of a parabolic spike all too like the final phase of the dotcom bubble in 2000.

A rising tide ought to be lifting all boats. Yet swaths of the US stock market remain in distress. David Rosenberg from Gluskin Sheff says the sectoral tally is: auto stocks (-23pc), advertising (-34pc), energy and regional banks (-37pc), hotels (-43pc), and airlines (-55pc).

The parts of the US economy not under the control of Wall Street are being systematically destroyed.

Wall Street is doing well because they can look forward to wages dropping by 40 to 50 percent and foreclosing on most of the housing stock not already in their hands.

Wuhan flu was designed not only to overthrow President Trump but to see off what remained of American capitalism, with a view to replacing it with a corporate state where democracy was a cruel joke. Fascism with Chinese characteristics, and living standards to match for all but a few oligarchs.

That's why the stock market is doing well. Corporate CEOs aren't the ones about to lose their businesses and be physically removed from their homes by the Third World thugs sent to enforce the foreclosure notice.

They're just the ones who will make fortunes renting out homes back to us---provided we can somehow come up with two years' rent upfront and are willing to pay out of pocket for all repairs.

@Reformed
We're in the Tulsa area. Their city council is voting on a mask mandate this evening. I expect it to pass. Then I expect some of the surrounding towns will follow their lead.
Our dentist requires us to wear a mask so we have pushed back our appointments.
I plan to make another food/supplies run very soon, before a mandate happens here.
If it does, we may be shopping in other towns. Beyond that there are great local sources for meat, eggs and dairy (what more does a low-carber need anyway?), and online shopping.
Luckily, the owner of my hair salon does not submit to the BS. The next day after salons re-opened, I walked in and got my hair done exactly as before the plandemic. I think she would defy a mask mandate but then I'm getting ahead of myself. If need be, my stylist makes house calls.
I hope our appliances keep working. Inventory issues aside, last I knew some businesses would only deliver to your door. They would not come inside the home and install anything. Bad deal for older people who are no longer physically able to wrestle major appliances. We do have back-ups though so we could manage for some time.
Thankfully, the schools re-opening will not affect us personally. We will only be spectators to that mess.
Lastly, I will be fashioning one of my grandma's hand-crocheted doilies into a 'face covering' should push come to shove. All those openings should ensure I can breathe through it, so I'm certain the CDC would approve. For now.

@Chiff - Singapore THOUGHT this was going to be SARS (which killed 15% of the people who got it on that island.)

It wasn't. They fixed their infection control protocols in the hospitals with militant hand-washing, their transmission to health care workers went to zero, and their CFR is 0.057%.

That's not a fat-finger. It's under that of the seasonal flu.

North of 40,000 people have gotten it but nobody's dying of it.

We're killing people both in the US and other nations.

A virus isn't racist and they're not immune. The people who are dying here are dying because we're killing them.

I'm in the Davis Mountains right now. One of my chores out here and back home is to scan gun stores for ammo. 45 ACP and 9 mm are almost impossible in DFW. I found 100 rounds of 45 ACP reloads in San Angelo and Academy had 9 mm, limit 3 boxes. I don't have a 9 mm, but my brother in law does and the price was right. He informed me he had 1000 rounds and I wished him a happy birthday, which doesn't come until September.

One reason I am where I am right now, is I'm looking for an exit plan. Biden is talking Global Warming and the policy he and the left propose is genocidal. I suspect we are watching a global takedown of Western Civilization, in favor of genocidal nonsense. CV19 is the starting gun. Our news media might as well be PRAVDA and TASS, which may have been more honest. The first thing communists do in a revolt is take over the media.

I was told by a woman my last time out here that everyone carries, including her. Organized, BLM would not be much of a force, but Biden could send the army in and make short work of the people. I'm not worried about Biden, but who his running mate is. He claims he will nominate a black woman. Biden won't last until March 31st next year, so that is our vision of the future, should Trump lose. There isn't a major black Democrat that isn't left of Castro. The Democrat Party has been communist for 40 years or more, waiting patiently to convert the media and the universities. 30 years of political correctness has succeeded in making people who oppose them deplorable. The Constitution is an obstacle, but in the time of double speak, they will justify what they are doing.

Any major Green Energy program will result in mass starvation. Providing energy for a modern society is a constant race and to propose to shut off the major supplies of energy, not only subject us to falling behind in the race, but would defeat the aim of Green energy, in the first place.

The view out the window here doesn't even look real. This is Jeff Davis County, so named because of his role on establishing Ft. Davis as Secretary of War. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Lefties are already after the name. **** them. They are after the Texas Rangers as well, an institution that still stands as an elite law enforcement agency. They are after us. Trump is right when he says that.

I don't see how we don't have a civil war, unless the media changes or the people in general push back on the left. The burning of cities isn't a protest, it is a revolt. Lying in the media isn't a free press, it is a conspiracy, maybe not to bring in Communism, but its cousin fascism. The Bill of Rights stands between us and either and the 2nd amendment is the only protection we have.

