Let's face facts.

Trump tells you he's going to do "X".

And it looks like he might.

Right up until you go to kick the ball -- and then he pulls it away.

Every.

Single.

Time.

The latest is on trade.  Trump wants you to think jobs are coming back here to the US.  They're not.  He's perfectly happy to have your computer and cellphone (think: Apple, Samsung), along with your spying devices and e-Readers (Amazon Kindles and Echos, etc) made with slave-labor children in China.

In fact he wants them made there.  He likes slaves.  Especially those who will enslave themselves, and you do a good job of it.

The latest "tariff action" is just another example.  What did he just pull the ripcord on tariffing?  All the stuff made with those very slaves -- in China -- for sale to Americans, by so-called "American" companies.  The stock market roared in approval.

Oh, and this now means China is in charge of Trump's re-election.  Which I'm sure suits him just fine, right Mr. Puppet?  You looove sucking on Xi's schwantz, don't you?  Have another load, Mr. President; I always knew you were a Communist at heart.

What doesn't he like?  Slaves that get uppity and start pulling from the public trough.  Thus the recent action on immigration, which incidentally is the same action everyone has been expected to follow -- but certain "special slaves" were exempted.  Brown slaves, specifically.

That is, the law on immigration has always contained a "public charge" exemption; you cannot legally immigrate to the US if you are likely to be a public charge.  What is a "public charge"?  Someone who consumes government welfare services such as Medicaid, food stamps, Section 8 housing and similar.

This has routinely and universally been enforced against non-brown people.  A good friend of mine was naturalized a couple of years ago.  I went to her ceremony, and prior to it, gave her some help in preparing for the "final exam", if you will -- where the government goes through all of your submitted documentation and you take the citizenship examination.

She was required to demonstrate that at no time had she used public assistance -- not Medicaid, not food stamps, not housing assistance -- nothing.  She also had to present proof that she had filed and paid her taxes -- all of them.

She was white -- from Romania -- so of course the law applied to her.  If she had been brown?  According to all the so-called "advocates" threatening to sue -- that's racist!

The problem with someone that has a green card -- or gets naturalized -- is that employers can't abuse them.  They have to pay them prevailing wages as they can quit and go somewhere else.  They have to withhold Social Security, Medicare and income taxes and remit them.  They have to pay FUTA (unemployment), SUTA (state version of same; there are two), and other state and local levies.  They have to follow wage and hour laws, and except for legitimately exempt employees, must pay time and a half for all hours over 40 in a week.  And so on.

Such a person who is a public charge costs the tax payer money but doesn't benefit the employers who want to screw people.  Therefore said person must leave but those who come here illegally, and thus do benefit employers even though their households consume tax benefits, are allowed to stay.  The ~600 odd arrests in Mississippi resulted in roughly half being immediately released for "humanitarian" reasons.  Those half will immediately disappear and never show up for their hearings.  That's the math on this.

But that's ok because some other employer, somewhere else, can abuse said person.  This means its "ok"; see, that person is a slave and thus Trump loves them being here.

Just like he loves the slaves in China.

You have heard time and time again that Trump was going to fix this or that.  In truth he was never going to fix anything.  Ivanka is lobbying Congress to take away your guns.  You're not going to hear that reported, but she is doing it and she's doing it with Trump's approval.

Trump was going to fix the cost of medical care.  Sure he was.

Since 1984 the cost of medical care services according to the governmenhas risen to 518% (!!) of its former price.  If you believe that figure -- in other words, you don't believe it is at least twice that high, let me point out that new vehicles are claimed to be 46% more expensive than in 1984 (that is, an index of 146.)  May I point out that a Ford Mustang cost less than $7,000 in 1984, and a GMC 1500 pickup was about  $6,000?  Today that truck is ten times the price.  Go price the Mustang if you'd like.

Why the lie?

What the government calls "hedonic adjustment" is the reason for the disparity -- in other words the (government-mandated) ABS system makes the vehicle worth more, so despite cars going up in price by 1,000% only 46% of the increase counts.  Of course you pay the entire 1,000%.  The same is true for medicine; you can "see" better with an MRI so the fact that the real price increase is 5,000%, all of which you're forced to pay (there is no not-better medical care you can buy, just like you cannot buy a 1984-equipped GMC pickup!) and as a result the claimed "inflation numbers" are complete trash.

On purpose, of course, witness Trump screaming for "rate cuts" with the knowingly-false claim that there is "no inflation."  Uh huh; talk to the hand.

Never mind the medical and "dietary" industry intentionally making you sick in the first place.  Now that's a profitable business; poison someone and then offer them something that doesn't actually reverse the poison but does make it hurt a bit less.  All for a huge profit on both ends of the transaction, of course.  Oh, and if you're debilitated by being fat, sore and diabetic you'll have a hard time overthrowing the jackasses who did that to you should you ever wake the **** up.  How convenient.

Trump never intended to do anything about the screwing America takes in either vehicles or medical care.  Nor did he ever intend to do anything about either the illegal invaders or the H1b visa holders, both of which are butt****ing Americans.  One group screws all of the people in the nation on the left side of the bell curve for ability, education and intelligence and the other screws all the people on the right side.  That leaves nobody out except for the politicians who are insulated from it by exempting themselves from said laws, paying themselves whatever they want and, of course, the tiny percentage of Americans who manage to run large public companies all of whom make hundreds of millions or billions of dollars breaking laws that have been on the books for more than 100 years but the government will not enforce them.

Now you, on the other hand, if you should be so foolish as to have a bong on your kitchen table when the FBI comes knocking to ask about your friend that just shot up a nightspot, well, you're going to prison for 10 years because you bought a gun -- and that bong is proof you lied on the Form 4473.  That is a crime, by the way -- it just happens to be one they'll enforce because you're not a Fortune 500 CEO or a member of Congress.  If you happen to have a medical marijuana card they may not even wait for the knock on the door and the bong on the table -- I suspect the FBI and other spooks, due to all the data sharing between governments and private parties, already knows exactly who has both a medical weed card and has bought a gun.  When the time comes every one of those people is going to go to prison

Don't get all uppity now or that day can be today!

People know something is wrong in this regard.  Free-market capitalism may indeed be the best path to prosperity but there is no such thing today in the United States.  It was supposed to be protected by laws like 15 USC Chapter 1 which made colluding to screw you a federal felony, equally serious to buying that gun while you have a bong on the kitchen table.  Indeed the penalty is the same; 10 years in the slam-slam.  Yet not one federal criminal charge has been laid against the pharmaceutical industry which has clearly, as just one example, "divided up" the market for insulin in the United States resulting in the current situation where you can buy it over the counter in Windsor, Canada for one tenth the price charged in Detroit, Michigan -- stores that are at a distance of approximately one mile from each other.

Of course it's technically illegal for you to cross said border and do that, but Customs looks the other way.  Maybe.  What's your answer to "Do you have anything to declare?"  A lie, I remind you, is a federal offense and you get that nice 5 years in the slam-slam.  The truth (e.g. "10 vials of insulin!") may get you waved through with a wink and a nod.  Maybe.  If it does get you waved through for how long will it get you waved through and not arrested?  Do you have Bernie Sanders (e.g. your get out of jail free card) with you this time?

Further, if I go over to Windsor and buy up a suitcase full of the stuff intending to put a stop to this bullcrap by selling it to diabetics in the United States -- the very definition of free-market capitalism -- I will go to prison.  Indeed, I'll probably get the same 10 years I'd get if I had that bong on my kitchen counter with a nice pistol sitting next to it.

The people of this nation have repeatedly fell for the Lucy act from both sides of the aisle.  Obama did it with Obamacare through the infamous statement that "if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor."  That was a lie.  When it was proved to be a lie nobody was hanged for it, politically or otherwise.  The Republicans passed "repeal" of Obamacare more times than I can count on my fingers and toes, knowing he'd veto it.  The minute Trump ascended to the White House they couldn't manage to pass a single vote on the exact same bill despite having the majority in both houses of Congress.  That charade went on for two years yet once again, nobody was hanged for it, politically or otherwise.

I remind you that Trump had no less than three bullet points on his campaign web site dealing with medical monopolists.  They were imperfect but would certainly have helped.  They disappeared on the night of the election and have never seen the light of day since.

Trump promised to slam the door on illegal invaders and deport all of them, starting on his first day in office.  He has not done so.  He has in fact not done one thing to do so, including mandating 100% E-Verify, which he could do by Executive Order for anyone in the supply chain to any federal agency or any entity receiving federal funding.  Doing so would essentially slam the door on all of this crap because there is not one food or construction company that would be willing to accept being excluded from, for example, school lunches and school construction -- both of which receive federal funds.  Nor would any food supplier be willing to slam their own fingers on being able to have their products bought with EBT cards -- again, funded by the federal government.

Yet.... he's done nothing.

Trump also promised to slam the door on the H1b abuse.  He has not.

Trump has done a lot of screaming about the "witch hunt" yet he hasn't issued a single directive to run to the ground all of the illegal actions of the last administration including running guns to Mexican drug lords, keeping classified information on a server in Hillary's basement nor the facially-corrupt transactions she engaged in while in and after leaving the State Department, including but not limited to Uranium One.

Trump cares about one thing and one thing only: That the billionaires keep screwing you, and you can keep score on their progress in doing so via the stock market.  Oh by the way, the people who screwed you in the Uranium One transaction are billionaires -- well, at least 100 millionaires.  That makes it all ok, you see.

And that leads me to the other trope: You too can ride that train.

No you can't.

You don't have enough economic surplus to make the math work.  It's not possible.

But you can, and have, let Lucy hold that football yet another time by absorbing that trope and, once again, failing to hang any of the responsible parties -- politically or otherwise.

You're Charlie Brown, America.

Wear THAT hat with pride.

Back in the halcyon days of the dot-com 1990's I remember my neighbor, who worked a factory job, crowing about how is "emerging market/global growth" mutual fund in his 401k was performing. Up double digits that year alone. I asked him if he had made enough on that one to retire and of course he said no. I told him that that was too bad, because the money going into those funds was building brand new factories in China and Vietnam and he was probably helping to fund the destruction of his own job. He wasn't amused. And a couple years later the predictable happened.

