Been at least a week, I think, maybe two.

I've toyed with cashing out my IRA, but I'm only sitting in Money market funds. Honestly it's worth the gamble for me to just leave it alone. Either it'll weather the coming storm or it won't. I have 20+ years to get my retirement house in order - I just need to worry about the next 5.

I'm leaning towards moving my 401k, traditional IRA, and HSA into money market. I feel a little bit like Michael Burry...I know what the right move is, I'd just hate to make that move two years two early. I suppose too early is better than too late.

How do you think I feel, Marquiri? I made this move in 2011. Have a look where the market has gone since then. I left all that on the table.

But you know what? I sleep like a ****ing baby. :-D

No doubt that too early is better than too late. I'm in better shape than most that I know. I have no debt, as my house and car are paid for.

I too missed the runup. Got out in '04.

i'm 90% cash , bought a little mining (CDE and BTU) on their way down on premise there's intrinsic value in the ground and their machinery to extract it.. oh well so it goes.
IRA will last over 20 years at 0% interest and present drawdown rate. That should outlast me. We downsized to a small house in a very rural area. I don't miss urban frenzy one bit.

Other folks have said it - get debt free and stay there.
Dave Ramsey says car payments are the #1 robber of wealth. Learn to fix your own car. The $49 code reader from Harbor Freight($19 from Tractor Supply) will tell you what it needs, but you need to buy the shop manual to find where they hide the doggone sensors.
I drive $2000 cars because they last me half as long as $30,000 cars.
Four years and 60 thousand miles ago i put new belts, water pump, alternator and changed transmission fluid in an 02 Escort i'd just bought. Cost me around $300 and a couple days effort. Just got back from Denver in it, 2000 mile round trip 34 mpg runs like a brand new one.
It has a quaint cassette deck and every thrift shop is full of fifty cent cassettes. We crossed Kansas and Missouri on Patsy Cline, Frankie Lane, Canadian Brass, Anita Bryant, Zamfir, 'Hooked on Classics I-III', Bobby Darin, Bluegrass, and Buddy Holly from a Denver Goodwill store .

Other thing is get yourself healthy. I cut out carbs, dropped almost 30 pounds , walk every day. Cholesterol readings are doing better and i have lots more energy. The trip to Denver was to get two heart arteries opened back up by a specialist out there. So I think i'm set on all fronts now for ten more years which at age 70 is a mighty good feeling.

I too sleep well now.

American politics as a system has ceased to function, because the system has gone from representing people to representing money. And that is something that can only go well as long as the people have at least some of that money. - Automatic Earth 3/17/2010
