You caved.

You will not only never get your wall, you also won't get any meaningful security or illegal invader reducing changes either.

No E-Verify.

No requirements that illegal invaders, including DREAMers, comply with any of the requirements of legal immigrants (e.g. sponsorship to prevent them from becoming a public charge, full proof of tax compliance prior to naturalization, etc.)

In short you gave up.

The invaders are here and will remain -- and continue to come.

The budget drain will continue, and accelerate, especially in the medical realm.

Medicare will run out of funds in 2024 at the latest if not sooner.

You won't be re-elected, thus you probably won't be President when it happens.

But, you and Kushner, and maybe others, will be indicted within days of inauguration in 2020 when you are forced to leave office.

You'll get to watch the implosion from a prison cell.

That works for me.

Trump had two years when the GOP controlled both houses of Congress. Why didn't he fund the wall then? He had Congress, and could claim a fresh popular mandate to do it. Why did he wait until the Dems took the House before pressing this issue?

Karl, perhaps you based your comments on the pre-speech Drudge headlines or from elsewhere?

I was listening to it live while working, so I may not have absorbed every word or point Trump made, but did he actually back down on anything or change policy this morning?

What I thought I heard was "Ok, you wanted Big Stupid Government reopened to talk about border security, so talk..... you have three weeks."

I thought he was about to cave too, but in doubt that's what happened. I'd love to shove a wall up Stretch Pelosi's barack, sideways, but that's why I wouldn't make it as a politician or diplomat - I tend to leap to squashing moronic *******s rather than talking to them.

I think the biggest problem now would be - how will Trump be able to shut it down again in three weeks if the 'Rats remain obstinately moronic? I could write their kvetching gasbagging in advance, right now.

So much for the great negotiator.

Karl was correct all along - he never intended to fix anything. Just pandering to his base which he just lost.

It wouldn't surprise me if he decided not to run for reelection today - not that we will ever know.

One has to look on the bright side though. In the next election when the NSAAP (National Socialist American Workers Party) takes over, all debts will be canceled and everything will be FREE! My foolish in-laws are asian and spent years getting their green cards so they can come back and forth to the US legally. They could have just gotten on a plane and disappeared into the woodwork in a sanctuary city or state. Their kids give 15% of their pay (their kids are highly educated and earn beaucoup) to their parents as their only retirement plan (many asian families do this). I have reached the point where I say F**k-it and am talking to my wife about her and her siblings just stopping their payments and since they have no other income and/or assets putting them on public assistance. Perhaps even unearned income credit? Sounds like a great plan.

Trump WON'T "shut down" the fed.gov in three weeks. I'll even go farther and say that what we're gonna get is some half-assed "compromise" which WILL include amnesty and an expanded H1-B visa program.

Figure 12-18 months from now this, and the healthcare cluster f@##, blows us out of the water.

I heard the same comments as ptjim. Caught the first 5 minutes of the Hannity show on the radio after I read your column. Sounded to me like gov workers get their back pay, and the House and Senate have 3 weeks to get their act together on funding the wall, or it is back to government shutdown. That is what I got from what I heard, other than a lot of flowery language about how wonderful and patriotic federal workers are, making such a sacrifice for our nation. About threw up at that point. Cannot seem to find the full text of the speech online anywhere.

Id call him a dumbass for caving but that would imply he ever intended to follow thru on any of his promises. Hes just another politician pandering to his base while basking in the fame.

His only chance at a 2nd term would be to go nuclear.... prosecute the law breakers, enforce 15 USC 1, jail Hillary and her whole gang, fire Mueller, build the wall with the military, expose all of Obamas dirty secrets etc etc. He wont because he never intended to drain the swamp as he was fond of saying.

I must say today with Liz Warren's wealth confiscation, she put that slut AOC in her place. 70% Income tax is for amateurs. Go for the wealth. Watch them scatter to the winds.
NOTICE: US is no longer a safe haven for assets of any kind. I will, as a conservative, push this ****er over the cliff to end it once and for all.

My parents were professional labor negotiators. Here is what my dad taught me when I was still a teenager:

"In any negotiation, the party that cares the most about the outcome loses." (assuming some semblance of parity in bargaining power.)

Think it through. It's true.

Reagan/Gorbachev - The USSR was a third world ****hole with a capable nuclear arsenal. That is what was holy to the USSR. Reagan threatened it with SDI. Gorbachev offered RR everything at Reykjavik, if only he would drop SDI. RR caught an early flight back to DC and left Gorbachev standing with his mouth wide open.

Dems/Republicans - The GOP wants to be loved and seen as good people. The Dems control the MSM, and threaten their PR.

I didn't write a book on deals and negotiating. I watched my parents do it for a generation, and I've been involved in organized labor for the past 20 years. I will say that the above maxim is absolutely, 100% true.

In my example, when negotiating with the airlines, we know that operational control is their most coveted item. They know the ongoing viability of the airline is ours. Guess who wins? This is EXACTLY why the airlines all ran through BK last decade, yet none went out of business.

We had a string of union presidents that all wanted to be reasonable and "work with the company." All of them, save one, presided over major gives to the company. The one that didn't was thought by most (including almost everyone inside the union), as being absolutely f-ing bat**** crazy. Years later, I interviewed him and asked him directly. He said it was part of the plan. We didn't gain, but for three years, we didn't lose.

Where did Trump ever have Chuck and Nan by the balls? It was just about to get interesting with the ATC system starting to crack. I guess DJT valued it more than his opposition. That isn't going to work. You need to be seen as more nuts than your opponents. I know it sounds childish, but after watching negotiations on every scale from global thermonuclear warfare to who picks up the kids after work, the concept is rock solid.

If you are going up against Pelosi and Schumer, as your very first endeavor, and at all costs, find out what is holy to them and put it at risk. Absent that, you are going to lose.

He caved.

But it never mattered anyways because $5 Billion for 200 miles of 'Wall' was just a total JOKE all along. Especially when the real solutions to illegal immigration revolve around fleets of school buses and putting anyone who hires an illegal for cheap roofing and lawn care in jail for a few months.

None of that EVER gets considered.

Just like NONE of the REAL solutions to a multitude of problems we face EVER gets considered.

You get two years of neener neener neener from Don & Nancy and nothing gets done anywhere while this whole PortaPotty of a country slides down the tubes.

And 2020 ?

Exponential curves gonna exponentiate.

Looking from outside the US, it makes no sense at all. China is growing more assertive by the day. Russians were able to "stand their ground" in Syria and are sending mercenaries to Venezuela defying America in a place (South America) that was always under the US diplomatic influence. Internally the US is running an astronomical deficit that threats both dollar dominance and internal stability. The involved parties have access to top notch intelligence information. They cannot ignore this.

That comedy of "I want my wall", "no, and I don't invite you to my home", "OK I don't let you borrow my plane" is ridiculous. There must be something unspeakable being at stake here.

It is hard to rationalize that the world superpower is in the hands of such childish leaders (Donald and Nancy).

If he caved or not, is difficult to tell. But I want to believe that at least he caved in something really important. Not just a wall. It cannot be.

Taking into account what is going on in the world and America, if the top leaders get entangled in such puerile argument, then not only America, but the world is f***d and we should prepare our kids for the Chinese age (they seem to be the adults in the world now)

The only remotely viable reason (and it really isn't) I can think of for Trump's caving is that he was told that there was going to be a veto-proof majority vote in the house and senate coming shortly. Maybe that's what the meeting between Pence and some GOP senators earlier was about.

No matter. I'd have made the bastards override my veto.