I will be 65 in September. There are some hard decisions at this age, especially when you are a free market player in the economy facing a leftist future. Neither of these forces has much use for 65 year old males or females for that matter. Death is inevitable at my age and old age isn't a party anyhow. Dead is dead and it is going to happen soon enough. Living is another matter. Do I want to live under a totalitarian system and for that matter, would I even be allowed to live? Who do you think will be eliminated to lower health spending, to make the Green New Deal work?

There are a lot of genocidal bastards among the elite. Ted Turner stated the goal decades ago and Mr. save the world Gates has stated the need to eliminate 90% of the people on Earth. Under their definitions, I suggest they go first. They stand there and tell you what they are going to do. Register it in your mind. They are going to take your **** and they are probably going to take your life, all the while acting as if they aren't going to do either.

I'm looking at this as a Civil War moment and people need to wake up. The State owns your kids, despite the 13th amendment, which states there isn't any human property allowed. The State gets nothing they don't steal from people who work for a living or capital. They destroy capital, they destroy it all. They would run the economy, like they run the virus crisis. Like they are in the third grade. This may come down to whether you die from getting shot or from starvation.

Right now I am looking at the exit strategy. Where I live now, is the first line of defense, but a city full of California transplants. I have sisters and nieces, who probably wouldn't want to be in the area, should violence erupt. Where I am now, I look at as the last line of defense. I'm 150 miles from any city larger than 20,000 people, maybe 10,000 people, as the metropolis's are Pecos, Ft. Stockton and Alpine. Midland Odessa and El Paso are the closest cities of any size. They are 150 miles or more away. There is plenty of game, if all else fails.

Of course the other option is to leave the country. Without the USA, where do you go? Like him or not, what Reagan said about the USA stands. This is the last stand. Time for decision is now, if you haven't made up your mind. Hope isn't a strategy. **** could go downhill fast.

@Reformedhippy, in rural areas with less population, get your group and take elected seats on the sanitation district, town council, county commissioner, etc. Show up and own the control structure.
My experience is you will quickly find that most of the tough talkers, like Jeepguy who is more interested in calling people names than doing the hard work of showing up, just complain and are too scared to take an elected seat. And my experience is that an elected seat can enable more than you expect - I helped run FEMA out of my town because I had an elected seat.

@Invisible
"If the FED raises rates the market crashes."
When the Fed raises to slow "number go up" in the markets, those in negative interest rate areas (EU looking at you) will send a tsunami of investment cash in to US markets, causing the numbers to go up more. What are your thoughts?

This will end badly, and I know enough to not short it and to step back. Get off leverage.

In the meantime, Starbucks sent me an email that all stores will require face masks to enter. One less place for me to visit.

KD, I have been pushing the Singapore story everywhere I post. Last I looked, they had just short of 50,000 cases and 26 deaths. 26 deaths. Safer getting the virus than driving a car for a decade. I bot most of those 26 died early at that. 50 years of government interference has provided America with a garbage bureaucracy that serves someone besides the people. The feedlot bureaucracies are stacked with what you find in feedlots, ****. Take off the top and move up the next, you still have ****, maybe a little more moist, but **** all the same.

Think the MSM is talking about this? They will start talking about it when they decide it is time to attack Trump. I'm not sure what Trump could do, as the choices are another stack of turds. Cuomo killed 30,000 people, if you take his counts seriously. I think they are political fear mongering and made up. Also, likely a double dose, CV19 and the forgotten H1N1 flu epidemic.

I have decided you don't believe anything in the news about this virus. Masks are just a piece of the bull****, more for the purpose of installing a totalitarian government, where you just follow the rules, like the NAZI death camp workers.

There are a lot of good comments on this thread. Jeepguy wrote a detailed list that needs to be taken seriously. I don't want to be in the city, if the lights go off. Where I might go, a 1000 gallon propane tank might be a good idea, maybe 2 of them. 5 gallon gas cans, where you fill up the cans instead of the truck. Gas gets old, so a rotation has to be set up. And, a generator.

There are other things, like getting the stomach to kill, which I don't know if I have or for that matter most people. I'm aware this would be a take no prisoners situation, meaning you might have to kill females and teens. It will be that way, if they defeat your side as well.

We have much bigger problems than 2009. I remember reading quite a few tickers back then that pointed out if we did not address the fiscal spending situation, we were going to blow up, due to simple math. The Fed bought 10 years of fake growth in the economy and much more in terms of asset price inflation, but that all fell apart like a fart in the wind when COVID hit.

The rot from within has started to show up now. Burning cities, people taking $600/week checks instead of looking for a job, shortages of hard goods. As a society we're lying to ourselves on multiple levels. We deserve a fake Dow Jones rigged up like a marionette to dance whenever the Wall St. gang decides to make it dance.

Next step is giving everyone UBI and then we can sing this happy song:
