I've got two machines with Intel chips:

* Dell Latitude 2120 laptop purchased new mid 2015

* Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop machine salvaged from i3detroit's Graveyard about a year ago.

Either of them have this issue? (or any other for that matter)

Curious, to what extent can this issue be mitigated by using a dedicated server instead of a VPS?

A dedicated server would at least avoid the possibility of another VPS on the same physical box getting access to the hypervisor and using that to access other VPS's, right?

(I agree that physical control over the hardware is optimal, so this is directed to use cases where this isn't viable.)

If it has nothing running on it from third parties (that is, it's your computer, nobody is on it that is untrusted with the root password, and it runs your apps only) it's probably reasonably safe from this.