Don't forget H2A visas. Big Ag brings in thousands of seasonal workers from other countries.

From age 6 to 18 I worked summers in the berry fields of western WA. Those jobs are no longer available to American kids who are willing to work their ass off to save money.

****, they can hardly even get an entry job serving fast food: adults who can't get better employment or seniors that need income have been taking those.

Yesterdays 400 point loss is exactly why Trump bent over and walked away his tariffs. He thinks that the markets will save his reelection but as soon as this red flag BS hits, he is completely toast. I don't even think it matters anymore because so many people are so easily swayed about the smallest things. After we have a few more staged shootings, then that will put a number of nails in Trumps coffin. If he thinks that jacking the markets today on nothing but BS will keep it in a uptrend, he is sorely mistaken. The real economy is rolling over like an elephant on a flea. Product demand is cratering right now and this tariff issue is a complete non starter. He is only interested in protecting his own interests along with those of his masters on wall street.
Karl's comments on slaves is more true today then ever before. Our taxation system, medical system, education system and welfare system makes sure that most folks will never be able to dig themselves out of the hole. We can work harder and longer, but the costs keep rising faster then wages. This seems like it is completely orchestrated to keep people down.

Yep.

By end of year odds are near 100% I'm done. I've run the math, I was intending to downsize anyway, and I'd rather run, drink beer, maybe jump out of a few planes here and there (having packed MY OWN chute, thank you very little) and spend some time with absolutely not one other ****ing 2-legged animal anywhere near me.

There's just no incentive left to do otherwise.

Somewhat splitting hairs here, but I would argue that the uninvited brown people are not slaves (Yet) however when this rolls over, they will quickly, easily except their fate. And do so more willingly than Americans who have been lied to for 2 generations now.

They are currently the uninvited guests who have been ushered to the head of the table, to eat the choicest foods. Foods that we paid for we prepared and we set out. And we allow it.

We are willingly making ourselves their slaves, by providing everything our overlords demand. We even willing place ourselves into debt, so the uninvited guests get more. We want to show our overlords we are good so we don't call them out and except more debt.

For now, the uninvited guests are not the slaves, as they can leave at any point they desire. We continue to do the bidding of our overlords and that means giving everything to the uninvited guest.

Once we have been made too fat, too dumb, too weak and to indebted to fight back the overlords will take away the uninvited guest privileges and they will except it.

Mangymutt: Just my 2 cents...I disagree that the "brown" people will accept losing their un-earned privileges. They unfortunately will revolt because the left side of the bell curve is brain-washed into thinking that they are entitled to what they want, not what they produce.

And I totally agree with Karl's statement that obth the left and right side of the bell curve (essentially everyone other than the privileged Congresscritters and top CEOs) are totally screwed. I'm in LA and lawyers here complain that they're not earning enough to keep up, so you can only imagine how lower wage earners are able to get by. My guess is that they're stacking several people in one small house, but even that has its limits.

I have immigrated in the US from Eastern Europe. It was 1999 when I got by mail forms and papers to fill before I can schedule an interview in the embassy of the US in my birth country.

The most important required documents were:

1)proof of all vaccinations,

2)proof that I do not have tuberculosis (those were issued by just one hospital, by just one unit in that hospital, that was trusted by the US government) and a

3)proof that I have a diploma from a high school or higher educational institution

4)proof of a bank account showing enough money, that will allow me to sustain myself for at least 3 months (I cheated this one requirement because everyone was so poor in my homeland at that time. I opened an account and borrowed $6,000 for a month putting my parents' house as collateral, just to show it on the interview. Sure they asked me why was this account opened just a few days before the interview and I said that I just sold all my possessions, so nothing holds me back and I am ready to go to America)

4)proof in the form of a letter, that I am going to be 'sponsored' by a person(guarantor) already living in the US. The letter had to be signed by them and notarially stamped and had to state, that they will help me find work, show me where to go and learn the language, and if for reason or in any way I would have become a burden to the American society, and it is determined it was their failure, the guarantor will be responsible to pay back to the US government all expenses incurred on my behalf by the taxpayers.

And all that just to schedule an interview and be considered as a prospective immigrant.

By the way, the INS agents actually called and interviewed my guarantor - asking him how we know each other, how long we know one another, has he received any money to be a guarantor and all kind of personal questions to be sure we are not scamming them.

I got 2 fundraising letters today, one from the RNC and one from the Illinois State GOP. I immediately shredded the one from the RNC, and will demand that the Illinois GOP take me off of their mailing list.

The state letter was packed with lies. They claimed to be against our idiot governor's tax increases, but I know for a fact that my state senator, my state rep, and the rep from the district just to the west of me, all Republicans, voted for the huge motor fuel tax increase, and for a raise for themselves. This after the three of them stated at a local Town Hall meeting that they would never vote for this fiasco.

Both political parties in this doomed, insolvent state have contributed to the current fiscal problems.

The same thing is true of our President. He has not made good on a single one of his campaign promises, and when I mention this obvious fact, the True Believers try to convince me that the Democrats are even worse.
